HPSP C/O 2023

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey, so I just learned about the HPSP and was wondering if it was too late to apply?
It is probably not too late. However, expect it to take a couple/few months to complete. It kind of depends on how fast the recruiter can get you processed. I started my application in June and it just now got complete. A large chunk of waiting is on the medical stuff and getting through MEPS. Keep in mind, there is always the 3-year scholarship as well.

Out of curiosity, how long did you wait between having your recruiter submit your prescreening + medical documents to MEPS and getting the opportunity to go there? I have been waiting forever, even though they are supposed to have a response time of a few days based on the standards they set for themselves.

I heard from a Army recruiter its the 8th? Seems like nobody can get the dates straight.
I'm hoping your recruiter is right lol. My next big stresser after dental school acceptances is the HPSP scholarship

I remember it taking about a month and a half. It definitely takes a while, and there really isn't any way in knowing how long it takes. It probably depends on the current workload, and how much medical forms you provided. I had quite a few injuries growing up, so I had to provide a fair share of documents.

For those of you applying to Navy when did you recruiters tell you to have everything in by for the first boards?

Mine said by the end of December but that doesnt sound right. It sounds too late.

To be clear, when you say everything you mean the entire packet including the two interviews? If that is the case then I think he is right because I have been told something similar regarding January board.

I think the earliest possible date for submitting application was early November, cause my recruiter already submitted mine around then. But I am pretty sure they accept applications until late December.

Hi, can anyone help me with some air force questions? IDK how to use this website well but I posted a thread about the air force! pleasseee if anyone can read it and answer it.

Anyone planning on making two deposits? One considering you get HPSP and another for if you don't? Just curious

can anyone PM me contact info for army and navy recruiters? I started my army app this summer and after dragging it out my recruiter ghosted me about a month ago

So I am working on my app for the Navy and I probably won't be able to take my MEPS physical until next week or the week after. After that all I need to do is compete my two interviews and my application will be completed.

I just hope I am not too late. It has taken forever to be greenlit for MEPS thanks to me being diagnosed for ADHD which has really slowed the process down for me thanks to all the additional paperwork I have needed to fill out.

Do you guys think I will be too late for consideration for the scholarship if I submit late December for the Navy. First boards are apparently in January but I am still so worried.

I'm in a pretty similar boat. I can't be sure, but I was told that as long as your packet is submitted before the boards it doesn't matter how early it was. I think the Navy also has boards in February and March also. Obviously your chances are better if you are in by the first boards, but if you have everything done by the end of December you should be done in plenty of time. I hope this info is accurate

I was thinking the same thing, but moreso hoping that it is that way lol. MEPS processing takes absolutely forever.

Hey guys! Just got accepted into dental school. Now all I have to worry about is getting this scholarship lol Just stopping in to say what’s up

Congrats!!! What is your top choice, if you are selected for HPSP?

Thanks! LSU is my top choice right now. And my HPSP scholarship will be with the Navy. How about you?

Just out of curiosity, how long did it take meps to green light you for your physical after paperwork was submitted?

So assuming you pass everything with no problems....you should get the green light from them in a week or 2

Anyone applying for hpsp with below average stats? I got accepted to a couple expensive private dental schools with 3.59 gpa and 19AA. I know the boards use the whole person concept approach I just don’t know if I even have a shot at the 4 year Navy HPSP with these stats. If don’t get the 4 year I’ll apply for the 3 year Navy and Air Force but I’m not sure if that’s more or less competitive

If you’re going to be just starting the application for the scholarship, I doubt you will be able to get it done in time. It can take months because they practically want to know your whole life, and processing for MEPS can take a long time too. If you apply for the 3 year next summer you will have a good shot. It’s like dental school, you’re worth more than your stats. If you have any connections with people in the branches you are trying to join that will probably help a bunch. You get the chance to tell them why you want to join, and they do interviews.

Thanks for getting back to me! Thankfully I’m at the end of the application process, MEPS, interviews and all. My recruiter told me I have a 50/50 shot for whatever that’s worth. The one thing I don’t have going for me besides my average DAT and gpa is that I don’t have any connections with the navy. But all hope is not lost yet I guess. Thanks again

If you have almost completed the application then that is good. As long as you show a strong interest and can stand out, you have good chances!

Does anyone know when does the Airforce board meets? And when do they release the names of the scholarship recipients?

Last year it was the 5th, though I heard it got pushed back to today for this year. I heard back on the 13th last year, so I supposed it'll be around a similar time interval.

Depends on your recruiter. Bug them, as they should be keeping you in the know.

Either way I’m jealous because for the Army my recruiter said we won’t know until mid February...

Yeah for the Air Force we should know in the next few weeks. I know the Navy meets in January, I also thought the Army met in January but a previous poster mentioned February, so I am not to sure about that.

I was told that the Army's is 1/8 and should hear back about two weeks later, and the Navy is 1/15 and should hear by the end of January.

My Air Force recruiter contacted me earlier today and told me that the board met today and the result should be out any time this week.
Good luck everyone

My AF recruiter just called and told me boards were pushed back to the first week of January. I don't get why there have been so many board delays this cycle lol

Wonde if Navy and Army boards will be pushed back again as well?

Ok... So they probably DIDN'T meet yet right? I just texted my recruiter asking.

So is the decision made and they are just waiting? Or have they not made the decision yet?

Is it too late to try to apply for HPSP for this cycle (to start school in fall 2019)?

My recruiter told me that the board met on the 17th but the release date got pushed back to January.

I would contact a recruiter ASAP. I am pretty certain the AF window is already closed. The application process is pretty time consuming with going to MEPS and filling out a lot of paperwork that requires a lot of documents/info; on top of that, if you don't have a cooperative recruiter you could potentially be waiting weeks/months to get things figured out.

For Army HPSP, my recruiter said everything has to be submitted and done by tomorrow. I'm going through MEPS tomorrow and he said we should still be good. I can confirm Army is boarding in January.

My recruiter said that the board met and that we should hear back by tomorrow... I guess we'll see tomorrow if that's true or not.
Really? My AF recruiter texted me and said they had met, but the results won’t be published till January 8th lmao. I don’t know what to believe at this point.

This is what I was told as well
