Class of 2018

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would like to move and get the hell out of here as soon as possible. However, I really do need to stay at my job for at least 5 more months because I need the money and the benefits.

Being an adult sucks, obviously.

This....totally this!!! My job is so boring and I am so checked out its sad....I really want to move too but I am in a lease until June as well as needing money to live so yay....

I am fine with boring, but my direct supervisor is a nightmare. She's got a mixture of a couple of personality disorders with some psychotic paranoid features, all complicated by her substance abuse. So every Monday through Friday, every moment of the day is like fml.

Oh jeez....yeah that sounds super fun.....
I just miss using my brain. When I was in school this job wasn't too bad because I had school to challenge me. No psycho bosses here, just some not very educated co-workers.....

Well my boss is also undereducated for her job. She thinks her one semester of university French qualifies her for everything. The lulz.

I am planning to take a cruise in December and visit the Far East in the spring! So excited.

I am going to Hawaii in February. It will be nice way to relax since I will be done with undergrad by then.

I am going a Christmas markets vacation in Germany and Hungary in december!!!! I cannot wait!

Anyone taking any cool vacations before classes start in August?
Totally, the wife and I are going to Paris and Munich for two weeks around the holidays. We figure this will probably be the last time for a decade we have both free time and a lack of soul crushing debt. 😛

Got into my top choice, WesternU!

My cycle is officially over. Thank you everyone and special thanks to you, darklabel for your efforts in keeping this thread active.
😳
Congrats bud!

I'm glad to hear about your successful cycle! Reapplicants FTW!

Ahhh my mistake I just remembered seeing u around on last years underdog thread as well

And thank you! 🙂 I'd say western is pretty darn impressive as well!

Haha

Just heard that MUCOM will be doing some kind of a hybrid thing with MSU and IMS for certain aspects. That's sick

I was asked to interview at KCUMB. Probably won't attend tho

Back5 is doing Western? Thought he was gonna be with me on Touro (hopefully).
I'm turning down TUNCOM. I really liked Henderson, but didn't particularly like the school, not over Western.

No vacation but I do hope to get engaged and probably married early MS1 or even later summer.
I, too, plan on getting engaged (hopefully) sometime next year.

Anyone taking any cool vacations before classes start in August?
Maybe an actual, real, vacation before school starts as well. I have not taken a real vacation (more than 3 consecutive days off work) since 2009. I have forgotten how to relax!

Darklabel,
Please add ii at VCOM CC!
Thanks and congrats to everyone getting all of those acceptances!

Haven't updated since I submitted my app- iis at KCUMB, CCOM, TouroNY, VCOM-CC, LECOM-B, TouroCA, AZCOM, and ATSU-AZ... absoutlely loved KCUMB and CCOM- would not know how I would choose between the 2 if I get accepted to both (although CCOM's price tag is helping quite a bit)

I would love to update, but the new message boards no longer allow me to edit previous posts 🙁

Congratulations everyone! Continue to update and I'll try to update once I can. Man I know its the fun thing to say, but this forum is very limiting..

My cycle is over!

I was fortunate enough to receive II from all the schools I applied to: AZCOM, CCOM, DMU, KCUMB, Nova, RVU, Touro-CA, Touro-NV, and WesternU-COMP.
I attended interviews at: DMU, KCUMB, Nova, RVU, Touro-NV, and WesternU-COMP, cancelled the rest.
I was accepted to: DMU, KCUMB, RVU, Touro-NV and WesternU-COMP (got the good old alternate list at Nova, not surprisingly).

I will be matriculating to Touro-NV in the fall! Paid my deposit this week 😀

Congrats to everyone else on their interviews/acceptances and thanks for all your words of wisdom and encouragement throughout this crazy process! I look forward to beginning our journeys as medical students this fall!

Impressive.

Wish I had you as a classmate at next Fall, but it seems you've found a better fit for you. Good luck!

Just out of curiousity, how would you rank the schools you interviewed at?

So what made you decide on Touro? Can you relate some of your experiences with the schools you interviewed at?

Alright DarkLabel, finally time to update me:

Acceptances: ATSU-SOMA, AZCOM, DMU-COM, LECOM-E, LECOM-B, Touro-CA, WesternU-COMP.

So what made you decide on Touro? Can you relate some of your experiences with the schools you interviewed at?
Absolutely, and keep in mind these are solely my opinions and what I experienced. There was no school I didn't like and no bad interview day or experience, just pros and cons to each that were weighed out in the end.

