Mon - 8-4
Tues - 8-5
Wed - 9-4
Thur - 8-5
Fri - 8-11 for tests only, no official class.

Fridays are reserved for tests. We only have one test each week (excluding the rare elective exam).

😍 Hearing this was a highlight of my visit there.

:xf: KSU likes me back!

We were in class 8-3 most days at the beginning of the semester but now that Cell bio is done we get out at 2 some days. Plus lab times for Histo are outside of the regularly scheduled day once a week. Friday we usually have 1-2 classes, but a lot of times, that's when Histo lab is for 2 hours. Overall Friday is a short day though.

Our exams are spread throughout. I really don't like the exam schedule because usually we're in class from 8-12 and then have our exam at 2-5 in the afternoon. I'd much prefer to have them in the morning and get them over with.

I am glad we don't just have exams on Fridays. Going to school all week is draining and I think I do better on Monday exams coming in fresh and ready to go (well plus I naturally like Mondays best because I've made it through another weekend- I am a freak out and study all weekend type and then do nothing during the week type 😳- not good for Friday exams).

At Illinois we are just finishing up our rotations where you can easily log an 11 hour day depending on what rotation you are on. We are starting courses on the 22nd, and then our classes will begin either at 8 or 9 (depending on the day) and end at 4pm for the required cousrses. Electives take place after that, I am in the later elective so I will be at school until 6pm.

Switching gears here, but things that suck: suddenly being a below-average student.

This is the first time in my life this has happened to me. Most of me doesn't care because I really do love what I'm doing (you may shoot me for saying this if you feel so inclined 😉 ) and I will be a great doctor regardless, but it's damn hard to switch from gunning it for 9 years to accepting C's!

Fell asleep while studying immunology, midterm is tomorrow. This has been an exceptionally rough week outside of school and I'm at the point where I just want to pass my midterms and move on. After 9:30am tomorrow 3 more to go; I can do this :xf:

Just try to do your own thing and do your best, it doesn't matter what everyone else is doing. That's so much easier to say when there is a subject that you've found that you're above average in (just found mine and it's Pathology which is quite unexpected).

2 and a half hours til Histo midterm and I'm still avoiding it 🙁. Better get to studying, definitely am not going to be above average on this one, average would make my day!

Just keep plugging along, hopefully you'll find that class that makes you feel like you're awesome! I wish mine could be Anatomy, I love anatomy and give it everything I have, but it doesn't seem to pay off, but oh well, at least there is something I did significantly better than average in 🙂. You'll find your class that gives you hope too. You gotta remember there are some that literally spend every waking moment studying too. I study a ton, more than most, but during lunch I like to just chill and hang out with friends, and I don't study a whole lot during the week, I do my studying on the weekend. There are those that study during the 10 minute breaks, go to the library at lunch, and stay in the library like until they close each day I think! Then they go home and study some more. I need breaks from studying for some of my day and overall, I'm not that serious, I like to laugh and have fun even if it's school. I can't be like the serious sit quietly and listen all day types.

Midterms are done :soexcited:. Heading home for the weekend 😀, studying anatomy 🙂.

Histo definitely could have gone better, but I know I passed (unless I screwed up the scantron or something like that) and it went better than expected. Lesson learned is don't avoid classes you don't like, suck it up and deal with it early instead of waiting til the week of the midterm.

I have been VERY guilty of this in the past. Now I force myself to keep up with classes I dont like by relistening to lectures ASAP (because when I dont like the class I am more likely to zone out in lecture) and trying to do at least 30min of that class every day. Right now, it's therio for me. I LOVE the material, but have heard so many horror stories from the current fourth years that I feel the need to stay motivated lol. Which is why I am currently studying therio (exam in 2 weeks) instead of toxicology (Exam Monday.) Oops.

Anybody else already feel a little burnt out...I seem to have lost my motivation. I'm sure it's just because we finished midterms but I just can't get myself to focus. Doesn't help that I'm still sick either.

Yes. I have an immunology essay due on November 1st that I have yet to even start... I swore to myself that I would do some of the research this afternoon and I didn't. I just can't focus and when I do try to study I instantly feel overwhelmed. I am hoping that I can get some magical motivation this weekend because I really need to get my rear in gear.

I'm tired a lot. I study a ton and when it comes to an exam, I don't even think of it as one because I am just so used to it. It's just so routine. Study for days, take an exam, study, exam, study exam. I don't even worry about my performance anymore, I just want to take it and get it done so I can study for the next one.

This helped me in the past so it might help you: set a small goal for yourself and plan out your study time. So for your essay, plan about 1 hour for research and reading and when you finish it, reward yourself with something relaxing, like listening to music for 10 mins, or coloring or something that relaxes you. Then continue forth with other studying for other classes or exams, whatever. Make goals to get through one or two lectures then stop. It helped me in the past and I usually take my breaks stretching or working on point control for fencing.

You can do this DVMD!

Thanks for that. =)

There isn't a group of people in this world that I would prefer to be below-average with, it's just an adjustment is all (mostly for my ego, and she can stand to take a hit 😉 ). And to be honest, I really don't spend nearly as much time studying as I could be - but I also have the brand-new hubby and the puppy at home 😍 .

YAY. Tell us what it's like to be freeeeee.

