Class of 2016....how ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just failed the first exam of my life in the class I thought I totally rocked out :horns: . Not even sure what to feel right now besides completely numb. :lame:

C=DVM!

Just have to rally and pass the midterm/final. You can do it!

Yeah, problem... It's our only exam. 40 awful multiple choice computer exam determines our entire grade.

Maybe there was an issue with the grading of the exam, especially since you think you did so well. I think that happened to an SDNer last year. Have your classmates said anything about the exam?
:xf: for you.

Yeah many people failed it. It's part of our animal systems grade so they average it in with three other classes and give you a grade. So I just have to rock the last class the next three weeks I guess, but they are sending notice to my academic counselor 🙄
I am honestly extremely disappointed in a few things that I'm paying insane amounts of money for right now, but I'll just try and keep my mouth shut. Can't wait to run interviews tomorrow and bite my tongue so I don't splurt out "run as fast as you can in the other direction."
I used to think people who hated vet school were unappreciative, but now I totally get it. 👎

Ballsack.

That seems absurd to have an entire pass rest on a few measly questions...

Measly, poorly, awfully written ones.
Our professor literally told us that she wouldn't be giving us notes bc if we needed to know something we can "just google it" 😡
So I'm paying $300 an hour to google ****. :annoyed:

I would take my 22 page short answer immunology exam 500 more times before I ever even thought of taking this again.

I am so sorry about your test Emiloo 🙁 that really sucks. I totally get where you are coming from though, we just had day 3 of our midterms and not even 10 hours before the exam was to take place we received an email notifying us that the composition of the test had completely changed. Sometimes vet school just really blows 👎

Don't worry about it Emiloo. I know it sucks, trust me, I was in your shoes last year with Neuro...and then again with Hematology. As long as your systems grade is like a C- and your overall GPA is >2.0, you'll be fine. They told me that they were going to contact my academic advisor, but I never heard anything from them. Keep your head up and just push through. If you want to talk to someone from 2015 who had to meet with academic advancement and still made it through to sophomore year we can set something up. I know the people who had to meet with them really wanted to set up a support system since no one was told what to expect or what happens. Anyway, moral of the story, don't fret. Like, I said, just keep going. Don't let this drag you down. 🙂

First anatomy exam is Monday.

I love the professor but he is a horrible lecturer; he put not one but two of the other instructors to sleep during his lab schpiel on Friday... and he is all over the place. He condensed everything we have to know for our practical to a single list... that runs through five pages in double-column rows. And may or may not include things we're not doing 'til the Special Senses exam, and oh yeah, he may have forgotten a few things.

Pluses (because if I don't focus on these I will cry): muscles named for their attachments are my best friend.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I have an overall C+ in systems thanks to this stupid test and still have musculoskeletal to bring it up. Hopefully I can rock it out and make it happen. I've heard hematology is a nightmare. Kind of scared about that one :scared:

You can do it!!! I believe in you! 🙂

Side Note: When I saw "hematology" I automatically thought it was spelled incorrectly because I am so used to seeing "haematology" now....

No problem, Emiloo. If you ever need anything, a helping hand, someone to rant to, advice, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Going through cardiorespiratory lectures.... intentionally skipping the part of the embyrological heart right now.... it confuzzles me, will come back to it later.

I really do enjoy electrical conductivity of the heart though and reading ECG's that is quite interesting. 🙂

Well I failed my first exam 🙁🙁 This sucks 🙁

Sorry, bbeventer! Me too. 1st one as well. I barely scraped by with my canine head exam but this immuno, I tanked. I'm worried by test anxiety is rearing its ugly head.

And I have my histo exam Tuesday. yayyyyy 🙄

I LOVED immuno (once I figured it out), if you have any questions... I would be willing to help. 🙂

I'm so sorry. It'll get better!

Sent from my DROID RAZR using SDN Mobile

Thanks Jam, I honestly don't know what happened 🙁

Oh know kaydubs! Sorry to hear about your exam too! I guess its just that time of year? Can your school do anything for you about your test anxiety? I know my school is fairly accommodating.

🙁

I'm sorry.... I did that right before Christmas break; luckily the exam was only worth 10% of the total grade for me.

Thanks DVM, its comforting to know others have been in there and have survived. Vet school is so humbling at a times... I just hope it doesn't humble me right out the doors 🙁

There is something wrong with you...even when it does make sense it's not fun.

