In 2016 I will be completing my PGY3 as a PHO (sort of equivalent as 1st year radiology resident) in nuclear medicine (12 months worth). Have also done 12 months as a paid intern (rotating), 6 months as a JHO (rotating) and 6 months as a PHO in Rad Onc prior to this. I am Australian.

Haven't been able to find information on this anywhere - but is this sort of experience considered when applying to radiology residency in the US? Can PDs give credit for my experience to skip the prelim year requirements?

If you're in IMG, I think they prefer that you have an intern year done in the U.S. That is from what I have seen so far. Better to ask a PC or IMG radiology residents.

You don't get credit for residency years completed outside of the US, outside of special circumstances (this not being one of them) this is not done. You will have to complete the intern year like everyone else unfortunately.

Would be interested to see what a special circumstance is...can't really think of one. Are you a PD and you know this applies to all programs?

Would be keen to hear from someone involved directly in the process rather than speculating.

Not a PD, have heard of specialists especially surgery getting institutional based credit I.e. Can perform pediatric heart surgery at CCF but only CCF. For general intern years I've never heard of anyone getting credit and I've met quite a few foreign guys at this point who were specialists/completed intern years in their own country.
