Got into long island university today got my letter!
I was accepted to LIU!!🙂 yay!
LIU was the only school I applied to. I am a transfer student. I am graduating early this may with a BS in Biology and chem minor, magna cum laude (Overall GPA 3.8, Major GPA 4.0) from Hofstra U (it only took me 3 years instead of 4). Did undergrad research, had 3 good LOR, 82% on PCAT, interviewed Feb 21 🙂
Congrats to everyone else too!
I GOT IN TOO! 🙂
Here's the group for LIU Pharmacy Students Class of 2013:

I am also having the same problem deciding which school to attend.
Pro of LIU:
the school is accredited and has been around for many years
it is closer to my house
Con of LIU:
it has 220 students per class
it has 3 yrs of classes and 1 yr of rotations
Pro of Touro:
it is a small class size
it has a 2+2 program
Personally for me I observe jewish holidays- so wouldnt miss class like I would in LIU
I know a couple pple going there- it is good to have a support system there already with other students
Cons of Touro:
not accredited yet
LIU has a better name
an hr train ride as opposed to 20 min

I really have no idea at this point. At the beginning of the year I was planning on going to LIU if I got in, now that I got in I am having my doubts. I have a friend in Touro now and she is very happy and feels like she is learning practical stuff for pharmacy practice. Boh programs are quite difficult but one less year of studying can be a good thing. LIU is 20 minutes from my house and Touro is like over an hr. Some classes start at 8- meaning I have 2 wake up at 6. I guess I will have to decide soonI already paid 2k, 1st deposit and I was sure I will go to TOURO. But now I am having doubts because its not well known. The pro and cons you have mentioned, I agree but its the whole new program that makes me feel uncomfortable and that so many people tell me I should not even think since I got into LIU.....sooooo 😕
So where are you going LIU or TOURO?

Touro is a much better school right now because they are brand new. Also the fact that the class size 80 students compared to 220 its gonna be a much better environment to learn. And Touro is going to be easier then LIU wen it comes to grading. And also I think Touro is cheaper than LIU. And also Touro has less in class time because they do 2 years of Rotations which works out good for you if you have pharmacy experience, because it is easy.

Did you apply to Touro? I didn't. For me it's already enough that the school is not accredited 🙄
bklyngirl, congrats!

Thank you all for your input. I am leaning more towards TOURO. I hope to see some of you there, who ever is going that is. By the way how many of you decided to go with Touro?
Your post is a bit confusing to me! Your main objective and goal throughout your previous posts has been focused towards LIU. If you firmly believe everything you have mentioned above, then WHY did you not put all your effort into getting a seat at Touro?
What does being a brand new school have to do with better quality? Many people would disagree 100%! Why also do you think that Touro's grading system will be easier than LIU's (what an immature response!) From what I can see from the threads posted by LIU pre-pharmers, common sense and intelligence seems to be lacking a bit, which is making me wonder how difficult are the standards for LIU pre-pharmers in progressing to the professional phase?![]()

LIU is probably one of the craziest experiences A for one the people that usually succeed are cheaters, and theirs so many fake people at the school Yes, their are some brilliant individuals that will succeed because they want to be pharmacist but a large group of these teenagers are just being pharmacists for the money
SO why would u go to LIU if its so bad???![]()
bklyngirl you have some good points..I think most of the info posted on this forum or any public forum for that matter is usually based on opinion...Some people like to jump on the bandwagon if you know what I mean..No pun intended to the OP of course...
But not for nothing, LIU does produce some steller pharmacists...I've met a few of these exceptional pharmacists from my years of retail experience...But they are rare, I could only name a few out of the many that graduated from there...Some new LIU graduates are just plain clueless and seem like they have never worked a day in their life...But I guess it varies by a case to case basis...
Again, like I said before, PLUS's and MINUSES on whichever you choose..From reading many of the threads here, the best decision is to pick the school that you feel FITS you the best..
Oh yeah, I forgot to add, externships and rotations can be the hardest..I wouldn't take them lightly...
no sounds like an LIU student trying to get you to go to touro they want your spotSo are you going to go with TOURO?

That's what I thought as well, but the poster claims he/she got into LIU (and is SO EXCITED about it.) Couldn't understand why the same poster is then trying to lead people towards Touro - totally confusing😕If you have a bachelor's degree, all u need r the pre reqs and 27 social science credits. If you dont, I rememeber reading in the student handbook, that there is room to take non science and math once in the program. I suggest you read the handbook on the LIU site.Hi, is 2 literature classes really necessary? Can you take the 2 english literture classes in LIU once you are accepted? yes or no?
