So I know there are a few other threads about KSU and when people are moving, but didn't see one specifically for when we are getting to the Little Apple. Since many of us are heading out there early and won't know a soul in Manhattan, I thought it might be nice to post up here and see if any of us want to start getting together and exploring the area a bit before the chaos starts.

Since I'll be bringing my three black lab mutts who will suddenly be without their large canine/human support group, I'm especially interested in getting some dog meetups going. Honestly, that's one of my biggest worries with this whole adventure. My dogs have had a fantastic life out here, and I have been lucky to have great dogloving friends and we can help take care of each other's furkids when any of us leave town or work late or whatever. I can trust them implicitly and know they will look after my kids like they are their own, and my guys get the benefit of more people and dogs in their lives. In Manhattan, we'll have to start all over with that. 😱 Anybody else have that concern?

So anybody else up for some doggy get-togethers, BBQ's, helping with household/moving projects, etc? I'm going to try and head out for the closing on my house and to start working on it approximately June 15-25, then I have to be back in CA for the first half of July and then I'll move to Manhattan for real in late July. If anybody's interested in meeting up, we can PM info and get in touch when we hit town.

(And I don't mean to limit this to just us freshman, I'm sure we'd all be glad if any uppers are in town and want to take the time to help show us noobs around before the official orientation stuff begins.)

My plan is similar to yours, lunajett. I'm heading out there ~the last week of May/first week of June to get the house ready, etc., heading home for a while, then moving in ~the first week of August.

Okay, so I'm not going to KSU...

Buttt, make sure you guys check out the Little Apple Brewery. It was awesome! Great beer, food wasnt half bad either 🙂

Don't worry, you will be in a class with 120ish other wonderful animal lovers who will help you out with your pets whenever needed, go to the park or a run with you and them, pet sit whenever needed. You'll bring them to lab to study with you and they'll have tons of fun with all the other student pets. Plus they'll get tons of free/very cheap food, frontline, heartgard, etc!

Yay for Little Apple Brewery! Amazing food!

The Olive Garden built in town just opened this week here. I'm far too excited for that too....

Is Olive Garden a rare treat in Manhattan?

During my interview weekend, I found out an Olive Garden was just being built. And if it gets good service, they might build a Red Lobster too, haha! I still thought Manhattan was really nice, at least there's a Best Buy there.

Well.. Y'all have heard of Eskimo Joe's, right? Well, they used to have four restaurants here - Eskimo Joe's, Mexico Joe's, Joseppi's, and Stillwater Bay. Stillwater Bay closed - that was seafood - and Red Lobster probably had to do with that. So the person that owns the remainig three restaurants bought building rights (or something along those lines) to Olive Garden so that no one else could build one here, because that would surely put Joseppi's out of business. (Because the food there is TERRIBLE and I'm not even sure how it stays in business anyway.)

So that's the story... frankly, a Carabbas or Johnny Carino's would suit me fine, or a Macaroni Grill? Mmm. I have to drive to OKC for Italian now, and it's the only major food type that Stillwater is lacking. Not that Red Lobster is really that great, but you know.

Lol yes. The closest Olive Garden was in Topeka, an hour away, which is just something you don't get to a lot when classes are going on. So most people are pretty happy. Manhattan has pretty decent restaurants for a town of its size though, so I can't complain too much.

I LOVE Carabbas..definitely better than Red Lobster.

Hey future classmates! I am planning on moving late july, but I'll be taking a trip to Manhattan early july to do some apartment hunting. My 50-some pound dog will be coming with me, so I'm looking for places that will take us both in. Any suggestions?? 🙂

You should check out Super 8! It was clean, and CHEAP!! AND they accept pets! Also, it's close to campus! Good luck!

hey everyone, i'm going to be a 2nd year and i'm so excited to meet all of the new 1st years. you guys will love it here and be glad that you picked K-state. i sure was! I just wanted to let you guys know that i am looking for a roommate in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom spacious, open floor plan house that is located in a quite neighborhood only 5 minutes from the vet school. you would be living with 2 2nd years, that could def be a benefit!!! you can ask lots of questions !! let me know and you can e-mail me at [email protected]

Alright, we got the restaurant recommendations and housing ads out of the way, just wanted to bump this and get it back on track for anybody moving to Manhattan a little early this summer. I should be out there by late-July with three superfriendly lab mutts looking for playmates, anybody else?

Hey all,
I'm now looking for a roommate (preferrably 1-2) for the fall. I did my first semester at SGU so I'm already up on first semester anatomy, physio, microanatomy, etc.
I have two dogs (one pomeranian who is very people-dog-cat-friendly, and an american eskimo who is dog-cat friendly but wary of new people and skittish).
My eskimo is on behavioral modifying drugs and has been in behavior modification training for about a year and has made a lot of progress, so he's not a hopeless case!!
I would love to live with people who take school seriously but know how to have a good time on the weekends and like to go out. Cats/ other dogs are not a problem at all- they are welcomed!
Let me know if you are interested or know anyone who is. My email is [email protected].
Thanks!! - Katie
