Pleasantly surprised as I don't have a strong application nor connection to the area.
Probably more spots in the average IM programs vs Anesthesia. Definitely might be a factor. Also, maybe more overlap in interviews in IM applicants vs anesthesia.
I think this is exactly what's happening now in rads. A week and a half plus of silence and I've suddenly gotten a couple of out of region interviews in the past week.
I weight vacation time HEAVILY haha i am prone to burnout. A few of my programs have 5 weeks which is a giant plus for me. 3 weeks isnt really going to cut it for me especially at programs with 70+ hr weeks
I don’t know but I know for sure these programs have five weeks it says so on their website and during they’re open houses. 4 weeks for IM isnt super rare but 5 is more uncommon. 3 is not enough imo. Comparing Path and IM are pretty different IM residency lifestyle is brutal compared to path maybe thats why there is a difference in vacation time
Damn, I haven't seen any programs at 5 weeks. 3-4 is the standard I've seen.

Yeah GT is one. 4 is fine but anything under 4 weeks is a massive con for me unless theyre avg work week is like 50-55 hours
The number of applicants who aint getting tipsy in these things is too damn high
Keep in mind not everyone needs to or likes to drink to have a good time. If they have a stick up their butt that’s one thing, but not drinking doesn’t automatically mean stick up butt.

Going to unlurk once again in this thread to say that beer is not gross. Some people don't like it for whatever reasons, and some of us like it—different strokes.
10/10, gotta love the straight up honesty and directness. Depending on the tone of voice he/she asked with, that would've won me over.

The first step is admitting you have a problem.

Only one placed I interviewed so far had it. It was very awkward and everyone stayed on camera looking attentive the whole time. I don't think anyone's head was in it either.
I hate every part that isnt an interview. even the meet the resident part can be super tedious if its more than 20 min. like everyone says the same thing.

If you’re assuming that people who aren’t drinking have sticks up their butts because they don’t drink, you might want to reassess those first two points.
Can I panic about having too many sticks up my butt?

Might vary by specialty but I think every interview i've been on so far has included morning report and/or noon conference
I guess morning report wouldn’t be too bad since it’s not usually terribly long and at the beginning of the day anyway. Both would be cruel.
This is so strange to me! I had no idea this was a thing. None of my psych interviews have had any conferences. What specialty are you applying to?
The bigger academic places seem to.
Med Peds. That's also why we've sometimes had both - often it'll be peds morning report, and IM noon conference, or vice versa, maybe Med Peds noon conference. varies by program though. they don't usually expect us to participate though, and several said we could have cameras off so I use it as a coffee and/or lunch break. I don't mind terribly, it's other things that make some days excruciatingly long. These are all at academic places.
Oh no wonder. Anything related to IM is guaranteed to involve excruciatingly long conferences. Thank God some of you want to do IM. I would go crazy if I had to do it more than 10 weeks.