Physiology midterm on Monday. This is how I feel about physiology :barf:

Freedom is always elusive, but I am enjoying some freedom spending the weekend at home. I'm 75 pages behind in Anatomy and 3 lectures behind in Pathology (in which we covered the clotting cascade and all the factors that I really should memorize soon so lecture makes sense again). Freedom is relative, but I'm enjoying taking somewhat of a break. I usually spend my weekends studying just about non-stop and wondering how I'll get everything done, but this weekend I really didn't set any goals for myself studywise, so I'm just doing what I feel like (which so far hasn't been much lol).

orca i totally feel the same way. i haven't even started catching up on biochem yet and i have 2 lectures to listen to for that, 2 lectures for histo, 1 for dev bio........but instead i'm taking the day off and going to NYC to see my family.

i am EXHAUSTED after 6 exams in the last 4 weeks it's really hard to be motivated to study for something else again. i'm really tired all the time.

Oh girl, two words. So. Exhausted.

Our first round of midterms was last week of September and now we're on our second. And I haven't yet recovered from the first. My second major anatomy test (we only have 3 in total) is this Friday and that has finally lit a fire under my pants but, Jesus. Just the thought of embryology on Monday, anatomy on Friday, cell physiology the next Monday, and microanatomy the following Monday is daunting. They say 'pace yourself or get burnt out' but I have no idea how. I burnt out so incredibly hard after round one and shortly after round two is finals. I don't want to make the same mistake but I don't know what the alternative is.

I'm really enjoying school but the realization that this is just the stress level (or higher) I'm living with for four years is finally sinking in.

Don't forget to do some non-school stuff, too. That can be a big contributor to burn out. I know it feels like you need to be studying all of your waking hours right now, but I promise it's worth the extra time to watch a TV show or do a yoga class or whatever once a week (or more).

QTF. And get adequate sleep. Cramming all night probably won't do you much good if your brain is too tired to remember anything. I'm also a big fan of semi-school stuff. Vet med stuff that you're not being graded on. I don't know about other schools but we have a ton of clubs that give you opportunities to do some really cool stuff. Example: This morning I gave oral medication to an injured pigeon and fed and held a harbour seal while he was being cleaned. Last year I did a joint injections lab on a cadaver leg that taught me way more about equine limb anatomy then hours of studying ever would have.

This is why I hate the way anatomy is taught... the whole thing could be structured in such a memorable, clinically valid way and they just don't do it that way. Super frustrating to me.

I'm back to studying... two tests and a quiz next week. I didn't want this break to ever end. 🙁

Monday starts our Second round of tests after a very short break. Anatomy test is on Friday and while I feel better about this one than I did at this time before the last one, I'm still worried. Muscles and nerves aren't my strong point.

I'm tired all the time, and constantly frustrated about the amount of work I am doing in comparison to the work I should be doing.

I'm going to the UTK vs. Bama game today... It was an internal struggle when I was trying to decide, because I really need to study. But, then I just couldn't turn down the sky box with free food and booze.

I have some good mnemonics for the muscles of the antebrachium, if you are at all interested, just shoot me a PM.

With that said, our next exam isn't until the week of November 26th, we have the immunology essay due on November 1st but then it is just studying and learning until the end of November.

Yeah...I might have like 10 lectures to listen to...

Attempting to do research for this paper but finding articles that adequately describe the pathogen:host interactions that lead to abortion is proving to be more difficult than I had originally thought it would be. Most of the articles I am finding are very specific and focused and not quite that broad-minded... :bang:

Third round of exams coming up for us. I have phys tomorrow 🙂barf🙂, which I can't seem to find the motivation to look at, then histo next Monday, anatomy next Friday and in that same week I have a SOAP due, a phys presentation and an immuno report. Oh and I'm on husbandry rotation...not a fun set of two weeks.

Immunology midterm in an hour... The day after my weekend with the BF. Should go well. 🙄

Today's our first day of classes. AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!

Physiology midterm in less than 2 hours :scared: Ready to get this over with!

Microanatomy test in an hour!

oh... my phone tried to auto correct microanatomy to cockfighting... :what:

Not sure how that just happened, but I spanked that midterm

Just signed up for a respiratory procedures wetlab, fingers crossed I did it quick enough! Tracheostomy, transtracheal wash, thoracocentesis and chest tube placement, eeeh.

Woops, not sure how this got on this thread. Bumped to RANT, where it was supposed to be! 🙂

Average performance on Histo, but that makes me soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy! I did better than I had expected, not much better, but I am far from failing so I'm happy 😀.

I am getting tired of all the complaining already. It is one thing if someone asks you how you are and you respond that you are a little tired, but the outward complaining is getting annoying. I know you are tired, exhausted, and sick of studying. But so is everyone else. We are all in this together. It is not like only some of us have to study, while everyone else is at home getting 14 hours of sleep at night. The negativity is just overwhelming me right now.

🙁 🙁 🙁

I can't wait to go home in 4 weeks for Thanksgiving. We are more than halfway through the semester right now. Huge histo exam tomorrow and neuro take-home exam handed out Thursday and due Monday. Histo lab exam and AnSci exam next week. Our ethics class will be over in two weeks and our final paper for it is due mid November. The end of the semester is in sight!
I haven't really had time for much outside of school. I haven't seen my best friend in 5 weeks and she keeps asking me when we'll hang out again- and I don't know. It sucks. But, I'm constantly busy. I got a job as an ER radiology assistant after hours and can pick and choose when I want to work. My hamster is having issues (hair loss, confirmed demodex, possible Cushing's) which is making me stressed, worried, and causing me to toss and turn at night. Oh, and I really REALLY miss my boyfriend.
🙁😡😕😴:scared:👎 about sums it up.

We lost our first student on Friday, before we even had real classes...

yeah this happened to us to, right after orientation. we only realized because one of the girls in histo ended up not having a lab partner.

btw, i'm getting really tired of trying to understand hemoglobin!!!

I think we lost one too cuz we now have an odd number of students when we should of had an even number.

And if it makes you feel better, I got so freakin confused on the hemodynamics lecture today...capsular pressure = 😕:scared:😱
