Hey guys,

I applied this cycle, but only to my resident state MD and DO programs in Arizona. I havent heard back from the MD programs and do not expect to. I was waitlisted for II at AZCOM and rejected at ATSU-SOMA. I am now preparing for a re-app. Also I applied late. I had all of my secondaries submitted on 9/25

My sGPA is 3.94 and cGPA 3.9 according to AACOMAS
I got a low MCAT with a 502 CHM/PHYS: 127 CARS: 123 BIO: 128 P/S: 124

Shadowing a MD and DO in psychiatry for 144 hours (two strong LOR's)
Anatomy and Physiology TA 280 hours (LOR)
Research in a sustainability lab 110 hours (LOR)
Hospital Volunteer just started recently with around 20 hours

I plan on applying early and broadly next application cycle and would love some input on what schools I have a chance at! Mostly DO, but some MD

Also, I have been deliberating a MCAT retake as I was scoring 507-508 on AMCAS FL prior to testing. I would generally score a 125 in CARS.

Thank You

There are a bunch of DO schools that you are competitive for and you could still add them for the 18-19 cycle if you so choose.

I don't even feel bad for your A.T. Still rejection. They have the most horrible interview process and the facilities are atrocious. AZCOM is tough unless you have a 506 MCAT or higher. Are you wanting to stay west coast or do you care at this point?

I definitely prefer west coast. I have not seen snow in my entire life.

I think I might add a few more DO schools for this cycle.

You should add many more DO schools this week and complete the secondaries by early November. I suggest all these schools:
ACOM
ARCOM
NYIT-Arkansas
ICOM
BCOM
UIWSOM
VCOM (all 3 schools)
LMU-DCOM
UP-KYCOM
WVSOM
CUSOM
Most of these schools have MCAT medians in the 498 to 502 range so you should receive several interviews.

Could you please elaborate on this?
Yea, the interview day consisted of a group activity, a role playing activity, a nine station MMI multiple information sessions, and then on top of that a one on one interview. I don’t understand the need to grill everyone they interview with soooo much stuff, but it was awful. The school is shared amongst multiple professions in clusing nursing or other health professions. The DO’s have the third floor of a building to themselves and they have to share the anatomy lab with everyone else. It’s kinda a joke in my opinion. I’m sure it’s a great school other then that, but I honestly didn’t like anything about it.

It's not too late to apply DO right now. If you're boning for the MD, you need to retake the MCAT, because a 502 is circling the drain.
I suggest:
LECOM (both)
Western (both)
PacNW
BCOM
KCU
MUCOM
ACOM
Both AR schools
All 3 VCOMs
UIW
ICOM
CUSOM

Also, OP needs a DO letter if he/she doesn't have one already.

Thank you all for the feedback it has been very helpful. I have a DO letter and a MD letter. I am weighing the option of re-taking the MCAT and giving myself better odds for the MD.

Not all DO schools require a DO LOR or shadowing. But it does help!
Some of the schools on the list you gave him requires a DO letter. That's why I suggested that, but glad to know OP already have one.