Yes, it is... so much better than anatomy or anything else that is straight memorization... It is like a puzzle that you have to fit all of the little pieces together... and I love puzzles. 🙂

This sounds similar to the people who were able to analyze and loved NMR in orgo. Ugh.

I totally loved NMR. Hahahaha. Does this mean I'm going to kick ass at immuno? 😀

I'm going to talk to both my professors. I'll consider talking to admin too.

Thanks for the offer!! I may definitely take you up on that 🙂

For the past two weeks and for the next 2 weeks, we have 2 exams/week. After that, we have one exam/week until finals. Lots of quizzes to complete every week, too. 😴--I wish

I like immuno until our professor starts talking. It seems like such a fascinating topic, but taught so very badly...

Maybe this is my problem. I had a bad professor in undergrad too.

I LOVED NMR and orgo and I got spanked by my first immuno test.

Anatomy final written exam on Monday and the practical on Tuesday. Lacking motivation because I'm so ready for this class to be over. I feel better about it than the other two, but still not super great.

And I'm super thrilled that I got out of Nutrition next quarter so that is one less class I have to worry about and study for.

It might be worth your while to revisit this idea. Cardio in specific is one area where taking the time to understand the embryology and development immensely helped me to understand the structure and function of the system a lot better.

Yes. Indiana university has some really good embryo videos that helped me a lot.

I also loved Immuno. =) Helping me quite a bit in Path at the moment, too; if you can understand those cytokines and interleukins and where they're coming from and what they're trying to do it makes all this inflammation stuff much easier to understand.

Second anatomy practical/written in a week is on Monday. Special senses. Couldn't care less except the eye is fascinating. (And pulling the vitreous body out of a cadaver is disgustingly satisfying...)

Not enjoying the hysteria that comes with midterms. I don't want to get caught up in who got an A on what test, who failed, how much did each person study, etc. So far I've just avoided talking to my classmates about school unless necessary but lately it seems like all anyone wants to talk about is how much they are studying and panicking over school. I'm starting to isolate myself to avoid the panic but it's lonely. I got swept up in the panic last semester and my anxiety was through the roof during exams. I have a history of anxiety and depression and I want to stay as mentally healthy as possible. Right now limiting my interactions with my class seems like the best option but the flip side is I'm bored and lonely when my SO isn't here (I don't know very many people here outside my class).

I did the same thing you did, Ky. I still do it. A lot of my classmates cram right up until the last minute. I don't really see the point of sitting in one class and studying for another one at the same time. Maybe it works for them, but it certainly doesn't for me. I'm known to go sit in a corner with headphones on before an exam just so I don't have to listen to people quizzing each other. When in doubt, come find me. Worst that I'll do is talk your ear off about hockey.

Sadly, it gets crazy around midterm time, just try to hang tight. I know for anatomy exams, it is absolutely crazy in the lab before the exam, everyone is freaking out everywhere and it's really hard to just focus. My anatomy group is awesome and goes to study, not freak out. So, we find a time when no one else will be there and go in and study then and it is actually enjoyable 🙂. We've studied other stuff too, always with the philosophy that we are learning, not freaking out about exams. I'd say try and find others that also will do that and you should be OK. Just say hey, I know it's a crazy time, but it really stresses me out more talking about it, so can we talk about something else. It can't hurt to try.

I'm the same way Ky. From out first anatomy midterm in October, I've learned who I have to avoid around exam time and when we get our exams back, otherwise I'll just be stressed out. I do a lot of studying with headphones in because hearing people talk distracts me, especially when they're quizzing each other. Sometimes I join in, but I usually don't because if I don't know the material I get even more freaked out.

Currently trying to get motivation to review things for my anatomy final practical tomorrow because then I am FREE of that class. We kind of had a love/hate relationship so I'm glad to be done with it.

I will be so sad when Anatomy is over, I LOVE anatomy. Currently making a papertowel tube horse leg with the arteries and nerves of the distal limb on it 🙂. There should be a surgical anatomy elective next year that I'm hoping I get into. Without anatomy I think I would go from tolerating and even liking vet school at times (during anatomy 🙂 ) to being miserable. It is good just to get out of the auditorium, I hate sitting through class after class in the same room.
