If only there was an option for non surgical podiatry, then we wouldn’t have this demand for fellowships to backfill poor training from residency
At this point less and less about poor training and more about marketing and getting a better job....

Narrator: they don't get a better job. But hey, it's about the friends we made along the way.

Podiatry fellowship was legitimate now it has become so watered down with every possible attending and program starting their own fellowship that podiatry RESIDENCY training has become completely compromised. The fellowship effect has been neutralized by the abundance of graduates. You got fellowship trained podiatrists jointing private practice jobs. It is at the point that private practice jobs are seeking only fellowship trained podiatrists. This is how ridiculous it has gotten.

Hospital jobs are truly word of mouth at this point in time. If you have colleague who likes you currently working at a hospital and they open a another job they will 1000000% choose their colleague over these fellowship trained orthoplastic reconstructive foot and ankle surgeons.
yup the fellowship at St. Johns wound care is joke. DONT GO THERE

Had an attending associated with our residency who did a top tier fellowship who was working a PP associate job with verbal promises of eventual partnership. A few months back the guy messaged me asking if there were any openings where I’m at because his boss backed out of giving him partnership (shocker).

From what I have seen their graduates do pretty well/get good jobs.
Agree most go on to do well. It also seems to help fill his associate jobs if one wants to live in Chicago. Have heard the track to partner though is fairly difficult.

Yeah, I assume have to have be a private equity bro. Patagonia vest critical.

Can't blame a young pod for trying to stand out - job market is as dry as diabetic foot skin

I guess there are some of those ACFAS and Arthrex/Stryker/medical device training courses out there - especially reasonable if your program has CME money for you. I've seen people put them down on their resumes/profiles similarly to the Bako mini-fellowship, and while it's good to keep learning, the way they're listed definitely makes them give off the same energy...
