Blah blah blah. God damn neo-freudians make me sick 😴 😴 . I will give you an ego defense. Blah blah blah. I wonder if you can masterbate in the lecture hall....hmmm

Ummm.... not funny.

Someone got caught doing that in the lecture halls last year. Not during actual classes but at night while studying. There are cameras all over campus and they never turn off. Just remember that 🙂

You may hate ego defences but I got 6 or 7 question on boards that delt with it, so learn it now and learn it well.

Haha, no, I was a psych major, I just don't agree with much that Freud said. Ego defense is one thing. As for social sexual stages of development, anyone that compares the control of the bowl to having a later need to control his or her enviornment with little to no focus on other events (blah blah blah, I need to shut up).

So, if you had sex, you would be making your own porn...hmm, I wonder if that is "unprofessional?" Let us start an ethical debate on it. However, I do not want any "financial weasles"...

I guess you would, but not for your own private use, and do you really want the creepy dudes who work in the Security office seeing you get your freak on? 🙄

Does anyone know how the HELL DO YOU STUDY FOR BEH. MED????????
Power points? Class notes?? Book?
Can someone chime in on this? Grassy ass! 👍
I can't take this...anymore. 😴

Welcome to the citric acid cycle boys and girls!!
ouch!!!

SERIOUSLY, WHEN WILL WE EVER TAKE 15 MINUTES TO BE SOMEONE'S PYSCHIATRIST IN PRACTICE!? Besides being a psychiatrist of course... If I ever see a patient and they have issue's like Mrs. Jones, they're getting TURFED to PSYCH.

I realize that we are supposed to "take the whole patient approach" in medicine, but there's a difference between being a whole physician and being a counselor. I plan on being the former...

ouch!!!

I studied the powerpoints and notepools and never went to a lecture and ended up with an 88%. I guess I could have done better if I had gone to class, but the extra sleep and not having to listen to Means and Monsma was worth it!

Thanks! When are we getting note pool for our class???? Anyone?
And Navy, how much did you study for the tests? Couple of days before or as you went along? Seems like you want to give time to Biochem/Anatomy before you sit down for your beh. med.

Hey DMU Class of 2010, a word of advice. Watch what you say on this forum, you are not as faceless as you might think. Students from all of the DMU classes as well as professors look at what is going on here. Watch your language, act respectful (toward each other and the faculty) and be professional. If you are posting alot of this stuff while in lecture to help time pass, you are not being professional. If you don't like the professor, get up and leave. Don't sit there behind your laptops and mock a person who is there to help you. Sure its Ok to vent, but don't use language that you wouldn't use if you were out in public (don't let other classes that have posted here previously be your guide as to what is OK to post, many of those who have gone before you have gone too far.) Keep it clean, you are future physicians, start acting like it now. After all you've only been at this about 2-3 weeks now? Wait a few weeks and you will have all kinds of stuff that will REALLY be stressing you out. My 2 cents, take it for what its worth (OK, now start tearing me apart)

Good point, but I for one talk the same way on here as I do in real life. If people have a problem with that then they do. I have gone through life being well liked, at least in my own opinion. Nothing I can do to change that and I REFUSE to act fake. As for behavioral medicine, I liked the class today.

You should probably watch who you are quoting, and not equate their posts with your rant/tirade. The post you quoted is entirely inappropriate to quote, and you should probably look back through the thread and quote a more appropriate response for your post.

But yes some of the things on this forum recently have been a little out of taste and inappropriate. Discussing a class and it's teacher's is NOT inappropriate on this forum. If a lecturer is dry, and boring and just reading their notes, how is that beneficial to me, and if asked I would tell them that, with no qualms!

Also, the largest complaints have been about MANDATORY classes (you cannot get up and leave). Anyways, not to sound like a jerk but, this is not LECOM, let us not turn it into it. So, if you are a teacher and you are reading this, take what you read with a grain of salt. If you are easily offended, then do not go on SDN.

Yep, like yesterday, was ridiculous. Today's first hour was very appropriate and I enjoyed it. 2nd hour I can read just fine thank you, just would of missed the songs.

