Congrats! Any advice?
Hey. I'm a current upper classman at University of Glasgow. What kind of advice would you like? Also feel free to DM me any specific questions.

Thank you! If I get in (I'm trying to think positively), I'll be moving from the United States. How difficult is it to find pet-friendly rentals in the area? While in school, how much free time do you have for working or hobbies? Are there opportunities to work in research labs or with animals on campus? Are instructors easy to talk to if you need help?

I am also curious about all these questions.

Just so everyone is aware this program is a 5yr set up! So it’s class of 2030 not 2029 as stated on the forum title :)

The waiting to hear back is awful. My university has a FEEPASS program with Glasgow so I didn't have to submit through VMCAS. Downside is that I can't see any status things in relation to my application.

VMCAS also does not have any status update on their website. We just have to wait by email. I’ve done both VMCAS and UCAS this year and the only one that shows “offers” is UCAS downside is you can only pick 5 programs. So I did all the schools in the UK/Ireland on Vmcas that are on there and the rest on UCAS. Best of luck, it’s hard wait, but I truly believe it teaches us patience

Hello, sorry for the late reply since I'm currently on rotations. I'd say it's a little more difficult to find pet-friendly rentals, but I definitely have a lot of friends with pets so definitely not impossible and you can always ask them even if it doesn't explicitly say.
Let me preface that everyone is different. If you're looking for As on exams then you will dedicate much more time to school than I did. I was just looking to be a general practitioner and passing was enough for me. That being said. If you don't self-study well then this may not be the right program because I know plenty of people that resat exams or years because the program is relying on you to study the material yourself.
There's much more free time. We have 2 exams per year. So I made vet school a 9-5 job and rarely studied at home because it worked best for me. I also for 3 years had an online remote job and worked 15 hours per week. (Once 4th year happens it's so busy that I decided to stop then). When exams were closer I'd spend half a weekend day to studying and still have time to decompress. Many people have time to continue working out and spending time on activities they enjoy.
Many people find time to travel (a lot because Glasgow rains a lot and we all need some Spanish or Portugese sun sometimes)
Lots of research opportunities. I did not take advantage of these so I can't help with this.
The lecturers and clinicians are phenomenal. Extremely approachable. I feel comfortable discussing with anybody. They are all passionate about their subject areas so they are happy to discuss questions.
Vet student support is also great and help with any questions that are non-vet related.

Now, I just want you to be aware and that you should ask the school, the school is on probation for their NAVLE scores. So I'd be asking if the scores are not resolved what happens then? Will you be refunded your application stuff if they can't accept another class? That's important if I were your class.

Let me clarify. The program has lectures you attend, practical (labs) for skills, and clinical seminars to discuss things in groups, but you will need to review the material and that's what I mean by self-study.

Thank you for all this!!
Finding rentals just about anywhere is difficult for me because I have more than the "standard" amount of pets (1 dog, 3 cats, and a snake).

Everything else you mentioned sounds very reasonable and promising! Hopefully, I can get UK citizenship and not have to come back to the states.

I’m in the same boat about not coming back. I’ve applied to all UK schools on VMCAS and UCAS

Wait - you can get UK citizenship after going to vet school in the UK? Where do I find more info on this?

After you finish a course in the UK, you can apply for a Graduate Visa, which allows you stay in the UK for up to 2 years without a sponsor. From what I understand, it gives you some leeway and time to find a sponsor (usually employer) for a Skilled Worker visa, which could then lead to citizenship. I guess you could also instead use those two years to find a UK citizen to marry lol, either way works.

That's what I understand, if I'm missing something, anyone please correct me!

There's also this: Apply for citizenship if you have indefinite leave to remain or 'settled status'
From what I understand, you can apply after you have lived in the UK for 5 years straight and intend to stay. It should work well with the vet program being 5 years. I'm hoping (if I get in), to talk to people who have done this.

