Question for people that have applied before-

How do you deal with being rejected over and over for basically a year straight? I just woke up this morning to a rejection (already) and I'm really down. Just wondering how to keep your head up throughout this process. I'm usually pretty stone cold in terms of maintaining emotional stability but I guess since this is super important to me, I'm more sad than I expected. I'm still in school and have to keep functioning

It's tough, especially if it's your first cycle. This is my third time applying and have received maaany rejections in the past. The first time was a punch to the gut. It doesn't get easier, but just remember vet school is one of the hardest programs you will be competing for against thousand of applicants. If it were easy everyone would be getting in. Take every rejection as an opportunity to improve (for next cycle, if needed). There will be a school that appreciates what you bring to the table, just be patient. You'll get there. Just keep you head up, stay focused and remember why you're taking the path you want. Cliche cheesy saying I love "If there's a will, there's a way!"

This is an old thread, but it was helpful to me back when I was applying: How to deal with rejection?
I know the feeling, I had to apply three times and got 9 rejections and one waitlist over the course of those three years (and I only applied to 3-5 schools each time, so each rejection was pretty crushing). Try not to take it too personally, there are sooo many people applying that sometimes it's just a numbers game. Do a file review if possible, but I know some schools don't offer them if you were rejected based on an initial academic cut. It's absolutely okay to be sad for a bit, but then pick yourself up and move on, it's super early in the cycle and all it takes is one acceptance! In the meantime, keep doing things to improve your application for next cycle if it does come to that.

What! Where?? 😱

Midwestern 🙁 but maybe I should add that they probably didn't even look at my application, because I didn't end up meeting one of their requirements. So technicallllllly it was more like an automatic nope rather than a contemplated nope. Not sure which is worse ha

I couldn't find a thread for UGA applicants, so I felt like this was probably the best option to find some answers. UGA has a supplemental application, with a supplemental essay. Here's the question for anyone who doesn't know or doesn't have the prompt in front of them:

"Discuss briefly the development of your interest in veterinary medicine. Discuss those unique activities that have contributed to your preparation for a professional program. Discuss your understanding of the veterinary medical profession, what you have to offer the profession and your career goals and objectives. (500 words)"

I guess I'm just confused why they would be asking us to discuss our career goals and objectives, if that is one of the VMCAS essays that they are going to be reading. I don't want to be too repetitive, and I am having a really hard time discussing my career goals without saying pretty much exactly what I already wrote in the other essay. Has anyone else noticed this, and how are you dealing with it?
That question is what the VMCAS personal statement used to be 2 years ago, before it was broken up into 3 smaller prompts.

This made me smile for the first time today! Thank you for your encouragement. Also, I always am particularly rooting for the folks who are on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th cycle, so I really hope this is your year!

Thank you for posting the link to that thread!!! I thought there was one like that but I couldn't remember what it was exactly titled. Your perseverance is really admirable. I've always said that I wouldn't give up on this until they literally tell me to stop coming back haha. But I'm now realizing how exhausting the mental aspect of applying is going to be.

Yup, if I hadn't gotten in anywhere on my third try I would have moved on, it's very mentally and emotionally taxing!

This is my third cycle. It’s been five years since I last applied. I went out, got a career, and felt that silent pull back to where my heart wants to belong.

That said, I realize that if I don’t get in this year, it’ll be time for me to put this dream to sleep. ☹️

TFW:When your professors all want things out of the way before thanksgiving so you can work on other professors work...but since its all at the same time it just defeats the purpose.

Iowa and Wisconsin made my day bearable though, very polite people.

Finally submitted! Happy Labor Day! Nothing like dropping a ton of money for application fees....
Same just going over it tonight or latest Saturday. Do you know if there is an evaluator pending if it will still go through. I have more than enough but checking.

You pick yourself up, go scream and cry because you worked hard for it and its ok to be upset. Have some cake, go do something happy and then start planning for next cycle and what you can do better.

This is coming from someone who's dealt with a lot of rejections.

