Cornell March Acceptances

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
what scares me is that at least three people who have had the "decision has been mailed" have stats above cornell's average (via mdapps in signature), while "a tree" and i have stats a bit below their average and we both have the no change in status page. this makes me *speculate* that they just sent out waitlist spots, and they just haven't gotten around to doing the rejection letters yet.

anyone else care to share where their stats are in relation to cornell's average? i think their average is something like 34/3.78 .

or we can all just stop feeding each other's insanity by posting speculative information with the desperate hope of somehow altering fate. eh, one or the other . . .

edit:

or maybe cornell reads sdn and they're just having fun with us. this might be a slow time of the year for admissions.

yeah, we should prob stop feeding each other's fears and just chill...sorry about the earlier post. let's just wait and see. If it's bad news. It's bad news and there is nothing we can do about it. If it's not bad news, then we will celebrate like crazy!🙂

3.75+/40+. I have the will be mailed in March.

Trying not to be identified here ::scared:

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I got waitlisted. This has been a disappointing month. All waitlists so far.

My decision's been mailed.

Stats are above average... if that's of any help to your neuroses.

my decision has been mailed - stats at average, early interview

My stats are below avg for MCAT, on average for GPA. My decision was mailed. Again, I think these are rejection letters, but we'll see. I didn't click with one of my interviewers so they probably axed me. Oh well.

hey guys!
I called admissions this morning. They are giving the same answer about decisions being made through the end of the month. So for those who have no change, be patient. Only "some" of the decisions have been sent out they said.

Greattt...I'm being strung along again.

(sorry for the negativity but this month hasn't been working out too well for me)

So, I think the status page differences mean exactly what they insinuate and nothing more. Some of us have had decisions made and they were mailed. If you didn't get an email and have had a decision mailed, it wasn't an acceptance. It might be a waitlist or rejection. Some of us have not yet had decisions made and so our status page reflects that and will change once a decision if made. I don't think it's directly linked to waitlist/rejection....could be two different committees, date of interview, weather on the day the committee first met about your application, color of your shoes during interview.

DD---don't worry about stats bein slightly above or below average, I don't think individual cases will fall directly into those lines....

As a result of of a fortune cookie that I opened last night that informed me that I would be "Showered with good luck tomorrow", and with St. Patty's looming on the horizon, my optimism has been bolstered a little bit. I agree with you, Max8, that these status pages probably mean exactly what they say they mean, and that none of us will really know what our story is with cornell until we open an envelope. Hang in there everyone!

I was wearing black shoes and have a 32 MCAT. Did anyone without a status change wear black shoes? I do worry because I interviewed on one of the coldest/snowiest days of the year and during the walk from the subway got salt and mud all over them and had to spit shine in the admissions office bathroom. 🙂

I SWEAR I'm not one of those people that doesn't get sarcasm. I swear!

I nearly booted in the elevator of the hospital I work in when a guy with a Cornell sweatshirt got in on Tuesday. 😳

You just redeemed yourself 🙂

Best fortune cookie I've ever received: "It could be worse, you could be on fire." So true. Really, a brilliant fortune.

same here, dantt. disappointing month. 3.6 GPA, 40+ MCAT, but i've gotten a bit fat pile of waitlists over the last month.

i have the "decision has been mailed" message. i interviewed early...

My status didn't change. I wore black shoes if that helps. Seriously, I think it simply means what it says. But I think all those who interviewed up until last week or so had their application reviewed at least once. Why would they send out acceptances without reviewing all the apps they have at least once. That wouldn't be fair. So, like I said earlier (trying not the fan the flames here) they are keeping us around for one last look. I don't think it means anything particular (i.e. they like us more or less than the people they have already issued decisions) about our application. It just means they are hesitating a bit. Plus I checked with two friends of mine who interviewed the same day I did and they both have been given a decision. (interviewed in Jan.) Next week should be interesting for me. Yale and possibly Cornell next week. 😱

I have the decision has been mailed too. And yay, my waitlist letters are piling so high now...😳 Such a sad month.

Wouldn't you be happy if the "decision" that has been mailed was a waitlist? That would certainly beat a rejection.

Are you holding any acceptances at this point?

👍

a good personal mantra to hold onto most of the time

Also, my shoes were black and the page did change, however, they were not covered in salt/snow because I changed into them after walking to Cornell......hmmmm......the plot thickens.

I had a very cute student interviewer. Did anyone else with a cute interviewer get a "decision has been mailed" notice? I also was wearing a suit. Anyone with a suit get a notice? 😛

I called the admissions office yesterday. They said explicitly that if you got a change in status to "decision has been mailed" it is either a rejection or waitlist. Acceptances will be sent through email. I also had above avg. for MCAT and GPA. Interviewed in late February.