Hey Jamers, the point was don't use vulgar/swear words when you speak about your teachers and colleagues. speak as like you are addressing fellow colleagues on rounds during your clinical years.

1) If you would take a moment you would see that I Quoted nobody.
2) Sure you can complain about a teacher/class but do it in an adult/professional way. Using profanity and sexual language does not make your case seem any stronger. And quite frankly (speaking as DMU COM student) you guys are griping and complaining more than any previous class. Cool it and try to find the "fun/enjoyment" in the fact that you now in medical school.

Oh yes, I fear someone taking me seriously on here and finding me in real life. Please, stop. If you came on here to make a point, you made it. Now, act your age and end it. There is no need for an argument, so don't start one. And, by the way, I use vulger language pretty much 24-7. **** should be included in normal converstations (it is typically American :-D).

1) Soundman was referring to the fact that you quoted JBone in your original post. It just made it appear as though it was that post you were going off about.

2) I agree about the language. I wouldn't miss the vulgarities.

3) Complaining about a boring mandatory class is fine. I'm complaining. It doesn't reflect my feeling about medical school or DMU in general. Just the class. I'm loving it here.

Although, I won't be back to Behavioral Med in a very long time. The next mandatory one is in september I think.

Dotsero said:

Oh yeah... I'm just curious. What are you basing this on? SDN activity? We are the only class in this place whose thread is active, other than the "super geniouses" thread.

Or is it on campus talk? Are you a student? Admin? 2nd year, or been at DMU for 5 years? I'm just wondering what that is based on.

Disclaimer: I'm not being sarcastic or trying to attack you... I'm just curious.

Hey Dotsero, thanks for the advice. 👍 I agree with the professionalism and it should be a part of what we do here at DMU. I LOVE THE SCHOOL!! But I feel that we have every right to fuss about a mandatory class that was/is basically pointless. That's all. I just dropped $30,000 for this year alone and I think I have the right to speak my mind. But I understand what your saying and I'll do my part to keep this forum productive and fun.

Going back to my original post (before I was torn into)...How do you study for Beh. medicine?? Any tips from the second years? Just want to know how to distribute my time and efforts. Thanks everyone.

BTW misparas, I just got my IOWA drivers license and can now officially drive a tractor (start the bluegrass music) Now I'm watching a preview of the Mountain West Conferece. Cougs are up next. Don't worry, I'm using the DVR. Call me and you can come over and watch it.

Love you guys,
J

No, you just remind me of my older brother (truck driver). Maybe you could be like A.T. and travel around doing care in the back of the truck?????

Edit: just realized you said TRACTOR...not tractor trailer...oh well, I guess I should lay off the bong water. But I flippin need it.

I studied for Beh med a little as I went along and did a lot of cramming at the end. Definitely worry more about Biochem and Anatomy at this point for a number of reasons including:
1. DMU has great faculty in those departments
2. The classes are a lot harder and on the whole more relevant for medical practice for anyone not going into psych.
3. You can learn everything you need to know about Beh Med for boards in 2 days, there's no real point having it be so long.

This is partially true, beware the DMU thought police! People who don't like what is said on here have a spineless way of going to the Dean's office to complain about what is said instead of being adults about it and either posting a rebutal or talking to you in person. Don't worry, they're the same ones who tattled to the teacher in 2nd grade when someone passed a note.

The funny thing is, this is an anonymous message board, while they can guess who is who, they can never prove it. Also, who cares if you get called to the Dean's office? Can they really reprimand you for thinking? Can you get in trouble for posting your thoughts on an anonymous message board that is not run by nor affiliated with the school? NOPE! It's a sad attempt at intimidation that seems to mostly have sprouted from some DMU students' desires to never have anything negative said about OMM and the blatant lack of research to support it.

As far as talking about classes, profs, and classmates try to keep it clean and mostly nice, however anyone who claims they've never had an un-nice thought about a prof, class, or classmate is either lying or comatose. But still, try to be mostly nice 😀

That's a load of manure the size of which has not been seen in these parts in some time. How do you guage how much a class complains? By posts with bad words in them?

Every class since the 2006 class has been told they complain more than any class before them. Is it true? Maybe. But until you complain so much you change the testing methods of an entire department because they are sick of hearing your class whine, you haven't beat the 09 class.

