cfinn.... I can saw that set up outside and I really don't think they should make us stand outside!!!

I was planning on wearing something nice for the first day, I'm not about to sweat a storm in it!!!

Do any of our upperclassmen know whether or not we'll be standing outside.... I really hope not!!!

Are you ready to get started cfinn? Kinda nervous here myself....

hehe, I am an Iowa native, and this weather is just getting good and hot, august is usually the worst of the bunch, but by mid-September it will start really cooling down.
(at least at night)

popoy I will make a deal with you, if you dress casual I will too so at least I wont be the only one wearing shorts and a short sleeved shirt. 😉

I can't see them making us stand outside all day, god I hope not esp on the 2nd day in professional dress. If they do though I just might have to run back to my apartment across the street once or twice to cool off.

Yup, that what it feels like for me too.... strange.... I'm far from home (California) in a place where I don't know many people.... It's like starting the first day of elementary school or something....

cfinn, you don't happen to live in Windsor Terrace, do you?
 
Shorts.... let me get back to you on that.... I've seriously considered it but for some reason or another keep thinking I shouldn't.... Right now,I'm leaning towards wearing shorts, short sleeve shirt, and sandle 😀 .... We'll see....
 
BTW cfinn, I've talked to a couple of our fellow classmate and they've express dressing down for the first and last day of orientation so I'm sure you (or I) will not be alone....

Another thing, do you know for sure if we start the orientation on the 7th or the 8th? because the "white" sheet of class schedule indicates 8th while the "yellow" sheet states 7th.... Any thoughts? I'll probably go visit DMU on Monday just to make sure.... 😎
 
the DMU webpage under student services has the orientation outline online (its what i am going off of since i can't seem to find my packet)and it starts on tues.

yea, i live in winsor terrace on the southwest corner, can't get much closer to Azner then that. You live in the same complex?

Anyhow, Monday if your going over to the school maybe we can meet up and go for a cup of coffee cause i was thinkin i might head over and look around the bookstore.

It would be nice to meet up, but unfortunately I don't think I will have time for a cup of coffee.... My wife and I are running a few more errands for practically the entire day.....

How about just meeting up at the bookstore? What time were you planning on going there? I was thinking about going there around morning/noon.... I'll let you dictate the time and I'll meet you then.... I also want to see if there are anything else new at Matthew's bookstore.... Till then....

If you get this post some time in the next couple of hours.... I'm doing laundry in the basement, you might see me there 😀

Hey boys and girls the tent is set up mainly for a cook out that is scheduled for later in the afternoon after all of the day events are over. I believe it is put on by the ACOFP.
 
I can pretty much meet you whenever, maybe 10am or whatever works for you.

Yup, I figure that out with the schedule for the orientation.... it's some kind of lunch for students and families... thanks....

I have arrived in the land of milk and honey. Wait... I have arrived in the land of corn and pork. Oh yeah.
I got here with my family a couple of days ago and we are almost all moved in. Fortunately, unlike others who post on this board, we have air conditioning.
I am excited to get started. However, in a couple of weeks I may be eating those words. I look forward to meeting everyone at the orientation. Later.
 
Howdy everyone and yup.... you folks have arrived to the land of pork and corn.... Remember the Iowa State Fair start on August 9th where one can see more pigs and corn...and other things of course.... 😀

BTW, here's the forecast for the next 5 days (Mon-Fri, respectively) 95,92,90,86,84 with a chance of rain on Wed & Thurs....

hey popoy it was great to meet you to man, listin if you dont have a air conditioner, go and buy one hehe, for like 200 bucks you can live in comfort or....i believe that winsor terrace even rents them out for 30 bucks a month.
Trust me we have another month of solid heat here and you are going to kick yourself everynight when you go to bed sweating.

Well, I don't go to DMU, but Po had shown much love to the Optometry peeps.. so I thought I'd return the favor. I know y'all start orientation tomorrow so I just wanted to wish y'all the best of luck. (from a future OD) 😉
 
Just a question to all you DMU students attending orientation tomorrow. What is everyone wearing on the first day? I planned on wearing causal clothes especially in this heat. What about day 2? It says professional. Does that mean suit? It will be damn hot in a suit all day, besides what is this picture for? If it is student ID, hell I don't care what I look like. Anyway someone please hit me back!

I'm not sure whether or not you'll get this but I know of a few people that will be wearing shorts tomorrow... Just be comfy for tomorrow.... I'll be wearing casual wear....

For the second day, the reason you have to dress professionally, I think, is because we have to take our class pictures as well as with our "white coat".... I don't think you have to wear and entire suit.... I'm planning on wearing just a casual wear with a shirt and a tie, of course....

I'll see y'all tomorrow...!!! As what Judge Mill Lanes said, "Let's get it ONNNN!!!!"
 
To the newbies: congrats - enjoy the orientation.

Mr. Smith - not sure when you guys start up again though I'm guessing next week. Did you pick up your bag at the bookstore? Tina (?? - the one who isn't a sister)knows it's for you and will be expecting you whenever. If you can find it before classes start, buy a used Dubin EKG book & start reading it - it's a VERY easy read and you'll be up on the ball when Hoff starts talking abut EKGs.

Orientation is long.... but bearable.... very interesting first day.... Met a few people and everyone seems very nice.

Let's see, thus far I'm met t-bone, kidT, TDurden, cfinn, and one more that was a musician as well but I forgot her screen name.... I have yet to meet the others.... Maybe some time down the road.... Later y'all....

BTW, thank goodness it was much cooler today than yesterday....

I hope all of you first year students have enjoyed your orientation and have had a chance to make a lot of new friends and are excited to start on Monday... see you all around on campus.
 
Any second year students out there who can tell us what DMU's pass rate was on the COMLEX??? How about for those who took the USMLE???

DMU's pass rate for the COMLEX was 95%. Don't know for the USMLE.

Josh, I'm still here, or actually I'm in Des Moines now. I won't have internet access in my apartment till Tuesday. I'm at my parents' house for a bit to do laundry and pick up my laptop. I'm headed back to Des Moines tonight and off to the fair to see the Nadas play on one of the free stages. Or I might just go catch a nice lecture on credit cards and R.O.T.H IRAs. Was anyone else bored to tears by that part?

I think I have nearly met you JP. I think you and your wife were about to get on the same hayride as my friends and myself but there wasn't any room left. It didn't dawn on me till we were off and on our way. Is it just me or do hay rides normally have hay? The driver type guy let my friend drive the thing though.
 
It was nice to meet some of you guys last night. Your class is alot different than ours, you guys are much younger and seem a little more laid back. party hard this weekend....b/c as you've heard, the real fun will soon begin--

plesae reference my little faq thing i put out a while ago-it may help in terms of books etc.

....and the cradle will rock.....
