It's interesting cuz I just heard about that program from Burnsie like a day ago. Sounds like a really great program. It's funny cuz I was actually hoping to find a program like that and sure enough... there it is.

Yeah, Burns teaching sex ed makes us all fear for the poor children of Durham...

20 minutes in to HEY-Durham a certain curly-haired girl steps up. . .

"So have you kids ever heard of something called a 'Dirty Sanchez?' Raise your hands if you have! Don't be shy."

Look, someone has to show these kids what we're talking about, right? Consider it public service. Luckily, I have IHaveLab to help me balance out the two lovable conservatives in our group.

Hey, I think I answered all of those questions about anal sex with the utmost of decorum.

The diagrammes may not have been quite appropriate, IHL.

 Please tell me you are joking.

PS: Pagemma, are you British??? (diagrammes)

Three. 😛

Parents are British (Kent and Herefordshire), I was born in Australia (whee!), been in the US since I was 5.

And yes, I was kidding about the prior posts. I needed a giggle.

Whoa... that's awesome. Do you have any sweet accents???

Females, from interview day I remember a touch of an accent from you as well. I know your from Texas, but it definitely didn't seem Texan. Where abouts have you lived?

Well... I don't really have an accent. The only hint of Texas in my accent is that I say yall a lot. Other than that, I am Persian and I have lived in France, but I don't really think I have an accent. Are you sure you are thinking of the right person??? I think I actually sat either next to you or two spots from you at lunch and after the discussion at lunch was over, a group of like 4 of us was sitting there talking about the MD/MPH program... I think you thought that was a cool program if I'm not mistaken... and you were drinking lots of Dr. Pepper even though you light Diet usually. We also talked in the admissions office about Ohio State and Michigan. You were like, "Ya I just don't understand those Ohio State kids..." I rofled on that one.

How long in France? Is that where you spent early development years? As I said, I detected a bit of an accent (or rather, very proper anunciation which born and raised Americans are loathe to do). But I'm pretty sure I've put a poster with a face. You had on a navy windowpane suit, were from Texas, and the Duke interview was your first so you were a bit nerveous. Correct though, I do love Dr Pepper, and I was the guy who tried to (unsuccesfully) incospicuously point out to an interviewee that he'd better wash his face because it was covered in newprint from the paper he was reading.

LOL... ya I remeber the guy with the ink. I think you have me mixed up with the guy from Rice who was real big on the Duke-NUS program. I was the guy with kinda spikey hair, wearing a black suit with a dark blue shirt, white collar, and bright red tie. It was also not my first interview (it actually turned out to be my last). Um... I was the guy who was really bummed after his first interview cuz I thought it went terribly. Also, I walked in right as Richard Wallace was talking and some girl blurted out to me what did your interviewer ask and then Richard Wallace looks at me and is like "Don't tell her!" I was like... errrrr.....

Ah, I do have the wrong guy. Did you have on Argyle socks?

When I first met you on this board I think you said something about being "that asian-looking kid from Texas" (or maybe persian-looking) and I mistook you for the VERY asian-looking kid from Rice who was majoring in economics. Now I can place you perfectly, though. You sat right across from me at lunch and you had been hosted by one of our lunch-students. I totally remember you worried about that interview, and I remember the girl asking about your interview and being glad I wasn't the one who had asked.

The spikey-hair and blue-shirt / red-tie combo brings your face right back to memory.

Incidentally, I'm proud that the last few posts have been civil.

Argyle socks --> instant admission. I can think of at least two males in my class who own argyle socks, at least 5 who own at least one pair of madras short, and >4 who own at least one piece of seersucker, none of whom are of the more 'effeminate' nature. Prepster central, kiddies, prepster central.

Nope, no accents for me, unless you count saying both "hella" and "y'all". Norcal --> NC via Los Angeles makes for some weird dialectical swaps. 😕

And I'm sad I'm no longer involved in the "this is who I was" conversation. I suppose it's somewhat unfair for us MS1s to hijack the "waitlist" thread anyway. . . 😉

👍 👍 👍
Wore my lucky Agyles at every interview.