Just got an email from Glasgow with the link for the ethical reasoning test! Do any current students have advice for taking this test?

Nice! The advice I have heard is to be honest with your opinons and not tell them what you think they want to hear. I didn't apply via VMCAS so I don't know if I will get one too.

I believe they send out the ethical reasoning test in batches as they continue to review applications, so I wouldn’t be worried if you haven’t received it yet! They probably didn’t get to your application yet.
Goodness, I hope I get it soon. I've been a little anxious this cycle in general, my thoughts were like oh my gosh, where is my rejection when everyone was saying that they got their ethical reasoning test? That does help. Thank you!

One of my friends just got her ethics reasoning test in and I'm happy for her but starting to get concerned for myself. I'm questioning if not doing the application through VMCAS was a mistake even though I did what was recommended

Hey guys, I have an issue with my SAQ where my full essay won't paste into the text box. It says to restrict yourself to 1,000 words yet my essay is at about 700. Anybody else experiencing this?

I applied through vmcas and have not received an ethics reasoning test yet either

I applied through the VMCAS and submitted my app on 9/9. I then received an email for the test on 9/19 for it to be submitted before 9/26.

Dang. I submitted my application back in July. The only thing I’ve gotten was a confirmation email that they received my application

I'm gonna have to buy at least 12 more succulents to distract me from the waiting period :rofl:

Out of curiosity, are most folks applying in undergrad or already graduated?
I got my bachelor's in zoology back in 2021 but because of COVID I was able to get shadowing hours and just kinda gave up. Ended up starting on my master's degree in 2023 and realized that being a vet is still what I want to do.

I’m a recent graduate! Applied last cycle but not to Glasgow. Hoping for some good news this cycle lol

If it helps, every time I log on to the portal to check if they've scored the ethical reasoning test, the deadline for it keeps getting extended further, so I think they are doing them in waves, hope you guys get your invites soon!

Did they give you portal information with the ethic reasoning test?

This thread is for discussing applications to the University of Glasgow School of Biodiversity, One Health, & Veterinary Medicine in the 2024-2025 (class of 2029) cycle.
I am HEARTBROKEN. I was planning to take Glasgow's ethical reasoning assessment on Friday but had a family emergency and spent all of Saturday driving home so I planned to take it today (Sunday) the day it was due.

I am located in the United States (US), and on multiple emails they have said that the assessment is "Open from today until 23:59 (US) Sunday 6th October 2024" I tried to begin taking it about 45 minutes ago (at 6:30pm my time in CT) and it said I was closed. I was incredibly confused. Then, I went and tried to change my application time zone and it says it would due 5pm my time located in the US.

The applications turns out to have been due at midnight THEIR time, not US time. I sent the admissions team a couple of emails begging for grace and explaining where my confusion came from but now all I can do is wait for their response. I am truly SO heartbroken and just needed somewhere to share my frustration.

This has been my literal dream vet school since I was in high school and it hurts so much to have missed something as simple as the ethical reasoning assessment. If I get into other vet schools I would hate to turn a seat down just because I want a shot at applying to this school again next cycle and then potential not getting in here next cycle. Any advice?

First of all, I’m sorry this happened to you and I hope it can be rectified. To address the comment above I would NOT sacrifice a spot at a 4 yr US program for a 5-year abroad program. Though Glasgow is a great school and place, the extra expenses of a 5th year are not worth it in my opinion, especially if you have an undergrad degree with debt already. I know many people at this school and though the tuition seems reasonable/ comparable to US institutions, other expenses accumulate and make it almost always more expensive in the long run. Just something to consider.

Thank you for your input. While Glasgow still remains my dream school, I will go someone more practical if need be. I will go wherever is the cheapest and closest to my support systems. One of the main reasons it interests me is because some of my family members are moving to the UK next year and it would be closer to them than staying in the US. Staying in the US will probably be the most practical and where I will most likely end up especially at this case
