George Washington wait listees..post here

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A new member lela13 got into GWU this morning by phone

My little problem has been fixed by the way. :) They sent me an email thanking me for my updated info and they put me back on the alternate list....but I must have lost soooo much time! :p I called just now just to make sure.

They said they anticipate a lot of movement in the next few weeks and then little by little throughout the rest of the summer.

Good luck everyone...and especially seegulz!

I was wondering where everyone was going to live in DC?? DC just seems so expensive. Anyone have recommendations?

Foxy: I appreciate the encouraging words from the admissions office, as well as the extra special good luck you are sending my way. Mostly, I am glad to have you back on the list ... now get off it :D

Darphin: DC is indeed expensive, especially if you don't want a roomate (I think I would rather die). If you look inside the city, focus on northwest DC ... it is safer than elsewhere in DC and GW is in N.W. anyway. You will save money, however, by looking outside the city. Ballston, Courthouse Plaza, Rossyln, and Crystal City are all just outside the city and have convenient metro stations. They are still expensive, but typically better.

East Falls Church and West Falls church I believe both have metro stations with their own parking lots ... so you can find a cheaper place nearby, make a short drive without serious traffic woes, and then leave your car there the whole day with no meter. I don't recall if there is a flat-fee charge to park, but I could check.

From other areas you can still drive into the city or take a bus to a metro stop, but either option is a real grind and will leave you miserable. There are convenient options in Maryland too, but I am less familiar with these.

BTW Darphin, did you get off the list?

i panicked a lil' today seeing how sooooooo many people on this board have gotten off the waitlist...

i contacted darrell and he said that as far as movement of the waitlist has occurred, in relative terms, it's only been "some, and not much." so hopefully there is still a lot of movement to come.

breathing a sigh of relief,

joe joe

Good to hear Joe Joe, thanks for posting. The two times I have called the office, they made it sound as though a lot of movement has occurred already, that it has died down greatly, and that the possibility of significant future movement is uncertain. I think I will go with Darrell on this one. There doesn't seem to be anything about the school that he doesn't know ... though I had the impression it was Darrell that I last spoke to. Hmmm ...

SeeGulz: Thanks for all the helpful info.
I actually did get off the waitlist last week. I hope you hear from them soon too!!
Thanks again!!

I talked to Darrell and he told me the 5 year group has not budged. (Sigh)

I am tentatively making plans to move South and not North since I have a family to go with. You younger dogs can up and move. I can't. That is life. You take what the dealer dealt.

I have two options in Nova SE 5 yr or retake the MCAT, since my scores are getting dated and go to Barry and do their mAsters of BIoMed Sci and reapply after this cycle since I will be a Masters student.

This really hurts.

Looks like there's still hope for wait-listees. I got a call this morning from someone in the Admissions Office asking if I was still interested in remaining on their wait-list. She said that they expect spots to open up within the next few days (I guess b/c another deposit is due).

Did anyone else get this call?

when is the $3000 deposit due?

aisha- The $3000 is due no later than June 20. If you have already paid the $100 deposit to GW you owe $2900.

Got off of the waitlist today! I'll be at GW in the Fall

phinicky-CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!! Isn't it a GREAT feeling!

naya-
thanks! I'm very excited about it b/c GW was my first choice! what are you doing about housing?

phinicky, congratulations! I see that you are from DC ... did you graduate from GW?

congrats phinicky!!! :)  (and don't forget to withdraw from mcp--thanks!)

Congrats phinicky! :D

When did you interview?

yea whats up with the housing situation?? Are most of you trying to get a place in foggy bottom, dupont, adams morgan? What do you guys think. Is it worth it to bring your car along, or sell it, because I hear parking's a bitch  :)

It is definitely not worth it to bring your car, unless you plan on driving. Parking is expensive and hard to find. I'm selling my car to help pay for my first year's tuition.

another ption is arlington- which is only a stop or two on the metro away from GW. It's a bit cheaper, and you can also bring a car (and parking is easy there). If anyone is looking for a roomie though feel free to PM me

Hey all...I've been trying to log in to the board for a while...but due to all sorts of technical difficulties, it's been an odd process. I've been lurking all this while...congrats to all those of you who've gotten in. To those still waiting: keep the faith! You never know when you'll get that phone call.

I too had GWU as my first choice and I got off the waitlist on Monday. So I'm excited to start making some actual plans...but I can see that housing and the car question (to bring or not to bring, that is the question) will prove to be a challenge.

Congrats KidDoc!  And welcome to SDN :D

 Congratulations KidDoc!

For those who got off the waitlist, when did you apply/interview?

I'm currently at GW - a LOT of people live in suburban Virginia to save a little $$$ and be able to hang onto their car. The car will be virtually essential when you get to rotations third year, and it is very useful for your patient care apprenticeships during years 1 & 2. The folks responsible for assigning you a preceptor will try to give you an assignment convenient to mass transit if you don't have a car, but it doesn't always work out that way.

SeeGulz -Thank you very much!!

thanks•••••People on this thread are waitlisted No more teasing!

oh sorry girl i didn't know i hope you get in thanks for the help on the pic

bump! Where has all the movement gone?

COngrats to all coming to GW. As for roommates, I know they are working on a list of roommates. So let Darrell or the other folks in the admissions office you want to be on the list. I found my roommate last year that way. Finding housing in Foggy Bottom is really hard and expensive, but I think it's totally worth it in the first two years. I also don't have a car there right now so it's convenient to be so close to Ross Hall. Well, see ya all in Aug!

Hi Guys!

I was just accepted to GWU this morning, via a phone call from the assistant dean!!! :D :D

Hopefully more of you will hear soon too! :)

Maple,
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Naya,..its a great feeling isn't it?? :) :) btw..did you send in the $3000 deposit already? its quite a bit huh?..non-refundable too! :( :(

Maple,
I sent in the $3000. Just the beginning of the BIG $$$$.

hi peeps,

what do you think of my situation...

i've been waitlisted since april. since then, i've sent the following to GW:

1) additional LOR
2) strong letter of interest
3) update letter w/ current activities, new grades, and new mcat scores w/ a 2 point improvement!
4) a new PS (one i intend to use for AMCAS 2003)

...and still NO ACCEPTANCE OFFER!

do you guys/gals think there is a HUGE RED FLAG on my application or something of that nature?

i'm thinking of committing to something for this year (good job) and giving up on GW for this cycle...

joe joe

Hey Joe Joe, don't give up yet. I am bummed about the whole situation myself, but some movement will continue off the waitlist. It sounds like you have done everything you can, and I congratulate you on your MCAT improvement. Myself, I have sent in two letters of interest and will send in a third before too long. The Admissions office told me to hold off for 4-5 weeks (about two weeks ago).

GW has taken a lot of California residents, and I think that bodes well for you. There is a good chance that some Cali people will decide to go elsewhere, and if they do GW may want to fill their spots with other Cali people. BTW, I noticed you are on other waitlists ... is GW your first choice?

Oh, I don't think there is a red flag holding you back. If so, you probably wouldn't have gotten on the waitlist in the first place. This list is unranked, and they pull people off with the intent of preserving the diversity of the class. Certainly more goes into each decision than diversity maintainence alone, but at this point I am sure you are considered as qualified as anyone else.

I'm going to withdraw from the waitlist today :) I hope you guys get in! Seegulz, you know I'm rooting for you!

Bump

A friend that I interviewed with got in sometime last week.:)
