I still haven't heard anything yet, but that I should be expecting something soon. Still nervous though!
 
Finished the interview today! It went a lot better than I thought and everyone was super friendly! I was also surprisingly impressed by the college (especially with the surgery opportunities). 🙂
 
Just did my interview this weekend and it was great! Everyone was sooooo nice, not just at the vet school but the whole town. Being from NY I am not used to constant positive energy and it was wonderful. I was really impressed by the town and everything they had. (I had a Chicago style deep dish from Black Market Pizza, I highly recommend 😀).

The only thing that I was a little put off by was that you are required to buy a $2,500 tablet PC. Even if you just bought a new computer and don't want to use the tablet they will charge you for it no matter what. At first I was convinced they were over charging for it, but I did some research and discovered that the computer (~$1,900) plus the software suite (~$400) plus the 4 year warranty (~$ ?) all ads up about right. The tablet is actually really amazing and the way they work it into the classes should be a perfect complement to my learning style (all the profs put the notes online and you can take notes directly on the figures).

I am absolutely buzzing with anticipation to hear from them!

Every question that I received during my interview I had already read on the SDN site (now.. in the very beginning of my interview my anxiety meant I didn't necessarily remember that answers I had come up for them... but still... haha).

I had the same issue with the tablet pc, I made the mistake of buying myself a new laptop recently thinking I could use it for vet school. But I understand why they require it, seems like a great system.

And I can't wait to find out either!
 
I interviewed at ISU this weekend as well. I LOVED it 🙂 I must admit, Iowa was pretty low on my list going out there but I really enjoyed the vet school, the town, and most of the all the people, so Iowa has definitely moved up on my list. Everyone was so nice and friendly and willing to help me 🙂

All of my interview questions were on SDN interview feedback, and I felt pretty well prepared for them. My interviewers were extremely nice and not scary at all 🙂

Me too! When I applied I was kind of like "pffft, Iowa, whatever" and I focused a lot more on the East coast schools. Now that I've visited there I want to go so badly. It just felt like such a great place to be.
 
Boo, we all have the same impression of Iowa! That means the waitlist will move more slowly. 🙁
jk, I had the same so-so ideas about it at first but was so impressed when I interviewed. I hope we all get in and go there, we definitely want a class of people who all like it there!
 
So everyone talking about how much they like Iowa is making me so excited for my interview!! I expected to be very nervous at this point (a week-plus out), but I'm literally kind of giddy about it. Have to focus now, but it won't be easy!

I was so excited the two days before that I could not stop smiling. 🙂 All my excitement was justified because it was such an awesome place. Who knew I would ever look forward to going to Iowa so much? :laugh:
 
So apparently I am an "alternate" for an interview and I will hear back something tomorrow afternoon. I wonder what my chances are, but I already have an interview that weekend so it would be really nice to know if I need to leave town!
 
Is anyone going to the Iowa interview next weekend the 23rd that is flying into Omaha the night before? This is a long shot I know but it would be nice to carpool on that 3 hour drive...
 
BUMP.

Less than 5 days until this weekends interviews!! How is everyone feeling? I am on a roller coaster with being super confident, super nervous, super excited, and super worried. All over the map here lol.

I will be staying in Ames for the weekend to get a feel of the campus. I heard Hickory Park was a great place to eat. Anyone else hear of anything to check out?

I'm like you -- kind of all over the place. I have done a couple of mock interviews with my family and some of my answers make me feel SO GOOD and other answers make me want to crawl under my chair. I'm hoping to hit only the high notes this Saturday!!
 
It's good to hear that everyone has loved ISU so much. I have an interview this weekend, and I'm really not excited that it's a behavioral interview. I'd much prefer them to ask me questions about my experiences. Oh well...reading everyone's responses is certainly making me more excited.

Just be yourself, goldielocks! Use their questions to emphasize experiences you've had. Of course the interview will be a challenge, but as future veterinarians, we love challenges ;-).
 
I'm OOS and interviewing on Saturday! I have never been such a combo of scared to death and excited in my life. I'll be happy when it's over, and all I have to do is wait... well I won't be happy, but I won't have to think about the interview anymore! Haha 🙂

How did everyone's interviews go this weekend?? Now that all the interviews are over I can obsessively check my email even more often 🙂 It seems like just yesterday that we applied, but at the same time it feels like we've been waiting forever!!

I love that ISU is so definite about their dates. This weekend made me seriously reconsider my "list." I think the whole interview process was an awesome experience, and I can't wait to go back to Iowa!!

PS- Instead of having mini strokes every time we check our email, we will just have a massive one on 2/15 🙂

Is it definitely going to be on the 15th or just by the 15th? (preparing for massive heart attack)... :boom:
though I'm assuming many of us OOsers will be waitlisted and be left hanging for longer since they tend to have such a huge waitlist. :scared:
 
Dr. Howard told me that we would know BY Feb 15... She actually said, more or less, "so if you haven't heard from us by Feb 15, just keep hitting refresh in your inbox."

So I'm hoping for this week. 🙂 Enough of this waiting already! :xf:
 
Oh yeah! She did say "by February 15." Oh great, just when I thought I could relax for 22 days lol. Everytime my blackberry lights up I will be crossing my fingers!

