Hey all! Current ISU VM3 and vet ambassador here. Just to give you some relief so that you are not stressing as much until February decisions: If your application is in committee review, it will stay that way until February 15th when decisions go out. So you can "relax" until then! 😉

Is it normal that im still not in academic review? My status still says none and only one GPA is calculated. I was unsure if since I was not in committee review yet if that meant I didn't make the cut

The admissions committee goes through each application individually and have to manually update the portal every time. With 1600+ applications this year, they may just have not gotten to yours yet! You can always post a message on your portal to inquire about it 🙂

I know I understand that, just didnt know when they no longer are considering some applicants or if they let you know.

Thank you!

You're welcome!

I believe they do send out rejections for those that absolutely did not make a GPA or prerequisite requirement, I am just not sure when those happen. I should also add that things have been kinda crazy here in general with COVID (we have a shortened semester that ends before Thanksgiving so it has been extra busy), so that also may be part of the reason why it is taking longer!

Hi guys! Joining this thread a little late lol. I’m IS 20 y/o first time applicant. I’m a little concerned about a grade this semester. I ended up with a low grade in a non pre-req class and I’m worried it’ll negatively affect my application when I send my fall transcripts. I’m retaking it in the spring, but I’m still concerned. I’m mostly an A student with a couple Bs and one C. If anyone has some insight I’d really appreciate it 🙂

I am getting a little nervous it still just says received, anyone else in this position?

I was too until just a few days ago. Nothing had been updated and no GPAs entered. Then, suddenly I had been moved into committee review, and then my GPAs were entered. I was super stressed but I think the portal is just updated very slowly. Don't be surprised if it randomly happens all at once!

My application said In Committee Review and had my last 45 GPA calculated for about a week. This morning my Science GPA was calculated!

I’m still in just “submitted” with only my last 45 calculated. ¯\_(シ)_/¯ trying not to be too paranoid about it!

I was feeling this way. Maybe it is alphabetical? Mine only recently changed and my last name begins with S? Sorry! Not sure if that's helpful.

I don't think it's alphabetical, my last name starts with R and mine has yet to change apart from my last 45 being calculated 🙁
Ugh. I am sorry- this whole process is so stressful and it often feels like there isn't any rhyme or reason in relation to the timelines. I am sending you good vibes and hope that your application makes it to committee review within the next few days!

Yeah my last name starts with C haha. It's probably by the time you submitted, I turned both apps (supp &VMCAS) the morning of the day they were due. Or it's completely random! Or they've decided not to move forward! Only time will tell🙂

Hi everyone! I was crossing my t's and dotting my i's today and I noticed something that I hadn't before! Fall 2020 transcripts need to be sent to the school by Jan 20!
All y'all probably already knew this, but in case it flew under anyone else's radar, I thought I'd post it🙂

Hi everyone! As of this morning, I have moved to academic review and both of my GPA's are calculated and posted. There are also things posted in the "materials received/needed" section. I am not sure if I should message through the message board and see if there is further action needed for these or not? Does anyone else see this?

Do you have things listed as needed or missing? If yes, then message them about it.

Do you think I should message them? It says received on there but nothing else
I went ahead and sent a message, and they responded saying that those were courses that would be found on my fall and spring transcripts for this year, so it was just a reminder to send them on time!

Hi guys!
I broke and messaged them lol
For context, I'm OOS 1st time and my stuff still says:
app status: none
supp app: submitted
Science GPA not calculated
Last 45 calculated
And I messaged them basically asking if there was anything more I needed to submit, such as additional information or transcripts.
I got a message back saying because the VMCAs did not verify my app until October 9 (going by a different name than your legal name makes things complicated), mine was "one of the last applications that they need to review".
So anyone else, look at your VMCAs verified date email and you might be in the same boat!

Science GPA finally calculated! Worried about making the cutoff this year though because of the high number of applicants

i calculated my science gpa as 3.2-3.3 so it's significantly different...

I wonder how they’re calculating for you guys? I calculated mine myself before applying and it only differed by 0.03 so it looks like they just rounded down to the nearest tenths place. Is that how it was for y’all?

My last 45 was much lower too! (.6) I'm confused on how they calculated it.
I'm wondering if they count P/NP classes as a certain GPA value? I took a P/NP seminar last spring as a unit filler and if that's what gets my app thrown out I'll be so sad 😳

Anyone attending the Class of 2025 preview next week? Just wondering if we will need to dress up for it

I am! I am going to just incase. I am not sure if our cameras will be on. In previous Iowa webinars, our cameras were off and we were muted. But I want to be on the safe side.

Does anyone know if the webinar is for all OOS applicants? I also registered for it, just wanted to see if this was part of their process to narrow down applicants!

I don't think I recieved this email? I'm OOS, and also just recieved a message yesterday that I had a prerequisite deficiency and needed to confirm I would be taking Genetics next semester, but messaged with a confirmation and now I am in acedemic review. Are you all in committee review?

It is for all OOS applicants (unless you’ve been academically rejected...?). It’s not to narrow down applicants because it’s optional - Just information for vet school/ experiences from ambassadors etc. i attended it last year and it was fun!

Yes my profile says it is in committee review! Maybe check your spam folder just in case it got marked as spam!

Is there any way I could get someone to email that preview to me? I can't find the email anywhere and I haven't heard from them at all about rejection or anything? Also, my application still says submitted. Should I be worried? I did just message them but if anyone can offer any information that would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think so! I'm an in state student, but I went to there pre-vet day last year and it was basically telling you about the school, tours, visiting clubs, and they held a student panel. I think this year those are all split up into separate webinars? but don't quote me on that! 🙂

I believe you are correct. The email stated "This is the first in a series of 3 webinars specifically for our Class of 2025 hopefuls. Mark your calendars for a Financial Aid Webinar on January 12 and a Student Panel on February 16. "
