I feel like my Pre-Req GPA is killing me. I got C's in Chem 1/Chem 2 and A's/B's in everything else. I was advised not to retake the Chemistry courses by my pre-pt advisor. When I first came to college I was more focused on racing and I spent a lot (I mean A LOT) of time away from school. The race shop I work at is 140 miles from campus and I've been there or on the road racing around 45 weeks/year for the entire time I've been in college. Obviously my grades suffered but I really kicked it in gear my last few semesters and have done fairly well.

I'm hoping the admissions committees will see that improvement and look over my Pre-Req GPA. My cumulative (3.56) isn't terrible and will likely go up a little after this semester, but I feel like if I would have focused more on school my first couple years I could be at a 3.8-3.9. I know GPA isn't everything, so I'm hoping my GRE and unique/heavily involved EC's will help me out.

What do you guys think?

Did you research if any of the schools your applied to have minimums required for applying? For example, I know UNC-CH has a minimum of 3.2 for pre-req GPA.

starrsgirl - thanks for the info, it's appreciated! This is my final semester and I'm set to graduate in December, so I'm going to schedule a meeting with the pre-pt advisor (my school just got a new one this year - not the same one that told me to not re-take Chem) and see what the logistics are of retaking those classes after I graduate. As far as the other pre-reqs are concerned, I got A's in Physics 1 and 2, Psych, Stats, & Humanities. B in Biology. Here our A&P is combined into one 8 credit hour course - I got a B in that. If I could replace the two C's I got in Chemistry with A's, I feel like that would help a lot. Even if the school averages the grades instead of replacing them, it'll help me out a little bit. As far as my last 60 hours - most of it has been my Physics classes, some leadership classes, and upper level Kinesiology classes (Muscle Physiology, Cardio Physiology, Neuro, Biomechanics, etc.) - not much for pre-reqs. But like you said, I'm going to wait and see what happens this round, and then start to plan ahead if I don't get in.

immadrumbum34 - You're right, UNC does have a higher pre-req GPA. I actually didn't apply there - they were on my list until I saw that requirement. When I posted my stats yesterday, I was looking at my original list, not the schools I ultimately applied to. But yes, I did do a lot of research when looking at schools.

Thank you for letting me know. That is disappointing to hear about Delaware. I knew it was a long shot for me but it didn't have a minimum gpa requirement listed on ptcas so I was hopeful. Did Belmont reject you completely or did they say they would possibly review your application in December if spots were still available for their January interview?

Is it normal to get waitlisted this early on in the process? I felt my interview was very strong, and I'm not one to normally give myself positive feedback (I demand more from myself). I only applied to schools that look at the last 60 hrs. Depending on how this semester goes, that would put my last 60 GPA between 3.53 and 3.62. The schools also count the latest class taken for pre-req's which makes my pre-req GPA 3.48 (Mizzou) and 3.72 Wichita State. This changes with different schools obviously. I included the two schools I feel the best chance of being accepted to.
I do not have much in the way of extra curricular activities because I have worked through school and do not have a lot of extra time. I took the GRE without studying for it. I plan to take it again within a few weeks and study for it. I know I need a higher written score, and hoping to get my verbal and Quantitative up to a 160. Also plan on getting my CPR/AED certs soon.

Any thoughts on my chances of getting into school this round? I know my PTCAS GPA's are horrible. I'm hopping my improved academic performance in the last 60 hours will make a difference.

Also, any advice on preparing for the written section of the GRE? Writing is really not my strongest area. I spent half of the time allowed on the test just trying to figure out what to write.

Practice for the writing. I know Princeton Review, and probably other GRE prep books, has online practice tests in which they will grade your essay sections and offer feedback based on what you have written. The more essays you write the better you will be under pressure.

Thanks! I submitted my stuff around 9/26 and had it all verified 10/21.

As long as you submitted your stuff to PTCAS before your program deadlines then you should be golden. Your GRE looks really good! And if your GPA is competitive you should have no issue at all.

I am posting this to give hope to people who had a rough beginning track record in college but turned it all around in hopes to be a PT. I worked my ass off the last 2.5 years to make my dream come true, so can you! I am taking 4 courses currently online to boost my overall GPA since PTCAS murdered my chances. If I get all A's, my overall will be a 3.01, not great but I think my essays and prereqGPA make up for this.

Can anyone let me know how they think my chances would be for some of these schools? I am from Jersey and now I kind of don't want to go too far. I have a boyfriend and am close with my family; thinking I want to be 4 hours tops away from home... But I also don't want to sacrifice going to a good program for distance issues 🙁 ...... I'm so excited to start school though if I am accepted somewhere!

also, what do you know about the program... I don't know too much, but at first glance, many of the faculty members seem ortho/manual or sports focused.

It says on PTCAS that they don't make decisions until January, which is respectable since they dont do rolling admissions. Relax....their PTCAS deadline to submit was last week.
