Iowa c/o 2017 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
#31... 😕

So if you're declining your #31, that make my #34 a #33? 🙂 lol

Also, does anyone know of a way to try and track people that are declining so we can get a better idea over the next few days ? I suppose only those that post on this thread will give us any clues?

Will you turn down your other acceptances in favor of ISU if you get called? just curious 😀

Does anyone know from past years if the portal gives you any idea on where they are presently on the list?

No, portal does not update where they are because your position changes everyday with people declining spots, etc, etc... it would be impossible for them to keep up.

I did email about once every other week to once every 10 days to get an update.... they did not seem to mind and were very honest with where they were in the process. 🙂

Hey all: If anyone is on the alternate list and has denied that spot since the portal update last week or is planning on denying their spot, please post that on here so the rest of us can have a better idea of what number we're at. Thanks!

I figured I would pass along this information to all of the people on the wait list who are hoping for a phone call!

I just spoke with Kathy and she says that they will be sending out withdrawal of application e-mails to all of those who did not respond to their acceptance offers on Monday April 22nd at noon. There should be a number of spots opening at that point, so people on the wait list should expect a call within the few days following.

I know how much it sucks to wait. Good luck hope you get a call!

Thank you very much for the information! That helps a lot 🙂

Hey all!
I was offered a seat off the waitlist (#4) a couple days ago and declined. Hope it helps someone out!

Lilly: What number are you on the list? Did Kathy say what number they got down to for calls this week?

I just got accepted to my IS, so I will be turning down my waitlist spot. I was #68, so pretty high up there, but maybe it will help someone out.

I really loved Iowa State!

Good luck everyone!

Bvet- After two unsuccessful years of being rejected without being on the wait list, I was actually fortunate enough to be accepted in the first round. Sadly, I don't know exactly what number they are on :-(.

I contacted her because I am desperately trying to get one of the five Connecticut contract seats (which CT has still not approved budget for but thats besides the point). She did tell me that there are 5 CT residents alone that have not yet responded to their acceptance and will forfeit their spot on Monday at noon. So if there are that many in CT alone I'm hoping that there are more from other areas that haven't responded. My fingers are crossed for you!

In getting ready for this fall, does anyone know what typical dress code is? Also, does anyone know if the computers we purchase have to be returned after our 4 years or do we get the option to keep them? When is everyone moving down to Ames? Last question - how many of you are going to have cars and do you think it's necessary? I almost don't want to have a car at all if I can get a room in the mobile home park. If anyone is from Ames, any insight on getting to and from grocery stores from the mobile home park would be great! Thanks!

Business casual is recommended MTWF and professional dress is required on Thursdays. You can find the full dress code on VetZone once you have your netID.

The computer is yours. Why wouldn't you get to keep it?

It's a very good idea to have a car IMO. There is a bus system in Ames (CyRide) but it's really centered on getting people to/from main campus. There is a stop just outside of Old Orchard (not sure about Creekside) but I couldn't tell you where the route goes or when it runs. Each trip would probably take a few hours, and you'd have to plan for very specific times.

And shameless plug: If any of you are looking into buying a trailer, mine is for sale 🙂

Anyone know what number they are on?? :scared:
I wouldn't sweat it too much. It's still early. And the waitlist tends to move quite a bit; one of my classmates was in the 80s or 90s on the original list.

I was just taken off the list!! Status page update. My original number was 46, so they are moving pretty quickly! I can't believe I've actually been accepted 🙂 Good luck to everyone else waiting. I hope you get great news very soon! I'll be giving up my in state seat, so I hope this makes someone waiting on Penn's list very happy!!!!

I was actually considering buying a trailer - is yours one on the list on the housing website and if so which one? Send me more info! Thanks!

It's not listed there at the moment -- but if you PM me I can get you the details after I get home.

Anyone here have any insight on purchasing a trailer? Mainly, is it best to purchase one coming into vet school or wait until you're a second year and see what's out there and how it all works? Any other advice as far as that goes? Thanks!

Does anyone know what Iowa State's programs are for discounted vet care and food programs? Thanks!
