Hello Left Coasters,

I thought I'd start a new thread for dinner plans so as not to completely hijack the main UC Davis thread. I started writing a private message but it said it would only let me send it to 5 people. 🙁 Maybe we should set up an email list or something? I was worried that having 2 different PM's would make it difficult to coordinate. I'm including my email address and I'm happy to give out my phone number (I won't be on email once I leave home) by PM/email.

I am flying in to Sacramento at 3:40 so any reasonable dinner-ish hour would work. I think incendium04 said that after 6 would work best for her, but I understand that a lot of people have classes and exams to study for, so how about 6:30ish?

I have no idea where to go (suggestions?) or how to get anywhere (I won't be renting a car if possible), so suggestions are welcome. Thank you for entertaining the Wrong Coaster!

Haha well I will be in Stillwater partying at the Tumblweed.. j/k.. I will be stuck in OK though working to make you feel better twelvetigers. I was not a part of the Davis club, but my roommate was and she decided it was not for her.
 
I'm in! I'm not interviewing this year, but it would be fun to meet you guys, if that's cool. Around 6:30 should be hunky-dory for me 🙂.

Umm, I'm pretty easy. Italian/any Mediterranean (usually my first choice), ribs/steak (definitely a carnivore, but I understand if other people aren't 😉 ), quesadillas, etc., are all good. Not so much into Asian food, but I can find something I like pretty much anywhere.

That's too bad -- I've been craving sushi!

I'm down for whatever...I'm not a carnivore, but I can find something to eat just about anywhere!
 
As a third generation Italian-American from the other coast I can tell you that the one type of food here that has really not impressed me is Italian food. The Asian and Mexican places blow anything I've had on the east coast out of the water but not so much for Italian.

Pluto's is probably my personal favorite place to eat in Davis.

Fuzio is sort of interesting, at least. It's like, a blend of a lot of different cuisines.

Guadalajara has pretty good burritos and is reasonably priced.

You said you don't like Asian food but there are quite a few decent Thai and Viet places too.

Really I'm down to go wherever, but those are some of my suggestions if people want to comment!

Wow, I'm a third generation Italian American as well...from New York...and I couldn't agree more!
 
Rileyroo, would it help if I told you that I found out on the Davis Wiki that they have an actual Spanish (as in tapas and lots of olive oil) restaurant in Davis? 😛 They certainly don't in Ames, IA (I checked online).

Well, my mom is a 3rd-gen Italian-American from NY, so I was raised to have high standards for Italian food, so maybe we should skip the Italian. 😉 Why don't we go with the local specialty and do burritos at Guadalajara? Any other thoughts from the locals? 🙂

P.S. Whenever I spell "burrito", I feel like I'm talking about a diminutive burro.
 
I like Fuzio or Pluto's. Pluto's is right near my place! I think Fuzio's used to be by my place...but it moved? I've had a lot of Guad's lately, so I'm leaning towards the others...I can go anywhere though!

You know where the best place to get pizza in Davis is? Village Pizza Bakery. It's kinda on the expensive side, but I swear it's to die for. I'm really hungry right now and need to end this comment before I drool on my keyboard....
 
I'm not exactly known for being decisive in matters that I don't have a strong opinion about, but since multiple people mentioned plutos, why don't we plan to meet at outside of Pluto's at 6:30pm tomorrow?

Let any objections be stated now...

I'll do my best to wear something vet school related so I'm easy to identify. 😛
 
Several people on the Davis Wiki mentioned getting food poisoning from Pluto's within the last year -- !?!? I hate to be the odd one out but reading that made me nervous. :scared:

hahaha, don't mention that to JustCats (she was one of the people who got food poisoning from Pluto's)

I've consumed food from there without a problem before, and I am sure they've been really careful ever since, but if people are really that concerned we can decide on something else.
 
Fuzio's sounds good! I'll wear my Lactation Class t-shirt to "stand out". It has a Nike sign with teats. Animal Science people are funny creatures...6:30 still good?
 
I'm guessing there won't be many people with similar t-shirts. 6:30 is still good -- hoping that the thunderstorms in San Diego tomorrow don't mess with my flight schedule (it's hella expensive to go direct from MD to Sac). 🙁

lol, if you avoid every place that people whining on daviswiki say to avoid, you will basically have to eat leaves and dirt from the arboretum or something.

I've also never had a problem from there, but yeah Fuzio is fine too!
 
Ah, OK, I wasn't able to put it in context. We'd probably get Giardia or something at the arboretum from drinking out of the pond. 😀

Not the Giardia part, the Fuzio's part.

And for daviswiki, I think usually when I introduce daviswiki to people I tell them to take the comments with a whole shaker's worth of salt. Just like with most places where people voice their opinions, the opinions will come from a vocal dissatisfied minority.
 
That's OK, I should have thought about it for a minute -- the most vocal people on the Internet (or anywhere) are usually those with a complaint or an axe to grind.
 
Yuck. I can't even hear about Pluto's now without feeling queasy which is really too bad because I used to love it.

No Pluto's? 🙁 That's ok, I've never been to Fuzio's and I love Italian food. Myself and KittyRex are likely to be there. As long as we're not hyperventilating over impending GI exam and finals...

Nice Incendium! I didn't know I was planning on coming!!! 😛
HAhaha. Ok, I'll try to make it but considering the took two "vacation days" I just took from studying after the final on Friday I should probably try to actually be marginally prepared for upcoming GI final on Tuesday. 😉

p.s. study vacation days + feeling like a normal human being -cramming later = totally worth it 👍

Climb? On a huge, pasta-filled stomach? Hmmmmm, gotta think about it.

Looks like KittyRex won't be making it though. [As an aside directed at Pomona's aside, she definitely noticed her avatar being used! I did a double take when I realized what was on the slide.]
