I got my secondary from GW a while back, but I'm not sure if I want to fill it out. Is GW better than the less prestigious PA schools (not pitt or penn)? I'm a PA resident.

Bump.

I'm also interested to see how GW compares to your average state school.

Not much better...GWU is a good school, but I would put it rather average in terms of the grand scheme of things. If I were to choose between GW and a state school, I would definitely go with the state school (esp since PA has good state funded med schools). Plus GW is more expensive that state schools. hope that helps.

Factors to consider are that GW has brand new facilities, Level 1 Trauma center, lots of undergrads and is only a few blocks from the White House.

But if cost is a big factor......

State school hands down. I'm in at my state school, and I am waiting for my GW correspondence. Whether I am accepted or placed on the alternate list (or rejected in which case I don't have to do anything 😉 ), I'm gonna withdraw... I couldn't turn the interview down since I didn't have an acceptance at that point. If you have the $$ to live in DC I guess you could go for it, but I would honestly pick Temple and Jefferson over GW any day of the week. I think they have better reps, not to mention that they are slighly less expensive since you'd be living in Philly than DC. GW's hospital is amazing though, so that could be a very strong perk if you attended, although it'd probably be more fun to do residency there. Just my 2 cents, hope no one is offended! It's really a money issue from me. I'm also from the Philly area, so I may be biased as per the reps of Jeff and Temple.

Just bumping this topic to see if there are any new opinions. I'm trying to find a few more mid-tier schools to add, and I've already
applied to all of the Philadelphia schools but was considering adding GWU. I'm wondering why you would pick the PA schools over GWU. GWU is ranked according to US News (not that it matters). Also, is Philly cheaper than DC to live in?