Although given the right context I might be a bit "efeminate" in nature...🙁

Is it bad that I do not know what Argyle socks are? I wear white cotton ones. And if I have to dress up, I wear black or gray ones... What the hell is Argyle? Maybe I would have gotten a scholarship if I would have worn them....darn...

You should post a picture of yourself, to remind them.

Gemma looks like this: :d except when she's around me. Then it's all 😍

Oh they're only powerful enough for admission, not scholarships. They're socks with the little diamond designs on them, but it's no worry if you aren't familiar with the term. Although, I do happen to avoid white tube socks like the plague...

I see, so it's a design....

and no white tube socks for me...ankle socks only

Now with spring approaching, (well, aproaching in Michigan, it's arrived in other areas) it is now time to go sockless with those boat shoes and driving loafers (and even with dress shoes!)

Ya you know who I am... I sat right next to you after my first interview and bitched and moaned about how I wasn't gonna get into Duke. Technically, I'm still right... but hopefully I will be proven wrong sometime soon. I am also glad that it is civil now.

You should post a picture of yourself, to remind them.

I was gonna post one of me with my beard and then me shaved with my acceptance if I had gotten in... so I'm still waiting for the acceptance to reveal myself 😀

This reminds me of all the frat guys at my school.

RW is in a great mood this morning, y'all. I'm not sure what that means, but if you're sitting on a LOI or update e-mail, today might be the day.

ah thats cruel. this process has taught me one thing: hope is dangerous and often times disasterous. As the BigTymers would say, "Everybody get your roll on.." ........ meaning, just roll with the punches and see what happens. No need for hope. Hope is illogical.

(think about it this way... all day people on the duke waitlist who read this site will be hoping hoping hoping to receive a phone call.... and when/if they dont receive one (which is likely since its not may 15th yet) a little part of them will die.)

Ya no one is getting a call today... I mean they already told us May 16th so... ya that sux. Glad that good ole RW is in a good mood though. I already sent an update this week though so I don't wanna send another one... I don't wanna seem annoying.

I didn't know there was another Big Tymers aka Cash Money Millionaires fan on this thread. "Hot lights, loud pipes, big rims, gold ice... V-12s are better, no itch strictly leather... Play-Station, D-V-D..."

Holla!

well, hyperbole is my friend. of course no real part of you would die inside, it just sucks to be disappointed. at least for me, anticipation of a decision is continuously irritating.

I meant if you've written an e-mail and haven't sent it yet, then maybe sending it in today might be good. Not that phone calls are happening today. 😕 Heck, it's not even May yet!

Diosa's just got her cranky pants on today because she spent last week in Miami instead of at school and is now not as up to date on her studying as she'd like to be. Ignore her and her double-long-Spring-Break-taking-self. 😛 😉

Ha, you and me both. I'm SO over first year... and we still have 2 1/2 months left.

Hang in there, Diosa! You can do it. Just think how nice it will be once you get into clinics... and then... the coveted third year (trips to Miami every weekend 😛 )

Sleep deprived and overworked diosa dealing with demanding patients all day? man, I feel sorry for her future roommate. 🙂

ok to be honest, I feel badly for the roommates of ANY of us next year...

Haha I feel bad for anyone that has to interact with me before like 10 am. Which will include anyone on just about any of my rotations. Esp surg.

*looks at post count* *looks at diosa & burnsie's post counts*

*has a private little "they're dorkier than I am" party*

OMG by two posts! Well, three now that I've written this. I'm going to stop posting until your post count goes above mine. 😛

PS - at least I don't check SDN in class

woot, MS1 partay! i'm actually looking forward to next year, finally a chance to use my people skills instead of staring at a computer screen all day.

plus, next year, i'll be of age! let's just hope i'm not going to be spending my 21st away on family med 🙁

2.5 more months guys, can you believe it?

wow.... post count, no contest 😛 if this were a class, i would have HONORED SDN!

How about honoring B+D for me. It is hanging right out of my reach taunting me like a bastard...
