d.o's not allowed to rotate at Rush anymore...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I like their love squabble more then the topic, Megboo what is your avatar pic about and are you giving or receiving?

yeah..but this is called "hijacking" a thread - if youre interested in megboo and northerner's correspondence perhaps you can designate a thread for it.

People posting here ARE concerned with the topic. so lets not waste thread space any longer.

What are some of these programs?

The weaker programs would be like family practice programs out it podunk, so they become dual to attract DO's. Strong dual programs would be like MSU's EM residency at sparrow hospital or PCOM/albert einstein EM residency in philly

That's my old college roommate's sister - we're tailgaiting at SIU homecoming and being silly whilst emptying a cooler behind me.

These usually turn into good stories

And stop hijacking the thread 😛

1. I'm just having a little side conversation in a thread in which I'm actively providing useful information.

2. I dont want to study Omm. so any distraction is good.

Good point. I'd be interested to hear what response you "LET'S SUE!" people have to say about that.

...and it's "weird".

Oh my, that's easy, SUE BACK

Try making it harder next time...

it's not common at All. which is why it is so strange.

it sucks, but i guess if this really is rush's policy, there isnt much we can do about it. luckily, pretty much every other school in chicago rotates D.O students, so its not like our options are limited..

Actually, there's much that may be done, depending on the details of the issue, if there is an issue at all. It has been done in the past, successfully, so more power to get it done now if necessary.

Woo hoo!! STFU cat is back! :hardy:

Yeah, I wanted to put that up earlier but it was too soon for Xmas stuff. So I put my naughty pic up in the interim.

I miss STFU cat. He's at the kitty hotel until tomorrow cause we were out of town for the holiday. So is Little Face.

wow, this thread really went to Sh**.

wow, this thread really went to Sh**.

Yup ... it was a real issue that presented real concern, yet evolved from: people blaming the AOA to a personal battle to pointless, personal insults. It gets old ...

Many of them are bending over backwards to help me. There are a bunch of hospitals looking at starting residency programs (contrary to what the doomsday crowd will tell you)

Fortunately, it is not up to them. If hospitals could, they would put in thousands of residents even for very small hospitals. Residents = free labor and free $$$ from the federal govt.

So I am glad it is not up to them, because if it were, we would have a doctor population ten times larger than we need. We would take literally millions of FMGs every year if it was up to the hospitals to add residency programs whenever they wanted.

For the record, I think its pretty ****ing hypocritical for DOs to bitch about training spots. You have 2 freaking matches you can participate in, one of which is totally closed off to MDs.

I got a compromise for you: we'll make a new law stating that all hospitals have to be open to taking DOs for clinical rotations. The law will also state that the DO match is forced to be open to MD students.

Give me a break. I tried to get a serious thread going not too long ago and many posters came and made a joke out of it.

Sometimes that's just the way they turn on SDN. And you can either get it back on track or call the mods to close it.

Fine with me- but yea the MDs have to take comlex. I am not sure how much the OMM aspect would hurt them though,

I deleted my post because I am not sure how externships/internships work. If I want to do a rotation in a MD hospital, do I have to take the USMLE step 1?

Depends on that hospitals or program directors policy

I don't think a medical student would be able to claim that discrimination due to the last two letters of the degree they are trying to earn is a violation of their rights and enables them to bring a lawsuit against Rush or any of the other hospitals that have this policy.

In the end, for whatever reason, the hospital made the decision and it is their perrogative to do so.

Sorry to hear it though.

Although I've seen some with GPA (or class rank) stipulations, I have yet to run into one that requires a step one score. Doesn't mean there aren't any, but I've looked at a bunch.

My reply was in no way directed at you megboo!! Sorry for the confusion. It actually wasn't directed at anyone, and probably shouldn't have even been said ... I was just having a bad night 🙁

Don't be mad because your hospitals want us.

Are you a lawyer? Oh that's right you're a premed. Let's let the courts/lawyers decide legality and you can go back to ochem and mechanics...

Im not sure why this is a big deal, I haven't seen any matchlist where alot of DO's went to rush anyway. There is a bunch of good univeristy programs in Chitown that takes alot of DO's, Loyola, UIC, Northwestern, U of Chicago. This new policy might be a good thing, now you wont waste your time doing sub-I's at a place that wouldnt match you anyway.

Also they dont even hold a family practice residency at Rush university medical center. So why would we want to go there 😉

Wow, you are a medical student? Then you must be an expert on everything. In fact, since I am a mere pre-med I suppose I should bow down before your almighty knowledge.

