I have CPE in april 2011. Is there anyone taking the exam about the same time who can study with me.

hi i am vet graduate d from india . whole of my schooling is from convent school the medium of instruction is english . my question is it necessary for me to prove my English competency through TOEFL or IELTS . i had cleared TOEFL 5 years back is that scores valid if i want to register now.

Hi, I'm new about all the boards exams here in America, I graduated from Veterinary Medicine in 2006, but I've not experienced, because as soon as I finished school, I started working at a pharmaceutical veterinary company, so I lost lots of experienced and I forget a lot too 😕. I moved to Oklahoma (from Peru) just 6 months ago, and I tried to enroll at OSU as a transfer, but it's not possible. So I've only 2 options, or do the whole 6 years again or take the board exam.
I've been searching and I still don't know what I need to do, the ECFGV or NAVLE or PAVE or CPE, or all of them... I'm kinda lost. Can anybody please guide me? What should I do first?
It would be awesome if could work here as a veterinary assit. or tech., but it's so hard to find a job without an american certification or any american references. In the last 3 months I've been aplying for everything that I found, and I recieved only 2 unsuccesful interviews. If anyone works in Oklahoma, please let me know if there's a job opportunity. I wanna learn and practice so bad. I miss my career.

Thank you all!

Ok, I read a lil more and now I know that I do need to take the ECFGV no matter what and that CPE is part of this exam. Also I found out that some states requires the NAVLE, but for Oklahoma is not necessary and that PAVE is a new program that replace ECFGV. Am I right?

Yes there is a book for is, a CPE course, but as far as I heard the video is not available anymore,
If you need the book let me know

I am a vet graduate from India and recently moved to california. My query is which is more easier and beneficial PAVE or ECFVG?Please can anyone guide me on this?

One of the Vets i talked In US told me that Banfield is not hiring foreign Veterinarians anymore..please put some light on this.Thank you.

Hi, can anyone tell me the steps from a foreign school to US Practice. I am a USA student, will start Ross in May. I am in hopes of transferring into one of 2 US Vet schools after 2 semesters. But if not, just as in medical school- there is the USMLE, Step 2, and Step 3. In the Vet area, what is the path of exams, requirements for license in the states? Thanks very much!🙂

In 2010, 274 ECFVG certificates were awarded to graduates of more than 75 different veterinary schools in approximately 40 different countries. Since the inception of the current certification program (January 1, 1973) through December 31, 2010, the ECFVG has awarded more than 4,900 certificates.

Between January 1 and March 30, 2009, 133 new candidates have registered in the ECFVG program, and 40 candidates were awarded ECFVG certificates. Since the inception of the current certification program (January 1, 1973) through December 31, 2009, the ECFVG has awarded more than 4,700 certificates.

From January 1 through December 31, 2008, 414 new candidates registered in the ECFVG program. During that same time, 292 candidates completed the program and were awarded ECFVG certificates. Thirty-eight percent of those awarded certificates are native-born citizens of the United States and 62% are native-born citizens of other countries. Total number of certificates awarded since 1965 exceeds 4,500.

From January 1 through September 11, 2007, 320 new candidates registered in the ECFVG program. During that same time, 274 candidates completed the program and were awarded ECFVG certificates. Thirty-three percent of those awarded certificates are native-born citizens of the United States and 67% are native-born citizens of other countries. Total number of certificates awarded since 1965 exceeds 4,300.

From January 1 through December 31, 2006, 456 new candidates registered in the ECFVG program. Twenty-nine percent are native-born citizens of the United States and 71% are native-born citizens of other countries.During that same time, 371 candidates completed the program and were awarded ECFVG certificates. New certificate holders are graduates of more than 71 different veterinary schools in approximately 40 different countries. Total number of certificates awarded since 1965 exceeds 3,900.

