How soon after you submitted your application did you hear about an interview?
For my interview at South College, I received the interview request less than a week after I applied. But I applied really late (January) so now I'm nervous that there aren't any spots left. Have you applied there?

Been reading the forums since app opened. Good time as any to share my stats :)

University: University of California, San Diego
Major: Physiology & Neuroscience, Psychology (minor)
Overall GPA: 3.46
Pre-Req GPA: 3.44
GRE: V150, Q149, Writing 4.5

Observation Hours: 5 settings - 1200+ hours outpatient (ortho, sports, cardio, geriatrics, peds, aquatics, women's health), 40 hours inpatient (acute care, sub acute for veterans and active duty personnel), 1 hour home health (lol)
Recommendations: 2 PTs (clinic director and wound care specialist), 1 prof (Microbiology)
Extracurriculars: Food bank volunteer, church volunteer, research volunteer, PT club member, high school mentor, filipino club board member for 2 years, Note taker, contact assistant for admissions office, intramural athlete, personal trainer assistant, PT Aide

Applied: WesternU, MSMU, WCU, CSUN, CSULB, APU, Chapman (Fall and Summer), Touro Nevada, UNLV
Interviews: APU (9/26), WesternU (declined)
Rejections: CSUN (1/25), Chapman - fall (1/31), CSULB (2/1)
Waitlist: Chapman - summer (declined)
Acceptances: APU (10/10), Touro Nevada (11/20), MSMU (12/2)

*Although my stats are average, I believe what got me my acceptances were making sure my extracurricular activities, observation hours, and recommenders were diverse. I also asked a few PT students to help me along the way. Finally, talk to admissions I asked so many questions I knew the answer already but did it anyways so they knew I am very interested. Literally have threads of conversations since July with different admissions departments.

Best of luck everyone!

I just applied this week so super late. I’m hoping they still have spots since they extended their application deadline by 3 months last week.

First time posting! I know my chances are low with my pGPA, but hoping for the best this cycle!

University: Northwestern University
Major: Dance and Psychology

Postbacc GPA: 4.0
Pre-requisite GPA: 3.0-3.2 depending on school, only applying where I meet the minimum
GRE: 156V, 159Q, 5.0 W
*Included a statement in my application saying that many of my prerequisite courses were taken during a time of serious injury/chronic pain, leading to me having spinal surgery over winter break of my junior year. I know this affected my grades in these courses, but it did give me a lot more exposure to PT as a patient.

Volunteer/Observation Hours: Over 350 (with 250 more in progress) working as a rehab aide in an outpatient clinic; 34 unpaid at outpatient clinics; 11 in occupational outpatient, 7 in wellness outpatient, 25 in inpatient

Certification: Adult and pediatric CPR, AED, and first aid

LORs: 1 PT (the manager of the clinic where I work), 1 psych professor who runs the lab I worked in, 1 dance professor who mentors the graduating dance majors

Applying: Northwestern, Rosalind Franklin, UIC, NYU, Touro, Franklin Pierce (NH and AZ), GWU, Hampton, UMiami, Emory, Regis

Rejections: UIC, Franklin Pierce AZ (pGPA didn't meet requirements)

Interviews: NYU (12/7), Emory (1/11)

Acceptances: Franklin Pierce NH (12/14), Touro Bay Shore (12/20), Northwestern (2/6)

Updates: Received invitation for Touro supplemental app (11/2), Alternate Candidate for Northwestern (11/30), Waitlisted for interview at Regis (12/12), Waitlisted at Emory (2/13)

Attending Northwestern University!!! :biglove:

Final Update!
I didn't know if I'd be accepted anywhere this cycle, and I'm now planning to attend my top choice program! Those with low GPAs, don't lose hope. I freaked myself out poring over this forum for the past few years, but every applicant and every program is different. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear!

This was my first time applying as I haven't graduated yet and I had extremely low expectations with my quantitative GRE score and my lower verbal score. Additionally, I had to retake my first chemistry after my freshman year so I was really doubtful that I would get in to any of the programs I wanted to attend. Hopefully this gives some hope to those who are stressing about the GRE and any academic retakes! Ultimately, I got in to my top choice and I couldn't be more excited!!

I really preferred the set up of their curriculum and their large focus on interprofessionalism. I also work alongside DPT's who were once taught by the program director and they raved about her. Plus I love the location and can't beat the cost of living and tuition compared to USciences.

**P.S** I'll note that my freshman year I messed up and have a academic dishonesty infraction on my record that I had to disclose on my applications. Albeit the infraction was a small participation related problem, I didn't think I had any shot of getting in this cycle and was prepared for next cycle when the infraction is expunged from my record. If you have doubts about your application there is always hope! Have confidence in yourself![/QUOTE]

I'm actually embarrassed to share this since they are so low, but I'll do it to give others hope and show that they can get in with sub 3.0 GPAs

Still waiting on the other two

I was talking to the admissions coordinator to follow up on my acceptance at USA, and they said that I was very strong with my interview (very personable, outgoing, strong responses to questions)

Honestly if you think you'll have trouble with your interview, look up "A New Exercise: How to Succeed at the Interview for a DPT Program".

I swear by this book. It helped me tremendously in formulating my answers to common questions, as well as picking up on certain mannerisms, etc.

On another note, even though my grades weren't the best, I feel that if you really devote yourself to the field, you're bound to find success somewhere.

Good luck to all future DPT students

-Michael

congrats on your acceptances!!! do u mind telling me why you chose university of lynchburg instead of the others?
I chose to not attend University of the Sciences because of the cost and because I did not like the structure of the curriculum. It was 50k more than Lynchburg and the cost of living in Philadelphia is much more than in Virginia. With the curriculum there would be a lot of moving in and out for clinicals and I felt that it was important to have a more steady living situation during graduate school! In addition the program at Lynchburg seems incredible and they have a possible 3,000 clinical site opportunities as compared to UScis 1,000 clinical sites. Although Usci is an amazing program, I just couldn’t get over the cost and moving around constantly!

TUN deadline for deposit was January 15th. I'm not exactly sure if the class is full or not unfortunately ): best person to ask is Michael Wilson, he's the Sr Admissions Manager. Atm they have sent me the health packet and enrollment info. Michael told me that he once called a student a week before class starts if they want to attend the upcoming class. So dont give up hope! Feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions :)

My thought process when applying to and accepting schools. GO TO WHERE IT IS CHEAP! PT school is ridiculously expensive and getting worse every consecutive year. According to WebPT, the average grad will take 45 years to pay off his/her loan (that is with the 100K of debt). When I got accepted to LLU (105K), I rejected other interviews and offers from other private schools like Western or Chapman. LLU is one of the cheaper private school in California, but I was hoping and praying to get into a state school where I know that, along with the cheaper tuition, there will also be FAFSA grants to help you out! Miraculously, I was accepted to my top choice (Fresno State). I fell in love with their program during my interview. Not to mention, because they cramp everything into 8 semesters, tuition is one semester cheaper. In addition, Fresno is not a large city so the living cost is great compare to San Francisco, San Diego, LA county, or any other big cities.

But nonetheless, PT is a great profession. Go to the place where you feel like it is a good fit for you. But for those out there who have the same concern and mentality as mine, I hope my explanation help you in choosing the right school :)

Have confidence in yourself!