Get over yourself, not everyone who posts here is a 22 year old kid who is in awe of you simply because you got into medical school somewhere.

Out of curiousity, why didn't you direct the same comments to the pre-meds and med students who were in the process of filing legal briefs against Rush earlier in the thread?

But by all means, you guys should bring suit against Rush. Make sure you notify me of your court date, I'd like to see you get laughed out of the court room, if you even make it that far.

Discrimination on the basis of a degree which you don't actually have will certainly be an interesting arguement.

I didn't call them out, because I have an inkling that they may be correct, but I am not sure. Based on old cases that I read about in Gevitz, I at least think that there may be a case. I never claimed that I thought there would be, but you acted as though you actually know what you're talking about, which is a considerable distance from anything resembling truth.

The fact is that I'm not making claims that I know nothing about. Here is you doing just that:

You have no understanding of the legal system or what Rush is allowed to legally do... either do I... but I don't claim that there is no case when in fact there may be -- If you read my posts, you should be sure to note that I haven't claimed anything that I know nothing about.

Don't be angry bc you suck at posting on SDN. Oh, and you better learn fast as a future medical professional that it is a BAD idea to act like you know what you're talking about when, in fact, you don't.

Game, set, match.

I think everybody here needs to get over this need to trash each other relatively soon, or infractions are going to pile up. I hate acting like a Mom, especially since I have no ovaries, uterus or vagina, but I can only take so much...

Now play nice!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is your last warning!

Hey scpod, or should I say lover 😍

Really? Are you a lawyer? I mean, if that is the standard you are applying, you should apply it to yourself.

You didn't call them out, because you agree with their position. That's fine, but don't cast stones upon the expereince of someone else who doesn't.

In the end, neither of us are lawyers.

Are you going to be that guy that comes onto an anonymous internet forum and insists that everyone who participates is an expert in everything they comment on? I would suggest that to be a futile existence.

It's a forum, people spout off, it's the nature of the beast. In the end, I doubt anyone is taking legal advice from any SDN poster (with the possible exception of those who actually are lawyers).

First you call me stupid, and then you claim I "suck at posting". Okay, whatever, but your conniption fits reflect upon you, not me.

At any rate, you haven't shown that you are any more versed in the law than I am. Remember, every time you point a finger, four more point back at you.

I recognize the deeper paranoia here, and I know that is why you are lashing out at me. For the record, I don't think osteopathic students should be barred from any clinical rotations simply due to their degree.

Game, set, match.

Again, are you going to be that guy that keeps score on an anonymous internet forum? And again, I would suggest that to be a futile existence.

OK the game, set, match thing was in jest. And I have no deep paranoia, but I have no desire to enter a conversation about my motives.

What I would like to point out is that I had no statements of knowledge. Rather, any comments I made demonstrating my "understanding" of law were severely limited in nature, and full of disclosure that I have no idea what I am talking about. You came in here insisting that people understandably upset about their options being limited by their future degree/current enrollment were incorrect. You made a judgement as if you had some sort of realistic ability or know-how to do so. That is VERY different than what I did. Yes, people make claims about stuff they dont know much about... it is the job of other posters to point out when they are incorrect or unrealistic..

Anyway, I would love to continue this but I have wasted enough time on SDN. I have an exam on Friday 👎

In your mind only. I said "I don't think.....", so I hardly claimed any level of expertise. Admittedly, I am not a lawyer, and I always appreciate anyone who is more knowledgable correcting me when I am wrong when they can do so in a mature manner.

Good luck.

Good luck.

Can someone verify the reason that this policy was enacted...is it permanent? Is it just for this year? This is very dissappointing...I thought the days of hospitals limiting opportunities for DO's were over...its one thing to have never let a DO rotate and keeping that policy, but its completely different to having DO's rotates for years and then changing it...this is very dissapointing and will effect my decisions with MD vs. DO...who know if this will start a trend...who's next...UIC, Loyola, Uof C...cant take that risk....and how can they be an affiliate of Midwestern University but then not allow them to rotate there...this is not very good...could this be backlash from the "for-profit" school opening, as they strongly placed "LCME allopathic medical schools" on that policy statement...this is very interesting...

That's ok. I should have known better - you've never been snarky to me before.

I have just been exhausted the last coupla days and on edge a little. Ok maybe a little more than a little 😳
