St Lukes Ny or PA?

For Lumberg
RE: PSU/York

I rotated there for a month. IMHO the program is pretty strong. Volume is ~80k per year now as I remember it. No dedicated Peds ED. Fast-track run by EM residents or other house-staff moonlighting or EM attendings, very few mid-level practitioners. Shifts are 12 hours during PGY1 for 22 shifts/month going down to 8 hours as PGY3. One of the nicest things I noticed is that the EM residents get treated well on off-service rotations and that EM residents do more things in the ED that usually you have consultants do in other places I've been. The ED residents rotate at Hershey (Hershey = Penn State) for Cards and a MICU month and at Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania for 6 weeks of Peds EM. They used to also rotate through Hershey's ED but now that Hershey has their own residency they will not be (IMHO a good thing). What else do you want to know?

St Lukes Ny or PA?

I don't know - I was copy/pasting from previous posts. I didn't apply there (to either one).

Hey gang,

Heard from VCU/MCV today via email.
Cg, thanks for the info on St. Lukes, I really appreciate it...good luck!

MCV by email and ERAS message center.

St. Lukes in PA via email on Tuesday. Still trying to find out more about this hospital other than what is on their site and scutwork!

Cg, thanks for the info on St. Lukes, I really appreciate it...good luck!

Actually, that info was regarding York/Penn State

MCV by email and ERAS message center.

Bummer, I didn't hear from them today, and I am very interested in their program.

Count me in for York/PSU! 1st interview (aside from one at my current school). Good luck everyone!😀

cg...I meant York, sorry - things are starting to run together! Again thanks for the info and I hope MCV contacts you soon.

2nd Penn interview: York!

Anyone applying to Temple Scott and White? I just did a rotation there and was told by the program contact that the new director is only going to accept the USMLE not the COMLEX. Last years director who balanced the program w/ D.O.s and M.D.s is no longer the director. Anyone know what happen???

First interview!! SUNY Brooklyn!! Clock one for the IMG on this forum! There is hope!

I received an email from Indiana stating they received my app but per AAMC request, they were not offering interviews until after Nov. 1, until after the MSPE's are released. I wonder how many programs are conforming to that request. I did receive an interview from Univ of Maryland however. I scheduled it for Nov. 18, their first date. Does anyone think it is better to interview earlier or later in the process?

This topic has been addressed many, many times, very clearly. Scroll down, or do a search, and you'll find a treasure trove of opinions, not just in EM, but over all areas. The gist is, interview first because you're fresh, in the middle because you're over the jitters, and last because they'll remember you. Obviously, that means that people espouse every viewpoint, and people match from all three segments.

No, I just didn't know there was another hospital but that name, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Notified this am via email.
Good luck and let's keep 'em coming for all of us!

1st interview at Resurrection in Chicago!
For everyone who looks at this page every day and cries because they don't have interviews yet, don't despair. I was convinced that my application had a fatal flaw, but now am realizing that the early interview season is a crap-shoot. Don't read too much into not having heard from any programs yet. Just sit tight. good luck everybody. 😎

So far for me...

Orlando (I rotated there)
U Maryland

24 more to go

P.S. What causes a program to have to download the ERAS materials 6 times? Is it ERAS's fault or something with the program's system?

First interview from Yale New Haven. Now I know what "tension melting away" means 😉
There is hope... even for FMGs...

Actually, Yale is pretty open to FMG's. They usually accept one into each class. It adds to the diversity of its graduates, and emphasizes their interest in international EM. Good luck!

samdaman:

The Wayne State EM residencies (Detroit Receiving and Sinai-Grace) in Michigan also seem to have a few FMG among their ranks on a regular basis.

I've applied to both programs, but have'nt heard from them so far... maybe after the dean's letter... and both of them are pretty decent programs i've heard...
thanks for the info though

just wondering...

It seems like many of you out there are DO's and FMG(IMG)'s. I realize that it may be more difficult for DO's and FMG's to get residencies, but can anyone explain how much of a handicap it is???

um, if I'm a DO, and I got my #1 choice on my ROL (as well as lots of positive feedback from PD's), and there are several other DO's in MD programs (Chris_Topher, Wagner come to mind), then obviously there isn't much of a handicap.

Just apply and see what you get. If you have a 1/10 shot or a 1/100 shot, does it really matter? Aren't you going to give it your all anyways?

Q, DO

Ditto to the Orlando interview via e-mail and ERAS message board.
Relieved...
... but still checking e-mail, message board, and snail mail hourly.😀

Got another one today from New York Presbyterian

Second interview... University of Arkansas, Little Rock... Email and ERAS message center...
Any comments on this program?

admittedly, im an arkansas native. but the program is well reputed. Lots of neat teaching experiences, too, and good peds exposure. Tons of outdoor stuff to do in arkansas, if you are into that sort of thing (which admittedly, I am). little rock also has some beyond rough alarmingly ghetto parts. plenty of trauma/knife n gun club there. on the whole, little rock is a pretty town in a pretty part of arkansas. not really big, but quite cosmopolitan for its size. I got an interview from there today too and am pretty excited about it, its one of the places I really wouldnt mind going for a few years. Depends on where you are from too, as in the pace of life is certainly different from either coast, etc. however, Id be super happy to match there myself. where are you from?