From January 1, 2005 through December 21, 603 new candidates registered in the ECFVG program. The new candidate population is diverse, having graduated from more than 75 different non-AVMA/Council on Education-accredited veterinary colleges in more than 40 countries around the world. Twenty-one percent are native-born citizens of the United States and 79% are native-born citizens of other countries.During that same time, 343 candidates completed the program and were awarded ECFVG certificates. This is the greatest number of certificates awarded in a single year since the original certification program began in May 1965. New certificate holders are graduates of more than 75 different veterinary schools in approximately 40 different countries. Total number of certificates awarded since 1965 exceeds 3,600.

From January 1, 2004 through December 7, 621 new candidates enrolled in the ECFVG program. Although the year is not yet over, this represents an increase of 32%, compared with 2003 enrollment. The new candidate population is diverse: new candidates are graduates of more than 100 different non-AVMA accredited veterinary colleges in more than 60 countries around the world. In addition, 33% are native-born citizens of the United States.During that same time, 249 candidates completed the program and were awarded ECFVG certificates. New certificate holders are graduates of 73 different veterinary schools in 36 countries. Again, although 2004 is not yet over, the number of certificates awarded thus far exceeds the number awarded in any previous year and represents a 16% increase, compared with certificates awarded in 2003. Total number of certificates awarded since the current ECFVG program was initiated on January 1, 1973 now stands at 3,023.

Time to certificate:

As of January 2010, 203 of the 434 candidates who initially registered in the program in 2007 have been awarded ECFVG certificates and 91 are no longer actively enrolled in the program.
Time from registration to certification for these 203 candidates was as little as 5 months and as long as 32 months.

39 of the 203 certificate holders who initially registered in 2007 (19%) completed the ECFVG program within 12 months of initial registration;
129 (64%) completed the program between 12 and 24 months of initial registration, and
35 (17%) completed the program between 25 and 36 months of initial registration.

Individual results for new candidates may differ due to a number of factors unique to each candidate.

Hello everyone.
I got a quick but important question for you guys who have taken the CPE: What do you guys use to study from? I got the manual and I understand that I will be questioned about what it is in there..... the problem is that you can get asked almost everything??? I would like to know the sources you used to focus on the "sections" for the exam. I know Merck is great for BCSE and NAVLE actually that is what I used for those exams, but for the CPE??

Thanks in advance

I recently passed the NAVLE and now I am selling my VCRC books

One of the Vets i talked In US told me that Banfield is not hiring foreign Veterinarians anymore..please put some light on this.Thank you.

I also heard that. Banfield is no more hiring Foreign Educated Vets. They prefer US Citizen / US permanent residents.

It's a bit more complicated than that, Doesn't matter what nationality you have, if you have Have ECFVG and pass NAVLE, then you only need to pass the state exam where you intend to work. However you need work visa, Again it doesn't matter if you are from Canada, being Canadian allow you to enter USA easily as visitor but you can't work without work visa. H1B1 are very easy to get but you first need an employer who want to hire you, then you need to be willing to pay the fee which can be very expensive if you hire attorney and lastly you have to wait at least a year to get the visa because they only give 50 000 H1B1 a year in the U.S , so if you apply this year it will be for the 2012 visa, you should find the employer and have all paper work ready so when they open the registration for the visa you will be the first to get it.... your advantage is that you can come to USA as visitor and meet employers, interview, that's all. I recommend that you work in Canada for a while and get experience this way you might find employer willing to put up with paperwork hassle. But my best advice is that you finish all the exam and then apply for internship in USA, this will be easier visa to get, you will be paid anywhere from 20-40 K a year but this will give good chance to find employer
and maybe the place you intern in will hire you if they like you, 70 % of hiring happens due to long term personal contact , like interning or externing...

one thing at a time...

