Edward Via - Carolina Campus (VCOM-CC) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think there is only one secondary for all 3 campuses so you should be good to go!
Not sure how that works since I applied VC, submitted VC secondary, and then applied CC. I thought you still have to apply to each campus through AACOMAS and they use the same secondary prompts, thus "one" secondary, but you still have to return the secondary to the specific campus.
I'm confused.
@soccermac42 care to provide any insight?

Hey, I read your posts. It's one main system. I applied to all 3 campuses and ranked them in my secondary. Then received an II from CC and was accepted first week of October. If you applied via AACOMAS and already submitted your VCOM secondary, then you should be good to go. It's one secondary for all 3 campuses, not 3 separate ones. ACCOMAS just allows each campus to see your app. So CC should have access if your AACOMAS is completed.

Awesome great thanks!

Awesome great thanks!
Yeah she is on point with that. It is slightly confusing on how they go about ti, but I guess it makes it easier for them to decide where they would like to interview you at.

Congrats to everyone accepted!!! Does anyone know if VCOM enforces attendance? I've seen a couple of threads but I get contradictory information 🙁 If it came up on any interview or if anyone had a reliable answer, well, that would be awesome! 😀 Thanks in advance!!!

In the interview they said 85% attendance mandatory

I declined my interview here because I have other options, but good luck to everyone and I hope my spot goes to one of you!

Congrats on newly accepted people! PM for the Facebook group link 🙂

To everyone accepted... Are you definitely attending or still looking at other options. And why?

I'm trying to make my own decision and would love outside opinions

I am DEFINITELY attending. VCOM has been my first choice since day 1, so it was a done deal as soon as I got the acceptance call! For a million reasons, but some are residency match rate (especially into PC), global health opportunities, community outreach, curriculum, volunteer opportunities, early clinical experience, sim lab, awesome faculty, board pass rates, the school's environment feels like one big family. It was hard to leave there after getting that rush of excitement to attend. So glad to be attending next summer!

Does anyone know the exact rules for the Dec 15th deposit deadline? Does the check need to be postmarked by Dec 15th or received by dec 15th

I am having trouble finding a DO to shadow and write me a letter. I emailed admissions and they are being nice about it, but DO's in my area are not so much :/.

PS. This is post-acceptance

Where are you from? Maybe someone in your area can help set you up!

Have you tried calling PCOM-GA? Normally Osteopathic schools will help you find a DO or offer a faculty member to shadow

Do you think that they would be ok with me saying like "Hey, would allow me to shadow one of your physicians so that they can write me a letter and help solidify my seat at VCOM?"

Lol I think that may not work that well for me.

Well don't say it that way.. Say you want to learn more about osteopathic physicians and would love to shadow one. Then after meeting the doctor ask if he'll write you a letter of recommendation for DO school. You never have to say that you are only considering vcom

Well I would never phrase like that, but I am pretty sure on the instructions VCOM would like the letter sent directly to them. If I have to though, I will go and ask them to upload it to AACOMAS and then ask VCOM to pull it from there. But I think sending it directly to VCOM would make things much simpler.. if I can find someone.

I would try calling DO's in your area and specifically saying to them when youre asking if they can shadow that you have been accepted into an osteopathic medical school and would like to shadow one before attending. I think that would help your case.

Hey--I'm a current first year here. Same thing happened to me. Use this website: http://www.osteopathic.org/osteopathic-health/pages/find-a-do-search.aspx to find all the DO's in your area. And call every single one. I called about twenty before one finally said yes. Typically your family doctors are more willing to let you because they have the freedom to have students. One of the physicians here that is now our teacher had the same thing and she told the story of calling every single DO in the phone book. As discouraging as it is, someone will say yes!

Interviewing here on December 7th and super excited! Can anyone walk me through how the interviews go?

Congrats! The interview itinerary they email to you will help you with the layout but the actual individual interviews are conversational. They want to get to know you and why you're going into medicine. Like what motivates you? Why DO? Make sure you convey those things in your interviews. They'll address any weak areas and be prepared to defend them, if you have any. The interview was a great experience and I was blown away by their program and faculty! Hopefully you'll feel the same way. Best of luck 🙂

For those of you recently accepted, PM me for the accepted students Facebook link or search on Facebook: "VCOM Carolinas Class of 2020" and request to join!

Very hard decision to make, but just recently turned down my acceptance to this school. I have decided to stay closer to family as this is an important aspect to me. I think this school can offer future students everything plus more that they need to succeed so I wish the c/o 2020 much success.

Hello Friends,

First off, I want to thank all of the people who have been regularly posting to this forum. I have been lurking for months, and you guys have been a great help to me personally.

Secondly, I interviewed here on December 3rd, and I was just wondering if anyone knows roughly what their acceptance rate is post interview? I have interviewed a few other places, but VCOM CC is definitely my top choice, so I am anxiously awaiting the results of the interview.

Any input would be greatly appreciated and congratulations to all of you who have been accepted, I know you all deserve it!

Congrats on the interview 🙂 If I recall correctly, their admissions committee meets every 3 weeks to make those decisions and you will likely find out the same day they meet. Depending on when you interviewed with regards to their committee schedule, it could be anywhere within 3 weeks from your interview date. Hope this helps. Best of luck!

If you don't mind me asking, where did you accept?

Thanks! I actually emailed the admissions office and they sent me VCOM alumni contact information in my area and have already set up a day and time to shadow someone!

To all those newly accepted: congratulations and join the accepted Facebook page! VCOM Carolinas Class of 2020

Applying to their post bac too just in case. Anyone else do this? Any current/past students do the post bac that could give their experience with the program?