If the friend is the one I know, he had never even been to the site prior to getting called in by the DMU thought police. That's how pathetic the Thought police are, they would rather have someone get called into the Dean's office when they didn't even do the actions they're accused of than talk to them in person like adults. It's really sad actually. 🙁

I need to stop posting but this one has actual relavance haha. It is randomly my roomates 23rd bday and he cannot go out due to studying tonight. However, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in going out tomorrow night (around 10 or 11 I would think) to celebrate? For those of you that haven't met him, he is the kid that posts the strange pictures and chuck norris jokes (Ryan486). I haven't been out since I wasn't around for the week before orientation so I have no clue what the good bars are. Just if anyone is interested I thought it would be a good idea since we are all far from home and sometimes the little things really help.

Hey, Navy doc? You spend a lot of time on here for a third year year. What's up with that?

Dotsero said:

We don't start rotations until Sept 4th. Boards were months ago, not a whole lot else to do in Des Moines! 😀

Anyone watch UFC? There's a PPV this weekend I'm thinking about ordering... unless there's a bar somewhere that would carry it...? Any clues?

Another question, what about haircuts? Where's a good place to get my hair did? I'm not into the fru-fru $40 salons, just a decent barber shop. Insight appreciated!

I'm sorry but, I think that some of you guys are taking Dotsero post in the wrong way. He/she is not saying that "you guys better shut up or someone's gonna tell on you", what they are saying is just watch your mouth, be respectful, and ACT your age. They're trying to give you a "heads up" if you will about all the professionalism talks that will come later. Everyone in every class whines and complains at some point, but there's a certain point where it's drawing a line whether its on an annomynous board or just gossip in the bathroom. If you feel that it's necessary to complain in a vulgar way do it in your own home without it being recorded online. You may not think that what you say on SDN will come back to haunt you but it can. You can say "tattle-tale" or "it's my right" but really no one wants to hear that crap.

Just act like a respectful adult is all my point is. If you want to constructively complain and criticize a class/professor, you can ask the course secretary to be an evaluator of the course you desire.

The comments that you make on here could potentially influence future students on their decisions, just like I'm sure some of our other posts have previously influenced your choice. I'm not saying that DMU is a perfect school and by no means am I saying that every class is taught the way I feel is appropriate or to the best of my learning ability.

So I'm letting you know, that what you say/do in public, at a bar, in a private forum, on myspace.com, whatever, can potentially be brought back to where you attend class AND your entire class may have to sit through another discussion on professionalism that brings up examples that you could've contributed to. If you don't want to sit through another lecture like we had to all last year, then refrain from your VULGAR comments. Just as I have given previous advice on other topics from first year this is something that I feel I should address as well. Everyone knows who I am on here, so if you have a problem with my post or questions about why we are trying to make you aware of this, then you can IM or email me.

Don't act like the internet is your private curtain from the outside world.

Oh and about studying for Behavioral Med.........I read the book, it helped some but not me. I studied from the notes mostly, but I think there were study guides or something on Crutch that I utilized the most. If you guys haven't opened the Crutch CD you got from ACOFP...now would be the time!

Happy studying!!!!

Please, everyone. NO more professionalism talks. That is far more frightening than any biochem test.

I think everyone's good now, so let's all move on. Seriously, where is a decent hair place to get a decent cut (I'm not fancy, but I'd prefer something slightly above a "barber").

Go to bed dj. Just pounded 5 hrs on the CAC and PDH. Kill me.

Still at it...at least for just a bit longer. I've loved calling it CAC in college, and I still loving saying it to this day.

Speaking of going to bed... I knew I shouldn't have taken that nap.

See you folks bright and early.

Oh yeah... I need a haircut too.

The Hy-Vee in Windsor Hts (on University between 63rd and 72nd) used to have coupons for the Great Clips just east of there for $5.99 haircuts, but now it's 10% off of the $14 they charge ($1.40 off for all you non-math types which is still $12.60 which is way to much IMHO).

So that used to be a good deal. I haven't gotten my hair cut since I ran out of the $5.99 coupons a month and a half ago. I have a difficult time paying more than $10 for a haircut.