I agree with you Dr. Meanwhile i am preparing for CPE , and after that want to work as small animal vet in Ontario,CANADA. I am not so much interested to work in USA, I love Canada , and veterinary medicine profession is well paid here also. But i am interested in Internship, especially in 'small animal internal medicine', I dt know how hard is to get into that. Currently i am thinking about CPE exam and working in CANADA. After that, i will think about applying for Internship in the US. I also heard that, for foreign citizens, it is a bit hard time to get a job offer, and to get sponsorship for H1B from US employer.

if you are a canadian citizen, you don't need a h1b visa. You need somebody from USA to give you a job, and with that contract you go directly to the border to get a NAFTA visa
you will have to renew the NAFTA visa every year, but once you have it you can apply for a green card. So all you need it's to find a job

Canadian Citizens can work in USA on TN work permit for maximum of 3 years, their is no requirement for sponsorship, as required for H1B. H1B holders can apply for US green card. Long waiting time for green card process, especially for Chinese, Indians. (many years more than 12 years someone told me).

HI everybody!

I am foreign veterinarian and starting preparation for BCSC. Anyone likes to do group study. Thanks

UNAM and Ross got accredited by AVMA. Does this mean less opportunities for ECFVG Vets in US now ???At least Banfield the largest employer of ECFVG vets will not be that generous now and so whats the future of ECFVG program??UNAM has a class of 400 vet students (accreditation 2011-2017),so this means that there will be atleast 350-600 vets eligible to work in US from Mexico and Ross..Bad news for other foreign graduates who want to come to US on H1B after ECFVG. I guess Banfield would not be so happy to do the H1B now when they can get vets from Mexico .Anybody knows will this accreditation of UNAM will start with 2011 batch or students before 2011 batch also. Please your thoughts on this..Thanks.

Good news for Ross DVM graduates. But almost all Ross DVM's are US citizens. So they dt need any H1B. Yes, they can now get their license faster. Banfield hesitates to hire veterinarians on H1B. Why they need to hire non-US Citizens on H1B, if they already have US Citizen veterinarians candidates (It does not matter for them, if you are one of 28 US vet DVM graduate or Ross DVM graduate / or any other Carribean vet school graduates. What matters for them is - Are you US Citizen or US permanent resident , because they are no more willing to sponser ECFVG vets on H1B. Mexican citizens also need H1B visa to work in USA. Mexicans vets have no advantage as compared to other foreign national vets.

Banfield spent 10 million US for UNAM clinics for accreditation for all the good reasons i guess. Mexicans and Canadian professionals can apply for TN visa which makes them apart from HIB visa candidates.

This is my 2nd or 3rd post asking about the VCRC book for CPE exam? I know some of you guys have used or at least seen it. my question is: Is it worth it to get it, or better of to stay away from it?
Please I know there is more people asking the same question and until now nobody has answer it.

Thanks a lot.

for BCSE preparation which books you are going to use?
mean thos books have published by mosby or saunders?

could you plz tell me about the content difference between BCSE and NAVLE examination?

Hello everyone!! I took the BCSE on Nov 29th. (Still waiting for the results)
About the exam I just can tell that it is not an easy exam. I studied more than 6 hrs/day for almost 3 months and I still did not find it easy.
I used NVMS, Merch, Mosby's Review for Veterinary Technicians, UFlorida videos and Zuku Review.

I really recommend an intense preparation.. Do not underestimate the BCSE and try to focus on Clinical Pathology and Pharmacology.

I hope I had helped you... I will let you know about my score..

Yolanda

Hello All,

I have completed 6 out of 7 sections in CPE.
I was just wondering how far the chances for an international student getting in to a residency program. What programs are usually available, I mean more chances for being accepted.
Usually what are the things that are considered (all basic informations are greatly appreciated and I believe it will be very useful for residency aspirants)
Also about any internship opportunities

All ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks👍🙂

dear all,
I will take my QE in Sep. This would be my third time. I am in NJ.
I quit my job last week so that i can focus on study.
I want to have somebody to form a small study group so that we can ask questions and have a study plan.
It could be on skype or msn.
