This forum provides some cover for people like you who's parents may not have taken up enough time with them or whatever the case is for your lack of self esteem..By the way I was accepted into 2 M.D. programs and I still decided to take the D.O. route ....can you believe that??? If you must know it put me closer to family for my kids...and I felt it would be better with such a trying time to be close to family

Oh...PM me if you still need proof of my other two acceptances and I will try and scan them in for you to see. Sorry to bust your bubble that D.O.'s are just M.D. school rejects

is that why your GPA sucks???? For sure I know many students who are alone here, drive cabs and still manage to pull enough GPA to go to Pharmacy or Med school. How's working at a grocery store full time while doing pre-med. I still did it, I got into CCOM. Hope you don't use that as a reason to explain your low GPA.

Been there , done that. Not a US citizen, Divorced(nasty too), had nasty professors, survived on granola bars(from Aldi), worked almost 6 days/week doing labour job....Anything else u want to add to this list??????

Self-esteem definitely does exist. It doesn't come from others; it comes from within you. Trust me, I used to have very low self-esteem and I know the difference. It was only as I became more mature and proud of my accomplishments and of who I am that I learned what good self-esteem was. That doesn't make me a lunatic either. Stop being so cranky with everyone. This thread was just started as a light-hearted comment and it was not meant to offend anyone. So, relax, smile, and have a wonderful day!🙂

the above words are not only disturbing to me but to many ppl who got into med school with much lower GPA then mine.
I trully hope, for the sake of the patients, that you will never get to touch anyone as a doctor

Actually some people have been asked astronomy related questions on interviews, dont understand what that has to do with being a doctor. Its not like if you do not know the sun uses hydrogen for energy, you will not be a good doctor.

I wouldn't say one's immigrant status plays much of a role in admitting an applicant. I've lived in this country for ten years, so I speak from experience. I've had both rejections and acceptances from medical schools. I say this because I do speak another language as well, and my verbal MCAT score is slightly lower than other sections of the exam (11 vs 8). Some interviewers have asked me if I think my verbal score was lower because english is not my native language, to which my answer has always been "no". I feel this way because both bio and phy sections require a lot of reading and comprehension, yet I was fine with it.
Anyway, I say all this to say that immigrant status plays probably a very slight role in acceptances/rejections. Although I did always say that my gpa is high because I got an early start with a good primary school system in Russia 🙂
Unless you happened to be considered a disadvataged (financially, socially, etc) immigrant (I am a russian speaking armenian, so that never applied to me), I can't see any difference.

just to clear things up that "like to argue" poster has some delusion about me "using my immigrants status" for acceptance.
All i ever said was that i am an immigrant and had to work full time throughout the college.
i also do not thik that a gpa of 3.35 is as he called it "a low achevement"
and i hope he will get banned from this forum for another personal attack.