Nova- It was my first interview so I was definitely a little more nervous. In retrospect, even subtracting the nervousness it was the most stressful interview of the bunch. I enjoyed the day, but wouldn't say I was blown away by much.

RVU- I actually live not too far from here and was already somewhat familiar with RVU. I'd already had good experiences with getting in touch with faculty to shadow (all of whom were very receptive to my requests). I actually found my interview day to be completely relaxing and truly like the interviewers wanted to get to know me. It was the longest interview I had (about 45 min) but certainly the most conversational. Plenty of laughing and joking around, plus getting fitted for a white coat is always a confidence booster! I liked the curriculum structure, however decided not to attend RVU. It wasn't for the SDN typical reasons, but rather I have lived in Colorado for a very long time and the hubby and I are ready to experience a new place. To be honest, I couldn't care less about RVU's for-profit status or anything and the interview day very much impressed me, just needing a change of scenery.

DMU- I really liked DMU, and my interview was conversational although formally structured. Having a student interviewer was actually enjoyable, and the one I got was super nice and outgoing, so it was easy to chat and just be myself. I really liked the school, campus, city of DM, and facilities. Also loved the surgical skills lab, and I have no interest in surgery, that's how cool it was. However, it just didn't end up being the best fit for me.

Western U/COMP- Didn't particularly like how unsafe the area was, or the fact that the cab driver had to walk me up to my hotel door and inside, because he said he wouldn't want his sister or daughter walking around after dark around there (needless to say the hubby wasn't too crazy about this part either!). I liked how we got the interviews done early in the day. I was nervous for the MMI but truly, just use common sense and you'll be fine, it was no big deal. I didn't think the interview went all that well, as both my interviewers were very serious and didn't seem to loosen up, so I felt like I couldn't either. I answered their questions pretty quickly, but was able to ask them lots of questions about Western to keep the conversation going. Guess it ended up being alright in the end! As much as I love SoCal and the weather, the curriculum involved a bit too much PBL/small group stuff for my personal liking- I do better with boring old lectures.

KCUMB- Showed up to my interview day wayyyyy too early after the hotel desk clerk scared me the night before, telling me cabs in KC are near impossible to get, and don't show up half the time. On an abundance of caution, I woke up super early and took the hotel shuttle back 2-3 miles to the airport and caught a cab there, no problem. I was the very last person to interview, but my interviews were incredibly nice and this interview was my most enjoyable by far. The interviewers gave me a lot of positive feedback, and I came out feeling like I did really well. The campus was nice, and the curriculum with iPad integration was very cool also (minus required attendance 😛 ). Again, just didn't end up being the best fit, nothing wrong with the school.

Touro NV- The school I ultimately chose! I really enjoyed my interview day, thought it was very informative. Short interview, but I felt that we were able to cover a lot of ground in the 15-20 min. The interview was definitely structured, but I was able to find some common ground on a personal level with one of interviewers which turned it pretty conversational. TBH, using fantasy football lingo, this school ended up kind of being my "sleeper pick" if you will lol. I thought this school offered the best blend of everything I wanted in a school: lecture-based curriculum, no attendance required (for lectures), no dress code, ideal location/weather for me, board-style exams, smaller class size, the opportunity to remain in LV for years 3-4, cheap cost of living, safe area, no competition with other med students. Yeah, I saw nicer facilities and nicer campuses (ha) but this school just resonated with me. I came out of the interview-my last one- saying, yep, that's my school if they'll let me in. So this was the one that ended up being the best fit, for me personally and my situation.

Sorry so long, but hopefully it will be helpful to somebody! If anyone has questions feel free to shoot me a PM.

I too would like to know.

I plan on taking Touro-NV (find out if I get in this week) over my current acceptance.
Good luck! See my above post. If you have any other questions, feel free to message me!

Maybe we'll be classmates! 🙂

Just out of curiousity, how would you rank the schools you interviewed at?
Pre-interview, sight unseen, purely on paper:

DMU/KCUMB
Nova
Western
Touro NV
RVU

Post-interview-ahh it's tough! I liked pretty much everywhere!!

Touro NV
Western
KCUMB
DMU
RVU
Nova

Which is why I suggest to everyone to check out as many schools as you can afford to, if you get the interviews. You never know which ones will impress and which ones will not live up to the expectations. Again, solely my opinion based on my experiences.

I am just trying to get my ecs where I want them by june 1.

3.51 | 3.71 | 25 (8/8/9) | None | MSUCOM

Raised MCAT from 20 to 25, only applied to MSUCOM, and they don't interview.
