Class of 2016....how ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is me realizing that I will be failing this next exam:

Still only on pathology, don't understand the profs notes for the remodelling phase of wound repair so I am doing this:

Still have to go through immunology, inflammation, parasitology, bacteriology, oh we start virology next week too...

And this is what I want to do...

It's too warm in the lecture room and I'm starting to freak out.
One it's making me sleepy and since I barely slept last night, that's kind of a problem
And heat just makes me super uncomfortable. It makes me get super antsy and anxious and I kind of feel like throwing something...yeah, I'm weird.

Class dressed as where's Waldo today. Pics up for a few.
*poof*

Another incredible day up here in Cali. Up late last night partying, so was pleased to get through a few quick lectures in the morning. Then, the anatomy instructors and 2nd years put together an elaborate haunted house for us that included a live band. Day off tomorrow, so I better tie on a good one tonight. Loving vet school. Oh yeah... learning is fun, too. Cheers, friends.

Seriously? How do you get a Thursday off?

Part of the class spends the day in the VMTH matched up with seniors on different services. The rest of the class has the day off. Every....3 weeks, is it?

Oh, that's a really good idea!

I would like to get a shock collar/ no bark collar for the majority of my classmates. We can hardly get through a lecture without a large eruption of talking. It gets really bad when the professors ask a question. I couldn't hear the professor talk (and they use microphones) over the roar in the middle of class. I am seriously over the immaturity!

One of my biggest pet peeves. It's so rude. However, I also dislike the constant "shushers" lol

Totally agree, I would also like to add to the list... The early packer-er-uppers. With ten minutes left and they start putting away their stuff, it seems like thats when the prof divulges the most important information.

We got our neuro exam grades back. I felt confident when I turned it in, but then people started asking questions and the professor's responses made me feel like I did it all wrong (half of the test was lesion based). This accurately describes what I did when I opened up my score

Yep, I danced in the library. No shame. I actually did super well.
ironically, there's a tumblr gif that describes it.
I think we were all afraid that we would fail or just barely pass. While we were waiting for our exam score, the admin office sent an email out saying that we all have to be available the Tuesday after finals week so we can go in front of the committee in case we get put on academic probation. I was freakin' because I will be out of the country that day and thought I had failed neuro, and therefore would have to leave vet school. (Very irrational, I know.) But, no worries now. 🙂

Yes, every three weeks half of the class goes on rotations to shadow a fourth year and their clinician supervisors. While I enjoy the day off, I also find the opportunity to spend days at the teaching hospital to be some of the most beneficial aspects of the new curriculum.

Just took my first (and only) histology midterm, and I feel like I kicked some ass! 😀. Of course, that may mean that I failed miserably, but it's better than leaving the exam KNOWING that I failed miserably! Ignorance is bliss, right? 😛

In any case, that's the best I've felt about an exam all semester, which I feel like is good to get my confidence up! I've been feeling bummed from less-than-desirable grades in physiology and anatomy, so this makes me super happy. Yay!

How long is yall's winter break? Ours is only 2 1/2 weeks 🙁

We still have 28 actual days of class left.

We actually have a full month! That's a week longer than my undergrad! I'm pretty excited 😀

No one asked you and your long break :annoyed: 😛

😛

If it makes you feel any better, we only get a week (spring break) between winter and spring quarter! And we're in class until mid-June! It's not all that great here, hahahaha

Just figured out I have 17 days of class left in the semester, not including tomorrow since this week is almost over. Holy. freaking. s***.

We have eight days left in our "real classes," including today. Anatomy final less than two weeks away. Then selectives and we're legit done classes December 7th, back in January 7th... so insane to think about next semester.

Wow, we only have like 20 days of classes left too (not exactly sure when finals are but early December- haven't looked ahead that far, still using the one day at a time strategy). We got off almost a full month I think 🙂

Our last exam is the 14th and we're back on the 7th. I plan on hibernating for the duration of break.

Our last final is Dec 11th and then we're back on Jan 7th. So almost a whole month to sleep. 😴😴

Hey everyone🙂 I haven't been on SDN all semester, but I'm playing hookey today and procrastinating on studying biochem (ugh!). We just finished our month long string of exam after exam and now I Can't Find ANY Motivation At All....

I'm glad to see so many of us 2016-ers on here and hanging in there! It's a trip, right? We're all doing it, living the dream! Even though I really hate it some days, I mostly love being in vet school. 😀😀😀 (sorry to be that person)

I cannot say the same for the weather in Blacksburg. It's cold here, with snow in October. Boo. I miss my beach! At least at the beach hurricanes are 1-expected and 2-accompanied by weather warm enough to grill outside when you don't have electricity.

