Hey @Crayola227 I kinda know what I'm doing 🙄 .... Can I help with your Battlestar game?

Totally!

I'm going to get to modatee on the Dubz noobz game which will help me get experience. I'm still new-ish to WW so I wasn't planning on doing this too soon, plus I want to put a lot into the development since it's such a great theme.

I want to use mechanics that really mesh with the show themes, so I need help there. So I'll definitely need help figuring out how to "run" the numbers for the stats, and making sure it's balanced and all that. It sounds like there are apps people use for WW playing and moderating that I wish I knew about. I found a nice phone timer app for keeping up on deadlines and such.

What timezone are you? I'm PST so it makes closing nights and posting results a challenge, otherwise I have a lot of time to devote to developing and running this.

I kinda want to do this like this one sci-fi JDH game I played, it was really intricate, like a story plot and a puzzle with clues in write ups, some of the write ups for deaths and such he did even before the game

Can everyone give me an idea of a good time to run the Smash Bros game? Hoping to run it over winter break or only shortly into the start of the semester... mostly, I can accommodate up to like 60 people and want to use as many roles as possible for my first game so I lose my mind moderating. <3

Hmm let me try to figure out when the nooblets want to play and then it'll give you a better idea of the timeline. Remember there will be a lounge game going on at some point too and people might not want to double up on regular games. Idk when that game is supposed to happen yet.

KD is gonna help me not die 😀 Honestly, I'd be happy with a smaller game too, I just have big, ambitious ideas in my head, so I'm just trying to figure out when to have this done by.

I think the problem we've been arriving at lately is that everybody wants to run a game over winter break/the holidays because a) they're free and b) a lot of the players are free. Unfortunately that means people are clamoring to run games all in the same time slot and are having a hard time not double booking games.

@finnickthedog and I have had dibs for months 😉😛

Moving this up because most of the things that we have left to do are cosmetic (like ya know, actually writing role descriptions).
I can start running the game as early as the 16th so I'm not sure if I should post signs up like a couple days before that or just wait until the 15th when I'm done with finals. Don't know. Will mull it over.

Looks like the lounge game is supposed to start 12/26 if you didn't see that post. So I think when you want to your game will depend on how long the Michigan game goes. Don't really need to worry about the noob game unless you wanted to wait until after it's done so you can get more players.

So maybe early January would be best?

Thank you <3 I'll plan for around then. Might run after the noob game.

Ugh. Please, no. Not 60 people.

Yeah, don't do 60 people. You won't even remember who all is playing and neither will the players. It gets chaotic and to be honest, obnoxious and not fun. No one can keep up or realize who is who or what is going on. Already hard enough to catch up after work with 25 players in a game.

I did a 40 player game as a moderator once and that was a giant ****ing mistake. And yes, they all had roles. Plus I had 24 items in that game as well.

Don't do it, it is more of a disaster and not fun. I won't even sign up for games that get over 25-30 people anymore simply because of the chaos and how difficult it is to keep track of everyone and how difficult it is to catch up.

Didn't STL do a game with over 40 people? I think it was the OitNB game, and there was much groaning about the size of the game.
Yeah we did OitNB at 40ish. Incredibles was also close to that. He likes his large games, I refuse to run a game that is over 30 people anymore and even then I want to kill everyone.

The amount of horror-filled responses I've gotten from a single sentence fills me with glee.

For someone who hasn't modded, it shouldn't fill you with glee. It should make you take pause and reconsider. Seriously.

I agree with whoever said the sweet spot is mid-20's. Even less is good, too. But more than that .... you get too many mod mistakes, it's too hard to really evaluate everyone and keep people straight as a player, so you get a higher number of "shrug, gotta vote for someone, RNG lynch ....", it's exponentially harder to balance because of the number of PRs in play, the game goes on too long .... so it just leads to an overall crappy game. It's not "cool chaos" like it sounds like it might be.

I mean, whatever. You want a 60-person game, go ahead! No rules about it. I'd probably sit it out, though.

Prediction if you do it: You'll find it incredibly unbalanced one way or another, and mid-game you're going to be making some behind-the-scenes changes to try and 'steer' it toward a closer finish.

And ..... that one time SOV ran a kinda dual game thingy with two games going on simultaneously that were interconnected, that may have approached it, right? I can't remember - only have vague fuzzy recollections.

Or am I making that up completely??

That may have been before my time, doesn’t sound familiar.

Was that 15 players or 20 in each game? I don't remember. I just remember being stupid confused because I was the only "wolf" in the one game or something like that...trying to domesticate the other animals then I got transported to the other game and I don't even know what was going on. I still don't.

We also were close to 40 in Noobies vs Boobies I think, but it made sense for the way that game was structured

no, no. I didn't mean the glee thing about the chaos that this game could be; I just found everyone's reactions amusing. Don't get me wrong, I definitely am taking everyone's advice into consideration. And that's definitely why I have KD helping keep me in line. It'll probably actually turn out to be a relatively normal game when things are all said and done; I just have big dreams.

You may also struggle to find 60 people who want to sign up for a 60 person game in the first place. Just saying.

Maybe someone already said that. I don't know. I'm tired.
Definitely wouldn't be dependent on actually having 60 characters; it was just a preliminary exclamation of the fact I could accommodate that many people. Let me have my big dreams that don't come to fruition. 😛
