One of my friends was told that she'd be able to book on or after the 10th. Mine is a bit different because I didn't apply through VMCAS

Hey all! I have an interview with Glasgow in about a week. However, I have not yet received a password for the Zoom session or a booking confirmation via email. Did anyone else experience the same thing? I am unsure as to how to proceed. Thanks!

I booked mine for this Wednesday about a week ago but only got my link a day ago so maybe check in on your email but if it's not there within 3 days before the interview maybe reach out just to see?

I had my interview today and I didn't get any confirmation until a few days ago. You should still be able to see that you booked the interview on their portal tho
 
I’m kinda worried about how short the interviews are, 30 minutes does not seem like a lot of time to say anything. Can anyone who has done an interview lmk if it feels like you were on a time crunch? I’m worried I’ll yap too much 😅

Did mine last year but it went a little over 30 minutes but not because of me they kept asking me questions lol it’s very relaxed just be yourself and show your passion!

For anyone who interviewed last year, how long after the interview did it take to hear back?
 
This is gonna probably be a dumb question, but what is the difference between the graduate entry and regular? Like they’re both 5 years when other schools have their graduate entry for 4 years and I cannot find anything about any course structure differences?

Glasgow does not have graduate entry. They only have a 5 year veterinary program. The difference is that in the UK/EU these programs are undergraduate level. Many of the students go right into veterinary programs from secondary school (high school) and do not have bachelors degrees like almost all applicants from the US. This is why it’s 5 years and not 4. Many UK & EU / Ireland schools (Edinburgh, Bristol, Dublin off the top of my head) have graduate entry programs for students who have already completed a bachelors degree/advanced study. This way they don’t have to sit thought an extra year of study that the UK/EU students need because they don’t have advanced science degrees

wait but on their website they say they do, they have
  • Veterinary Medicine & Surgery BVMS: D100 5 year degree
  • Veterinary Medicine & Surgery (graduate entry) BVMS: D210 5 year degree
I don’t see why they would specify it as graduate entry and then have it not be a graduate entry, but I guess this might be a question for admissions.

I think it’s just to separate the admissions pool for people who have further degrees but you’re applying for the same program.
 
Has anyone moved to the UK with pets? If I get in, I just want to make sure I don't miss anything. The process doesn't seem to be too difficult until it gets to the airlines. Direct flights into the UK require the animal to be in cargo, but not all airlines will do it and the price estimates are all over the place. I'm looking into flying to France/Spain/Netherlands first since they do allow animals in the cabin to Europe and then taking a ferry over to save money. If anyone has experience on this I'd greatly appreciate tips!

I don't have experience with it but I am wondering the same for my own dog. Right now I am looking into microchipping and vaccine requirements that must be done after microchipping. What airlines have you found that don't allow animals in cargo? Right now it seems like the most plausible way for me though I hate the idea of my older dog in cargo, but he's almost 40 lbs and not sure how I could get him in the cabin.

I don't know if you've read about it yet, but you'll also need a certificate from a USDA-approved vet. Delta, American, and United all told me they won't allow them in cargo for international flights to the UK unless you're military. I'm looking into British Airways and AirFrance for airlines that will accept them. The only way to get a dog that size in cabin would be to have them registered as a service dog. You could see if there is a ferry that goes your closest port into the UK or Europe but that would take a pretty long time and could be more stressful for him.

there is a pretty extensive quarantine process animals have to follow to be imported to the UK. Everyone I know did not travel with their pets who went to Glasgow. One friend of mine waited for her second year to bring her cat so she could sus out the process more. Also- for dogs- XL bully breeds are banned in the entire UK and a lot of European countries have strict regulations around certain dog breeds. These are things you’d have to consider if you have large breed dogs!

did she end up quarantining? I am reading that quarantine is not mandatory if all health certificates and rules are followed but who knows what requirement could slip through the cracks

I've thought about that too lol. I'd like to try and avoid a broker if possible for that reason. I understand the requirements with microchips/vaccines/etc so I don't really think I need one. The vet I use is already USDA certified and she's very familiar with the paperwork. So I just need the airlines to not charge crazy amounts lol

yeah holy **** so far the health requirements are reasonable and the USDA vet thing is common, I think even for Canada they're requiring USDA vets for health certification soon if not already but my lord the airlines.....the physical aspect of the transport is tough. I'm already getting ready to sell my car to apply for visa fees for my partner but I doubt it can cover both. Hold strong my abused Subaru

I just filled out a quote request for IAG cargo because they work with British airways so if it comes back reasonable I'll let you know. If you find any reasonable airway spill the deets

Will do! I'm going to be using student loans to cover as much as possible lol. My sister is trying to get into a masters or phd program so at least I will have someone to split costs with. The downside is between us we have 1 dog, 6 cats, and 3 snakes...
I'll have a lot of things to sell when/if I get in to hopefully recoup that. At least you have a Subaru haha I have a Hyundai Veloster (pandemic car) and it has been trying to fall apart for years.

Yes! This is why the quarantines are super strict. I haven’t heard of anyone being able to bypass the quarantine with a health certificate but I also haven’t done the process myself so I’m not an expert. All I know is I asked about it during my interview last year and the person I spoke with in admissions for both the UK and Ireland school advised against bringing my pets :/ but I think they probably have to say that haha

Luckily it looks like that has changed. There is a chance for quarantine or denial if the proper steps aren't followed.

I think the school just doesn't want to be liable for any incorrect information and since they aren't likely doing it themselves, it's probably hard to stay up to date with the regulations. I don't blame them for that though lol. My advisor is from the UK and is semi-familiar with the process from when he got a dog for his sister-in-law and sent her over to the UK (pre-covid)
 
Great discussion guys, thanks for bringing this up. I also have pets that I’d bring over with me (from Canada), so I’m looking into costs & requirements. Both of my dogs are already microchipped and meet the requirements (except the specific paperwork needed pre-travel), but the whole process feels daunting. Please keep posting here if you get any good info!
 
This seems like a fairly recent resource.


Whenever I bring dogs for people while flying with horses in cargo (Amsterdam, liege, Miami, Chicago mostly) I have all the paperwork, passport, forms, attached to the kennel. Then I have to go collect them after a bit from the animal customs with ID and money for customs.

Also if you feel like dropping $9k k9jets and bark air are always options

I got the email today with the title "VMCAS: Appointment reminder," but there was no Zoom link. When I go into the Glasgow Moodle/portal, I do have access to the Zoom link from there, but when I click on it, it requires me to input a Meeting Passcode, which I have not been provided with. I might need to email Glasgow about it just in case?

yeah I would email just in case. I didn't receive any passcode nor was I required to enter one. I accessed my zoom through the portal on my application through their website with the booking link.

Though I never tried accessing the zoom link until right before my interview
 
Hi guys! Does anyone happen to know how much the interview is weighted regarding admission into the program? I know some programs only use your interview score to determine whether you are admitted. However, other schools, for example, only weigh the interview at 30% when evaluating whether a student gets accepted or not. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that once you are offered an interview, you have "passed" their other requirements, and admission is then based solely on the interview.
 
Got accepted as someone who interviewed on 11/25 🙂

From their email, I don’t think they have let everyone know yet so don’t stress. It seems like they have just sent out their first invites to people who scored very high. Best of luck!

They asked us to tell them if we accept as soon as possible but no later than April.
