So I was recently accepted into the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences program (IHS) at Drexel University College of Medicine. The Drexel IHS program was the only post-bacc style program that I applied to, but after doing my research I ran across several student doctor blogs that spoke poorly about the IHS program. My goal is to attend dental school, I have a solid DAT score, and I hope to increase my GPA credentials via the IHS program. So basically I am interested in hearing back from students that are currently considering the IHS program and from any students that have been enrolled in the program. This is intended to be an open ended discussion.....

Bump!

I recently got accepted too but I don't know a thing about it, except the bad reviews it's gotten here in the past. Any current/past students that can attest to how helpful this program has been for future med school applications?

Have you made your choice on attending this program or not?

I have also been accepted, but I'm not sure how well the program works out for students. I plan on applying to med school. In past threads, there does seem to be more negative reviews than positive ones... @INH , But if your goal is to just increase your GPA, I think you can do that with this program. But I would strongly consider the costs and other factors. Are you going to try to do IHS for 2 years to get the Masters? I feel like there are many alternatives if you just want to raise your GPA.

@CourageMD Have you also considered the program, or are you waiting to hear back from SMPs?
I'm waiting to hear back from some SMPs. I really wanted the DPMS program but got bumped to IHS. I'm still considering this program... but the description and reviews turn me off a bit. "This rigorous program allows students to explore career pathways in the health sciences other than medicine..." For me, I really want to see how many med students have been successful taking this route before dispensing money for this program lol.

Did you guys at least reserve your seat? Or has anyone decided to commit to this program?

Hi everyone. I was recently accepted into the IHS program as well. I originally applied for the MSP, but was put into the IHS. I am more than likely going to go, I'm still waiting to hear from a few other schools, but if I don't hear back soon I will be at Drexel. I really need to increase my science GPA before applying to med school, so I think this program will work for that.

I will be coming from California and have literally no idea where to live in Philadelphia. Do any of you know the city well? Any suggestions on areas to look for a place to rent would be great. I'd like a more affordable area (maybe a suburb of the city)? That isn't too far away from the campus. Thanks!

What were your stats, if you don't mind me asking?

And have you considered living in Stiles Hall? It's conveniently located just 5 minutes from the where lectures will be held.

Hello everyone,
I am a IMS student from last year. One of the biggest issues I, and many others, had when starting the program was finding a place to stay. I managed to find a really nice 3 bedroom apartment that is only 2 blocks from school, which made everything very convenient. I am staying in Philadelphia for another year and had a room available, so I thought I would ask you incoming IHSers if you were interested.

Some details:

-Brand new apt. I am literally the first person to have lived here. (the whole building is new).
-3 beds, 2 bath. One master room that has its own bathroom.
-$2000, but the bigger room is a bit more, so $740, $630, $630. It is near impossible to find a place in center city that is this close for this cheap.

Send me a message and I can give you more details, pictures, etc...

Good luck,
Mitchell

Hey all, I just got informed that I was bumped to IHS. I must admit I'm very disappointed, but appreciative of the acceptance. Just a little weary because I have not heard awesome things about the program. Idk what I should do.