Has anyone with a "letter has been sent" message actually received it yet?

anyone actually receive one of these above mentioned letters??

one of my interviewers said to me "i'm not trying to discourage you, i'm just saying" during our conversation about my interest in global health and desire to do something abroad between and 2nd year...and the other interviewer scribbled a few notes for 5 minutes then ushered me out his door.

poo...

also got the decision mailed status, interviewed october, 37, 3.9

Considering that most people got the status page change on Tuesday, and (as far as we know) no one has gotten a letter yet, is it possible that Cornell is not being entirely truthful with us?

Yeah, it seems strange that for those of us in the city that we have not yet received anything. My netflix goes out to Queens and back in two days. This letter only has to go a few blocks.

I was told that the letters were sent out on March 14. I haven't received anything as of yet. I have been waiting for someone from NYC to let us know whats going on. Hopefully it will be tomorrow...

I don't have much news on this end, but for those that had a harsh older male interviewer, that might have been Dr. Krauss. He's an old curmugeon who is socially awkward, but he's a heck of a neonatologist. And yes, ppl have interviewed with him and have been accepted.

Also, for those that had the cute student interviewer, anyone remember her name? I might have an idea of who she is.

Good luck to all.

Just goes to show you can't ever truly understand an interview or admissions committee! Interviewer flat out told me I would get accepted...and here I am sitting with the "decision has been mailed"...👎

Good luck to you all! Especially those of you for who Cornell is numero uno.

yeah, my interviewer told me i would definitely be accepted, was really impressed with my numbers, blah blah blah...and i'm in the "decision has been mailed" group too.

Wow, they really shouldn't do that!

Anything in the mail today?

me too🙁 soooooo disappointing---Cornell was my #1 East Coast school----

Wow, I can't believe they told you guys that (no one told me that, haha). Maybe the interviewers are out of the loop with # of applicants being interviewed or something.

hey guys, I live in New York and just got a waitlist letter today; my status page changed earlier this week to "decision has been mailed" - there's hope, they're not necessarily rejections!

That's great news. Congrats! Thanks for letting everyone know. I'm in the southeast so it will probably be a few more days before I get my letter. It's good to know that the letter might be a good one.

Congrats on the waitlist! I wonder if this means rejection for me (my page has not changed...)....

Dr. Detroit, I'm with you on the theory. I am going to drink a whole lot tonight. Why is drinking the answer to good or bad news? 🙂

Mine hasn't changed too...from earlier posts it appears that letters are rejections or waitlists. our status simply means what it says. let's not give up hope yet 🙂

EDIT: Anyone rough count of the number of people with status change vs. no change...many more people received the status change right?

EDIT 2: from last year's data I found published online 225 people were accepted from 759. Anyone know waitlists numbers are at Cornell and if there is much movement from the waitlist?

nope, nothing in the mail today (boston). but someone just got a waitlist today in new york, so chances are i'll get one too on monday or tuesday. i've been waitlisted everywhere else in NY...at least it's better than a rejection, right?

and i really don't think interviewers know what they're talking about sometimes. often they're very disconnected from admissions committees, and when they see an applicant who impresses them/whom they like, sometimes make promises they can't deliver. 🙁

Small, small piece of anecdotal evidence: One of my tour guides got off the WL last year, so they took at least 1 person off it.

A fair number of people got off the waitlist (I have the sheet of those accepted given at last year's revisit), so definitely don't lose hope.

Thanks for letting us know.

How does such a list allow you to know who comes off the waitlist? Wouldn't those people just be the accepted outright people at the revisit?

Maybe Monday will bring some good news to those of us waiting! Luck of the Irish??🙂 Come on Cornell let's get some more acceptances!

So, does anyone else still have the "Thank you for interviewing..." message? I mean, it looks like they've only done two batches of acceptances. How likely is it that another is coming at this point?

I guess not too likely but Im still gonna hope🙂🙂🙂

Edit: I also have the 'Thank u for interviewing...' message still

It seems that most people have either gotten an acceptance or have the "decision has been mailed" status...As far as I know only one batch has gone out (3/12/07).

EDIT: I think I remember the first batch you are speaking of...that was sent in January to a select few. It wasn't a full round of acceptances.

I'm confused. I figure those who are here now in my class who weren't on the revisit accepted list are the ones that came off the waitlist.

My interviewer told me that they accept a few really amazing candidates in January in an attempt to steal them away from the few higher ranked schools. I won't mention any names or anything but one of the schools is across the river from me.

Perhaps I am not as familiar with those on this thread as I should be, but I didn't realize you were at Cornell. That clears things up.

Yeah, still have that message. I did horribly on my Cornell interview though. I had a jolly rancher in my mouth during both interviews... and it was really obvious with all the slurping/crunching at the end😛

Hahahahahahhaha. I totally grabbed one of those red and white mint things from the secretary thinking I had like 10 minutes before my interview. And 2 seconds later he came out. So awkward. I kept thinking I must look like an idiot.

Obviously he didn't mind so much. There's hope for you.... Good luck.