Does anyone understand how the waitlist works? I know the rank the waitlist, but how often is it updated? Do they wait until after April 15 to start contacting the waitlist, or do they start once students deny? Let's all hope we are just outright accepted!
 
Last year it was on the day they said (I think the the 15th as well). I remember getting my acceptance around 11 am central time if that helps narrow down the freak out😉

Can't wait to hear from Iowa! I interviewed last weekend and fell in love with school! It was such a friendly atmosphere, I can't imagine going anywhere else 🙂 :xf:

No kidding, I interviewed on January 8th and have been a nervous wreak during this whole waiting process, even though I know I won't hear anything until the 15th I check my email every hour and actually look forward to checking my spam hoping something got misdirected there so I'll at least know.

My poor blackberry is glued to my hands. Every time the little email light goes on I open it right away. Of course, it is usually spam from places like Bed Bath and Beyond and Snapfish, but hey, you never know!

I think we are all hoping that they liked us soooo much that they had to tell us right away that they wanted us in their class!
 
Given what we've been told I'd be really, really surprised if anyone hears before the 15th... so don't stress yourself out by obsessively checking your email until then! I know, it's easier said than done... :laugh:

Gosh you all are making me nervous and want to check my email lol!

I had my interview way back on one of the first in-stater interview weekends, it feels like I have been waiting forever!!!!!!

Now that I have calmed down (😉), I would like to send a memo to everyone I know that says, "I have not heard anything from Iowa STATE yet, but I will hear something on February 15th. Please stop bringing it up before then."

I'm from a state college, and if anyone ever called us by just the state's name without the word "state," it would be big trouble. That's why I insist that people say Iowa State, not Iowa. Boooo hawkeyes! Also, maybe I could forgot about vet school for more than 10 minutes if everyone didn't keep reminding me!!

For anyone in Iowa, how is the weather today? Snowpocalypse 🙂

It would be a distaster at my state school that I attend as well.

And I keep getting blizzard alerts. I keep forgetting to switch the weather on my phone back to where I am currently, and it keeps sending me alerts that say AMES: BLIZZARD!!

Good thing I love cold weather! (Now, I just need to get in!)

lol, I'm actually at the University of Iowa, not so into sports and stuff though so no offense taken 🙂 But the weather is pretty crazy, there has to be at least a foot of snow outside now, and supposed to get another I think. Must be pretty bad, because Iowa canceled classes tonight and tomorrow morning....

I'm not gonna lie, I cringe/die a little inside whenever I hear or see people referring to ISU (vet med or undergrad) as Iowa. Always figured it came with the territory (growing up in Iowa). I tend to ignore it on here mostly because how do I know if the poster realizes that Iowa is in fact a school but is not the home of Iowa's veterinary school?

Probably the worst example of Iowa State/Iowa confusion though was during interviews at one of the student panels... (I apologize in advance if this was any one on here!) ... the interviewee asked what there is to do in Iowa City.

It's not quite a snowpocalypse, but it is super cold, the wind is howling, and drifts are everywhere thanks to the snow we've gotten over the past few days (more than a few inches, but less than a foot -- that's all I know as far as amount)... The wind chill for tonight and tomorrow is up to -20, and they're projecting -25 on Thursday. They actually cancelled evening classes due to the weather (very rare) and we're all hoping that they'll decide tomorrow's too miserable to have class (very very rare, so probably unlikely 🙁).

Fun times.

I refer to ISU as "Iowa" when I talk to people about vet schools. The same way I refer to UPenn as "Penn" and UW Madison as "Madison." There are so few vet schools that as long as people know what I am talking about, I neglect the details.

I am sorry if I offend anyone. I have nothing but love for Iowa State. 😀

I do the same thing as well. However, whenever I was in Iowa for my interview, my shuttle driver quickly corrected those of us who were calling the vet school "Iowa," so I've been trying to make sure I say "Iowa State" when I refer to the school (as well as other schools which are "state" schools).
 
I just graduated from the U of Iowa. As in the Hawkeyes. It's hard not to develop a deep sense of pride for the Hawks...
ISU is one of our biggest rivals. Naturally it bothers me when people get the two confused.

On another note, I was supposed to work at 7am this morning. My boyfriend has a 4x4 but that made no difference here. HUGE snowdrifts everywhere. Classes at Iowa got cancelled and that's an incredibly rare occurrence. Incredibly rare. Needless to say I didn't make it in to work. We'll see if I even make it to my shift later tonight... Stupid snow.

I hope ISU sends us the emails/letters early. I interviewed nearly 3 months ago and the anticipation is just killing me! :xf:
 
Half a snow day today!!!😍

I have to go in for Path lab this afternoon but the school was closed until 12 and some snow day is better than no snow day at all!

Good luck to everyone waiting. I know having to wait until the 15th is manic-inducing but hang in there, not too much longer now!

I can definitely see how you have a sense of pride for the Hawkeyes. The only team the Spartans lost to in football was Iowa, hence my booing 🙂.

I doubt we will get emails any sooner than February 15th. I have a huge comparative anatomy exam the next day, so I will either have to hold off celebrating for a night, or ignore my sadness/ disappointment for the day so I can ace my exam. Aye aye aye!
 
11 Days! (Are 4 of those are on the weekend, so they don't count, haha 🙂)
 
I am so excited for the 15th! I'm driving everyone I know mad right now!!
