Same. I hate writing these kinds of letters. Was barely able to fit anything in at all without going over a page (not a hard and fast rule I know, but still a guideline to follow).
 
Did any non-citizen/non-perm resident people get an interview at Dartmouth this year?

The latest MSAR file that someone uploaded says around 400 applied --> 0 interviews? Maybe the data is unknown? Only asking since the previous MSAR edition said that the data was unknown.
 
i believe that andrew welch left already. but anything addressed to the admission committee will make its way into your folder, so it'll be fine.

just make sure your letter is meaningful. tell them how has things has been going since applications, what you're doing now if different from before, new experiences, and how all of that is influencing you and your future as a physician, and of course why do you think DMS is the best fit for you.

i was a waitlistee myself and didn't get in till july. the waitlist is a major pain in the *** but it is constantly moving, so don't give up hope! =)
 
In the LOI though, should we just talk about what we've been up to since the interview and our summer? I can never tell whether to mention fall plans as it shows that we're realistic but at the same time, I don't want them to think "well...come back in a couple of years then" So I should just stick with the summer stuff?
 
I just wrote a short letter telling that I am still interested. I didn't even bother to try and go into the specifics as my letter was already a page in length. how do you guys fit so much into such a small space?

fall plans? as in plan B if you don't get into med school? no i wouldn't write that. i think that looks too pessimistic. i wrote about classes that i enjoyed, new activities that i was doing, and made sure i hammer in that DMS and I truly belong together.

mine was more like 2 pages.

There are a bunch of international in every class (I think mine has ~ 10 out of 83).
 
I have been told that ~150 ppl get waitlisted. Anyone know if that's true? I'm sure a lot of people leave the waitlist on their own, but still...that's a looooot of people....😕

I vaguely recall something about interviewing ~400 and putting out ~150-200 offers (with 70-something matriculating in the final class) or so they said on interview day

So if they have like 70-80 accepted so far plus ~150 waitlisted (according to a few posts above), do these odds look rather good?

Or maybe I really can't do math :laugh: (no need to tell my stats prof that)

I don't think they just accept 70 people and then go directly to the waitlist. Rather, they accept people as they go; then as people withdraw, other people (non-waitlistees) are accepted; and so forth.
 
"other people, non-waitlistees?" true but we're at the end of the cycle now so everyone's been either accepted, waitlisted or rejected. i was assuming that they've handed out a fair number of accepted (70-80 is just a guess, for all I know it could be 50 or 90) and from that, try to deduce how many people will make it off this supposed 150-person waitlist. yes?
 
I'm pretty sure they interview 600 ppl, and accept 200 (I remember my host saying you have a 1 in 3 chance of acceptance once you get an interview). 200 does seem kind of high (do ~150 ppl really turn down Dartmouth?), but those are the numbers I've been told. It's probably not a good idea to waste my time guessing about stats that can't be confirmed....but I still do it!

Hi all! I've been a silent reader of this thread for a little while, and figured I'd join in now that it's getting close to May 15! I'm also on the waitlist (interviewed in mid-Jan, placed on the waitlist 3 weeks later). Dartmouth is by far my top choice so I'd love to see how it's going for everyone.

According to the 2007 official acceptances thread only 2 people got in from the WL, but I hope that these are not representative of the entire pool... how many people actually post to SDN when they get in places? I'm hoping not many based on that number?
 
I don't know the numbers but I've been told A LOT of people get off the waitlist.

I guess we're all in limbo for now and hope we get picked with the waitlist movement between May 15th and early June! 🙄

I am so beyond envious, but congratulations! I am choosing between two schools today, and this entire time I've just been thinking of how much easier this decision would be if Dartmouth was a possibility.

Here's hoping!
 
I got the call from Dean Welch at 11:15am (EST) this morning in Bolivia! I am so beside myself with happiness, I can hardly function.

Just so you know, those of you who wonder if you're pestering them, I sent a letter of interest after my interview (if I remember correctly), and then another 3-page letter of interest and 2-page update letter after I was waitlisted. I sent them another quick e-mail reinforcing my interest a few days ago, and yesterday I sent them another e-mail telling them that I definitely preferred them to my current schools.

So, while I may have overdone it, it apparently wasn't bad enough to scare them away. 🙂 Just in case you thought you were sending too much, now you might feel better. Good luck!

CONGRATS DoctorDreamer!! That's excellent news! I sent them a few letters of interest/update letters but now I may send another one, considering that it helped you. Are you going to DMS for sure now?

I try not to give guarantees, because I never know what may happen, but it is definitely my intention to go to DMS.

Anyone looking for a roommate? 🙂

To those of you who are going to Dartmouth (Class of 2012!!), what are your housing plans so far? Have y'all started applying yet?

I've been looking at different rental options in the area via internet, but I'm still looking for a roommate primarily.
 
I would suggest applying to live in North Park. I didn't live there first year, but many of my classmates did. It's very convenient, the price is reasonable, and you don't have to deal with a landlord or utilities.

You can also use the Upper Valley Rental List to try to find an apartment. I suggest looking in Hanover and Norwich, VT (both expensive but close to campus) and Lebanon, NH, West Lebanon, NH, and White River Junction, VT (these three if you don't mind driving).

I also seem to recall DMS admissions putting together a list of incoming first year students and their contact info and roommate preferences if you want to try to find roommates within the class. Admissions might still do this so you may want to call up admissions and ask Brenda if there is a list.

Hey DoctorDreamer, I just jointed SDN...I missed some really good info. Nonetheless, I was taken off the waiting on May 15th. Looking for roommate as well. What an exciting yet unnerving process!

For those of you who are international and on the waiting list, don't lose hope and send letters to Andy.
 
Wow. Well, for those who are interested, I released my Dartmouth acceptance. I also came off the Baylor waitlist, and after a LOT of thinking, I *barely* decided to go to Baylor (although I'll probably apply for a residency at Dartmouth).

I am completely heart-broken by the fact that I am not going to be at Dartmouth, but I'm still excited and think I made the right choice for me. Anyway, releasing Dartmouth was one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make.