Just to add to the above topic-we have more than a month off for winter break. Last exam is 12/18, back to class 1/22. It's so long I'm worried about not having anything to do. I need a job. I miss working for a living. Not working and bringing in money makes me anxious.

Anyways-just wanted to say hey class of 2016! Hope this semester was/is everything y'all want it to be and more!

We end on Dec 12th (at 9AM!!) and start back up Jan 7th which gives us 3.5 weeks. Oh glorious brain relaxation time. I'm not sure what I will be doing besides not cramming endless information into my brain meat. A prospect that sounds simply decadent after 4 weeks of exam after exam.

I honestly can't believe how fast school goes. And how much we learn every single day! I'm in the same camp of mostly love it every day but occasionally have the 'I'm dying and everything is hard' moments.

We're done December 14th and and don't start back until January 22nd!

I did well on my microscopic anatomy exam! Yay! :soexcited:

Now just two more midterms, and I'm done with tests until finals....

4 finals in the next two weeks :scared:
And the start of two new classes in a week 🙄

Second Anatomy exam tomorrow :scared:. I don't feel as ready as I did on Thursday. I didn't do as well on this mock practical as the one for the first exam and there is a ton more to know for this one, but the same number of points 🙁. I really do love anatomy and have enjoyed studying this weekend and have the awesomest anatomy group ever, but it just never leads to the A that I want so badly. I know my B is not bad and I really don't have room to complain, but I'd trade in all my other As for an A in anatomy, I really want to do well, I put in the effort, I feel I know it well, but then the questions have all kinds of directional terms and I get disoriented. Today for example, I said the labeled muscle was the Internal abdominal oblique because the fibers were running cranioventrally. Someone else in my group was like that's just because it's flipped out, it's really the opposite. I'm like no way, look at that it's clearly cranioventrally. They were sure. I ended up having to put my paper there and drawing little lines the way the striations were going and then folding it back and sure enough it's the opposite as when it's flipped out. At least I found out today before the exam 🙂. Stuff like that is what gets me though. and it's frustrating.

I have a quiz tomorrow over anatomy, physiology, neurobiology, histology, and imaging and am feeling a bit overwhelmed. Not to mention practicals and midterms in 1 week!!! :scared:

Anatomy exam tomorrow. I just want to pass :scared:

Anatomy Final Tuesday. I'm right on the edge of the grade I want. Stressing out! Cumulative anatomy finals should be illegal

Exams are in 3 weeks. Not really feeling so great about this. I have probably missed around 30% or more of the lectures this block, simply because of the way I feel. I am rather good at learning material on my own outside of lecture so it isn't that big of a deal but I also can not concentrate so I have not been able to study very well. I am not sure how this is going to impact these upcoming exams. I have a very decent feeling that it is not going to be good. Now I am just trying to decide if this is something that I should bring up to someone at the school or not. They have great support services for students but I have always been the type of person to just take care of it myself and figure it out on my own rather than telling someone else. I just feel like it is my issue and they shouldn't have to deal with it, but I also feel like it could be having an impact on my ability to learn. It would be much easier to bring this up if I had a definite diagnosis, but I don't.

Yeah, um...that exam totally just murdered my soul.

Not even funny how much I have to learn over the next week and a bit before our anatomy final, then have finals in all the other classes the week after. Feeling really, really stressed out for the first time.

Same here. Anatomy final tomorrow, endocrinology final Thursday, opthalmology final Tuesday, immunology final Friday :bang:
:boom:

I survived 🙂. Definitely did NOT get the 94% I needed to bring myself to an A but it could have gone much worse. I did awesome on the practical as usual, but then there's the written part :barf:.

Got into the cadaver suturing lab for surgery club that I wanted to :soexcited:, I was so bummed yesterday when they sent out the list and I wasn't on it, but since not many 3rd years signed up it opened up more spots for 1st and second years and I made it in 😀. I am super excited 🙂.

We have ABLEs ( Application Based Learning Exercises) this week. No regular classes, just group meetings working through a case together. A nice week to catch up on classes and spend some quality time with the dogs and the boyfriend!

We do something like that, except it's a once a week class called VIPS (veterinary integrated problem solving). We meet in small groups and go through a case at a time. That's kind of nice that you get to take a whole week and do it!

We do something similar in some of our classes. In phys, we each get assigned a group and a case that we have to work up, discuss, and do a client simulation (they're really big on client communication here...). In anatomy, we have these pre-exam assessments where we basically get a reality check on if we're studying enough. Our last one was about doing a spay and removing bladder stones.

Eww cumulative anatomy final! That's just gross! We don't have a cum final since we already hacked through the brachioplexus and removed the head lol.