It’ll still go through and start verifying, just make sure they do submit before the vmcas deadline (politely bug them if needed)

Take some time for yourself, a day or two if you have to, and take care of just yourself for that day. Sit and cry, eat ice cream and watch your favorite movie/tv show, read a good book, take out frustration in your choice of video game, whatever you need to do. Then get up and start planning your next steps. I don't know how early schools offer file reviews but if you can find out what they say you should improve then hey, you have a jump start over anyone who has to wait until January/February!

I feel that way too. Just try to avoid looking at it and you won't have to worry about finding mistakes...
I had a nightmare that I forgot something huge but then I checked and I didnt. I did however almost turn in MSU's app saying " Michigan" which is a big no-no. Its MSU not Michigan. Thats like UF and FSU don't just say Florida to UF as it usually means FSU.

My app was just verified too... First time applying, didn't expect it to be this complicated! Already found a very small discrepancy... hopefully they won't notice, but I emailed the VMCAS about getting it changed just in case. Ugh.

So I have a question. My supervisor for an experience was terminated under some bad circumstances and the owner of the place said to use her instead because she fears this person might give bad or negative info because they are angry about being fired. Vmcas said to submit a new experience and put the new phone number and write in the description that this is just the new phone info. Im afraid that will skew my experience numbers.

Why would it skew your experience numbers?

Late on this but I had such strong deja vu and was going to comment because I was pretty sure that was the old personal statement prompt. Good to know I'm not insane!

Sanity is debatable on this website but at least we know we are the same level of sane 😉

Sorry if this has been asked already, I'm not too familiar with this site just yet! I wanted to know if we should assume that the supplemental applications also honor the new application deadline? Thanks in advance!

Dont assume that. Many supplementals last year kept their original deadline. If you are affected by the hurricane some will make exceptions for those people only and some will just automatically extend their deadline for everyone. Unless specifically notified otherwise assume due dates are original.

I know Iowa is honoring it I think, I recieved a message from them about that.

Yeah they are which is good for me bc I am in NC. I didn’t realize that schools might not honor the extension, so thanks @MixedAnimals77 for saying so, I’m about to go frantically email while I have power to ask.
Send a batch email with your schools informing them of your situation. Stay safe, my airmen family are there too so im keeping y'all in my thoughts.

Turns out everyone but Kansas that I’m applying to had an update on their website. So I only had to email them, but that was also an excellent idea!
Glad you are doing ok! I was applying to Kansas but applied to VA/MD instead because I can only afford so much. However Kansas is a fantastic school and It hurt me to pull out of that one.

How often does a mistake happen where vet schools offer interviews to people on accident?

I submitted my final app to my dream (extreme reach) school last night and already received an interview invite this morning. I'm so afraid that it was on accident!!

Am I being crazy?? Lol!

It's a common fear, but I've never heard of that happening! Most schools have you confirm you're coming in some way, so worst case scenario I'd think they'd catch it then. But don't worry about it, that's awesome you got an interview invite already!

That's what I'm hoping! Or maybe that since it's "just" the interview they would just go along with it and then not accept me. Lol

I got an interview invite today, too! :highfive: Don’t think of yourself like that. You got an invite for a reason!!!! Don’t fall into the imposter syndrome trap!!

I literally cried in the middle of Kroger. Haha! And UTK!!! It would be my dream to go back home to my family in TN. I'm so shocked.

*edit - UTK is indeed my in-state but still a reach. Lol*

And for all you lurkers reading this who may be hesitant to apply next round, I don't care what your GPA is, APPLY!!!!! You are worthy and someone will give you a chance! If I can get this far, *you* can get this far!

GOOD FOR IT BEING YOUR IS. Because that likely is your cheapest option. @WildZoo is a third year there currently!!

And for your last bit, ALWAYS APPLY TO YOUR IN STATE EVEN IF YOU DONT THINK YOU HAVE A SHOT. You’re in a smaller pool of applicants and it’s likely your cheapest option
