Got a 10:20 pm interview invite last night from a top program . Woke up to waitlist. Why does this keeps happening??
Someone needs to get this into the nyt or something to shed some light on this. Maybe it’ll pressure programs to stop being so disrespectful, but probably not.

I just cancelled my first interview - incredibly grateful to be in a position to do so, but can't help but feel like i've somehow made a terrible mistake

also struggling a lot with prestige vs. location/proximity to home. rank list making is gonna be fuunnnnn
I'm struggling with the idea of dropping interviews too.

They love **** that makes American healthcare look bad.
But do they care enough to report on programs giving more interviews than slots and on awkward times? Media tailor to the readers and i don't think nyt readers care about this stuff especially given that most US grads match

Actually I think John Oliver would do a great piece on it.

The public ALREADY knows about the opportunity cost, the debt, the 80hr work weeks, the lack of autonomy & private practice, the various and sundry abuse, the suicides, etc.

They wont care.

They’ll think: oh so you got your n-th choice training program for your $200K+/year job. Boo hoo.

I don’t think most people know that applicants are risking death and injury to themselves by swerving across 4 lanes of traffic to get an interview before they’re all gone and they end up scrambling and have no job with $300k in debt.

Touché.

Same. I accepted one today that I should probably decline, but all I can think of is "what if you fall x spots on your rank list"
Same. Especially since location is so important to me, I'm paranoid about dropping any in my desired state even though I'm getting some that are lower on my list now.

Well when you put it that way, i can see an expose written up

Yeah this was John Hopkins which you would expect better from!
Maybe we can send something to like John Oliver for his last week tonight show. He does a great job really diving into **** like this. Cause this is really inhumane relatively speaking

This literally effects like .00001 percent of the population. There's no way anyone would pick up on this

I don’t want to sound like I’m composing because I’m great full for interviews but we have early starts in medicine which means we normally have to go to bed early if we care at all about our health. Then why on Earth would you be sending out interviews this late in the day?

So, thank you emails. Yay or nay? And if yay, to every person who interviewed you?

I mean still dude those are some of the best PMR residencies in the country. Congrats!
Thanks!! I hustled and networked to make up for low step paired with a unique non cookie cutter personal statement seems to be working out! Rooting for you as well man!

The traffic on the reddit spreadsheet for IM is insane. I haven't been able to type anything on there all day-the people on there need to get off if they aren't using it so annoying lmao

I’ll probably just peek at it in February at this point.

Not really much strategizing to be done other than attend the interviews I’m offered!

Sorry were out here talking about ranking rn and its only october but curious-How many programs can you rank per spot? Like can I rank 2 programs as #1 and 2 programs as #2 and so on

Really having a hard time turning down interviews. Even in my back up specialty. Just don't have a mindset that I should turn anything down ever

How would you be able to rank more than one program per spot? The algorithm would still have to prioritize one of them when it goes through.

Here's the NRMP's guide on how the ranking software works and stuff; you can't rank more than one program per spot in your main list, maybe they were talking about supplemental lists for those applying to advanced programs?

No, it’s all put in as numerical list. Algorithm works off of your numbers.

Obviously i did not explain this well lol
