ECU/UNC acceptance/rejection thread

2 years and 14 interviews later, finally got the call.

UNC 2-23 accepted (sorry can't remember interview date.. couple weeks ago)
 
Honestly, I don't remember the students who did my tour. It was two girls both went to UNC undergrad one had brown hair and one had blonde hair. Were you touring students on 1/22?

Congrats to those who were accepted to UNC...do you think that they always call or do they send a letter instead?

I think it depends on the interviewer. I got a phone call and then a letter acceptance a few weeks later.

thanks girls for the information. I enjoyed both UNC and ECU very much when I toured. The students were really friendly, something which is very important to me in considering where I want to go to medical school.

Good luck to everyone, and who knows, we may be classmates soon. I will keep the group posted on when I hear from UNC and ECU (I am also waiting from GW too...the agony..its getting painful). 😳 now it is just about more options!!

In Durham, and work at Duke this year. I'm not ruling out other possibilities, but I'm 99.9% sure it'll be UNC. Go Heels!

I wanna know too. I interviewed so long ago that I can pull my hair back into a ponytail. And I'm a guy, when I interviewed my hair was short! just kidding but man I'm ready to know....Good luck to everyone!!!!
 
I think we are all in the same boat. I have a sick feeling from reading people's post that we should hear in the next two weeks. Keep your fingers crossed!!
 
I can't say the same for UNC, but genearly speaking, no news is good news for ECU. And they take A LOT of people off the waitlist.

UNC is a bit more unpredictable...no news is really just no news. But they don't have nearly as much waitlist movement as ECU does.

I pretty much ditched all the other schools that I applied to because I think if i don't get into UNC I'm waiting another year (I'm already taking a year off as it is....working as an EMT in Chapel Hill / Hillsborough).

I'm going to the Dominican Republic to do some backpacking and photography from Feb 28 (this saturday) until March 30, so I guess I'm not going to know until I get back. (cant complain about the trip though).

Does anyone know if they will email you if you get in in addition to the call? can they leave a message with whoever picks up the phone if they call?

I havent even gotten one of those "waiting til march 15 to tell you" letters ....

Actually, last year my good news from ECU arrived in a thin white envelope. So you never know.

Just thought I'd pass on the word that UNC is definitely still interviewing...a group of interviewees poked their heads into our class today

I called the ECU office this week, and the secretary said that the committee meets in 2 weeks. I asked her if many rejections or acceptances have been given out, and she said that no responses have been sent. She mentioned that they have to go through all the interviews before deciding. Obviously she is either misled or thinks I'm stupid. The majority of them may still be in a waiting game (that's what this is), but some people are getting an answer sooner. I wish I was one of them.

I tried to sound like I need an answer, by stating that my wife is pregnant (due in 2 months) and we need to find out what is going to happen next year. I also mentioned needing to sell a house soon, but she wasn't convinced. Oh well.

I'll keep waiting. I guess I don't need to check my mailbox for another 2 weeks.
 
TLCoolJack--

Have you sent any additional letters to the ECU office? Something they can physically put in your file explaining why you want to go to ECU? They're big on that, so if you're big on ECU then send them a letter!

While there have certainly been acceptances and rejections so far, there won't be any more until the committee meets again. They really do go through every application at every committee meeting, which is why committee meetings are spaced out. While this means high anxiety for the people having to wait, it also means that you have time to put other things in your file before you get reviewed again.

Good luck, y'all!!! I know the waiting process is crappy-- trust me; I interviewed in September and didn't hear back until April-- but no news really is good news from ECU!

I'll try and send a LOI this week. I did go on a medical missions trip in January, and I sent a letter explaining what I did as more experience. I do want them to know that ECU is my first choice.

Hey sweet tea, where are the cheap yet safe places to live around chapel hill? Or not around chapel hill yet on the bus line? Oh, and congrats on getting in ECU last year, I was rootin' for you (after I got my thin envelop and was no longer hoping to get that open spot)

Hmmm..."cheap" is a relative term in Chapel Hill. I lived in Kingswood while I was in undergrad, and I highly suggest that you NOT live there. It was cheap, but not so much safe.

Several of my friends that are in med school (or other grad schools) at UNC bought condos and rented out the extra bedrooms to their friends, and that seemed like the best way to go (for both the renters and the owners). There's really not much in the way of cheap housing in Chapel Hill. I love CH, but so does everyone else and it's really expensive. 🙁

Congrats on your acceptance. I also interviewed on 1/23, can I ask who you were. I was the girl with short black hair from Yale. Anyway, did you get a phone call or a letter. I am still waiting to hear, hopefully before I leave for spring break!!

they didn't call me. I called them sometime in the afternoon.
From what I heard, they mostly call in the evening (6~7 or so).

so you just called them up and asked them whats your status, and they told you over the phone that you've been accepted?

VERY good question! I've been wanting to know as well.

When my interviewer called to tell me I had been accepted, he also told me that he was "putting me through" for a merit scholarship. But that was back in October, and I haven't heard anything since. My FAFSA has been complete since 1/14.

FYI: UNC has two more committee meetings. They are on the 3/8 and 3/22. These are the final meetings so you should hear either way in the next few weeks. Good luck to those who are waiting.
 
How do you know they are on 3/8 and 3/22? I remember the admissions committee saying they meet on thursdays. those two dates don't fall on thursdays.
 
I think 3/8 and 3/22 (both Mondays) sounds about right.

their last meeting was 2/23 (also a Monday)

The committee meets on Mondays. Straight from the horse's mouth. They always meet on Monday and if you are lucky they will email or call you that evening. Good luck to all waiting.
 
Do they always call if you are accepted? If you don't get a call, does it mean you are not accepted? How does it work?
 
My understanding is that it's their policy to call. It may work out that your interviewer is too busy/lazy to call that night, then forgets about it, but they're supposed to call.
 
What about ECU? Anyone heard anything? They are still my top choice and I'm curious if anyone else knows anything....thanks!
