I don't want to give his name, but he's working in a lab with me this summer. I tried to dislike him seeing as how I'm on the waitlist at Duke too, but he's too nice. I hate it when that happens.
 
Wow, I had to look on the second page for this thread... it must be the 337 people viewing the forum today with the AMCAS opening up.

Ryan, I also recall seeing a listing for a BYU student in the incoming class. Anything could still happen though.

Anybody know when we get more info from RW (bless him)? I'm trying to take care of details ahead of time - went to get all of my shots/titers today:

no books needed for molecules and cells, hopefully we'll have a lil handbook for your guys by the time you get here with book lists in it 🙂
 
Hey Doctor, Burnsie was tellin me that we can buy our books from M2s usually at a discounted price if you wanna do that.

Ryan, I said the BYU thing cuz I saw the BYU listing on the schools that were emailed to us by RW. Sorry, dude. You're still the man! I remember you made me feel so much better about myself after my first interview went less than stellar (to say the least) that day. Thanks again for that. 😍
 
Speaking of books: I've got the Histo, the Anatomy, and the immunology texts if anyone wants them. My copy of "Human Structure" is old and beat up so I'll sell that for cheap. I bought Histo used so that'll be cheap too, but the Immuno I bought new and it only has a little bit of highlighting. 😉 I also have a copy of the Thompson & Thompson "Genetics in Medicine" text if anyone wants that one. PM for pricing. SDNers get first dibs! Also: I have ALL of my notes since day 1, for every lecture, which are in nice 10 pt font outline form, if anyone feels like giving me some $$ for that.

You know what? Duke or not, I'll be proud to be your colleague. You are just about the only person that I remember for not being weird. That, and weren't we just about the only people who weren't from Penn, Harvard, MIT, or Princeton? That statement abour happy to be colleagues applies to everybody here.You all are so supportive, and it really echoes the feelings I had from the student body when I was actually at my interview. Sure, we had a few tools on Nov. 30th, but there were some cool people, too. It really restores my faith in humanity, and reminds me why it is worth it to try and be my best.

I never refused! I just said I'd be somewhat embarassed and didn't want to make anyone feel weird and then dislike me for it. Considering I'm usually the one sending out e-mails about parties and stuff, I'd have to hand the job to you on that one.

Carleton College has a special place in my heart as the very first college to send me a recruitment letter in high school. When I opened it, I was so honored I really thought they wanted ME. Then, the next day came the onslaught of generic letters, with the overall letter winner being Wash U in St. Louis by about 100-fold.

I grew up in the mountains of NC and worked there at a camp for obese kids two summers ago - you will love the Great Smoky National Park. It would be cool if you could detour a little north afterwards to ride through Asheville, Boone, and then along the famed "Blue Ridge Parkway" - of course, you can hit I-40 right out of the park as well to go straight to Durham.

Your trip sounds like a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to Duke myself because of all the forests, hiking, running trails, gardens, etc. (not that we'll have much time for them, it would seem).
 
There's a lovely 3 mi loop around the golf course near the Washington Duke inn.
 
Thanks, Pagemma - I'll be sure to check it out. The doctor I interviewed with at Duke insisted that I stop running on concrete and told me that I had to come to Duke so I could run thru the gardens, so I'm psyched. Evidently he still runs 3 miles a day there and he's over 70.

Also, I've been wondering for several months now... your avatar name... is it a play on words for pajama pants combined with "paging my pants"? Forgive me if this is obvious.
 
Hahaha, nope, doesn't have anything to do with paging my pants, all though there will be a lot of that next year. It's a play on "pajama pants" and my first name , which a) is decidedly British and b) is the same name as a certain model (it's an unusual name; that should really be enough information). People sometimes just call me 'pants.
 
Naty, that sounds like quite a journey. How long before your actual arrival date in Durham are you going to leave to accomplish all of that?

1. Born and raised in Miami (Cuban, like everyone else there). Went to MIT for undergrad.
2. dark aqua (i know, it's random, but I i just bought a shirt this color and realized it's always been my favorite color)
3. pao de queijo (brazilian cheese bread)
4. working to raise money to buy a car and make this huge move to Durham from NYC.
5. My boyfriend once told me I look like George. Naturally, I was furious as I think George is quite H.E.I.N.O.U.S!.. :barf:

I identify most with McDreamy.

Two people call me 'pants on a regular basis. 😛 And no, haven't been sans pants since the spring fling pre-party! And that was just me+diosa+2 other ladies. Nothing they haven't seen before.
