LECOM Bradenton Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
thanks drhenPharmD for sharing your experience with us 🙂

Was there a specific format that the essay should follow? Is it going to be a traditional 3/5 paragraphs essay or we basically just get straight to the point and answer the question in 1 paragraph?

Is there anything we could do to prepare for the essay portion?

Also, i don't know if people with a Bachelor's degree could apply without the PCAT last year, but this year they can. I am wondering if they have to write another writing sample? Do you happen to know the format of that essay?

thank you so much 🙂

Hello Henry,

I have posted this yesterday in the forum to ask you some questions.

The message goes:

"thanks drhenPharmD for sharing your experience with us

Just like the PCAT, the essay will focus more on your ability to formulate an organized writing sample than your knowledge of the topic. Outline 3 main points you want to deliver. Have an introduction, 3 body paragraphs and a conclusion. So yes, you should respond in a very traditional essay format.

Is there anything we could do to prepare for the essay portion?
Sleep well the night before

Also, i don't know if people with a Bachelor's degree could apply without the PCAT last year, but this year they can. I am wondering if they have to write another writing sample? Do you happen to know the format of that essay?

not that I have heard of yet...My guess is that there isn't an additional writing sample

thank you so much "

In addition to those, I am wondering if you could also tell us what we should bring to the interview? A backpack? Notepad? What would you recommend?
Bring a briefcase or something. Don't come in with an orange backpack strapped to your blazer. You really only need yourself, but bringing something shows you want to be prepared.

And also, regarding the essay portion, did you write it on a piece of paper or on the computer?

paper

Thanks for the third time
John

One more question: what is the grading system at LECOM pharmarcy? if it's letter grade, what is the passing grade? if it's pass/no pass, what is the cut off point to pass?

99% of the classes here use the ABCDF grading system. you need a minimum of a 70% or a C- to pass.

drhenPharmD is the essay for all applicants or just those that will not be taking the PCAT?

Hi guys,

Does anyone have interview on Oct 21st?

@ LECOM - B P1 students: could you tell us your experience from your interview last year?

Thanks

Just got a November 4th Interview. Did anyone else get one? 🙂

Niceee. See you there! I'm starting to stress now lol. I have an exam for my grad class the night before. So i'm going to have to fly in, in the morning, and fly out, in the same day. I hope JetBlue is not messing around that day!

From my understanding, DrhenpharmD DID take the PCAT. Therefore, I believe that everyone had to write the essay at his interview.

However, I've heard that during some interview dates, applicants are put in a group discussion in lieu of doing a writing assessment. Also, some other dates, applicants had to summarize an article.

Any P1/P2 could clarify this?

This makes more sense because on PharmCAS it says that people with a Bachelors degree are not required to take the PCAT. It goes on further to say that those previously mentioned individuals will take a writing assesment if selected for an interview. I took the PCAT and am retaking it Saturday and really do not want to have to write another paper.

Can any current students please verify if LECOM Bradenton has the same rules as LECOM Erie, such as the no food policy, blocked internet, and dress code?
Thank you in advance!

Sorry it's taking me a while to respond. I had an exam today and have a presentation tomorrow.

I did take the PCAT. I believe this is the first year LECOM is implementing the no-PCAT-for-Bachelor's policy.

All I can tell you from the interview is what I experienced. As far as I know, ALL of us had to complete a writing assessment.

LECOM Bradenton has all of the same rules as LECOM Erie.

Yes, the internet is filtered. Yes, there is a strict dress code. And yes, absolutely no food or drink (including water) outside the cafeteria.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, the filtered internet and the dress code are only during business hours. M-F, 6am-5pm.

thank you for the quick response!

I know there's a strict dress code, but can I still carry around my 7 year old Jan Sport bookbag or do they make you get leather man bags? I'm still down with bookbags. 😎 And do they make you wear professional jackets. I know at least in ERIE the weather is cold. Can you wear a columbia jacket or does it have to be something more uppity?

does anybody know what kind of article do they give us to read during interview??

Yes you can carry your 7 year old Jansport bag.
Weather right now hasn't dropped below 80 yet but you should dress professionally. Which means that you should not be wearing a hoodie over your dress shirt and tie. So you may want to invest in a nice jacket. But remember this is only during business hours... so you are free to wear anything after 5pm weekdays and anytime on weekends.

"does anybody know what kind of article do they give us to read during interview??"

Honestly you should not even worry about this portion of the interview process. The article that was given to our interview group was simple. Just summarize it and make a few questions regarding the article. The assignment is really nothing to stress about as long as can comprehend English. Good luck guys!

Hi
I just got invited to the interview at LECOM. The reason I didnt want to post this on the forum because I thought it's kind of personal. I was wondering if you could help me out with the following questions that I have

1) what are some good questions that I can ask from the interviewer

The interviewers are usually faculty members. If you have extra time, try to read over the faculty bios (under faculty experts from the drop down menu) for each of the LECOM bradenton pharmacy faculty members. That way, you can ask personalized questions regarding their area of interest, research, or duties at LECOM. For example, you should probably ask the director of experiential education about IPPE and APPE rotation sites.

We have a lot of faculty that practice in the community in an ambulatory setting. Informed questions regarding ambulatory care might be welcomed.

2) would the essay assessment format be like some kind of an article that we need to summarize or an essay to write. (I'm getting mixed responses in the forum)

I really don't remember. And to be honest, what does it matter? Be prepared to handle any kind of writing assessment. Keep in mind the goal is just to see if you can organize something clear, competent, and concise.

3) how can I prepare myself for the interview specially the essay portion of it.

The one on one interview with your faculty member will carry much more weight than the essay portion. Don't worry about the essay, worry about how you're going to prove that you'll make an excellent pharmD candidate and pharmacist.

4) how can I show them that Im very interested to be one of their students

Are you interested in being a student here? First tell me your reasons, then I can tell you how to show them you are interested.

5) I'm still debating where to stay whether wigate or Hampton Inn, I heard from Rob ( the taxi driver) that wingate has nothing around it. What would you recommend

I would go with whatever is cheaper. Both hotels will help you out with taxis or local restaurants etc..

thank you so much

thanks Henry.

You Are AWESOME 🙂

hi ,

i plan on driving to the interview. i am wondering if we need a permit for the parking? what do guest usually do?

There's a parking permit for current students and faculty, but I don't believe I had a permit of any kind when I interviewed.

I would just park in the parking lot, your car will be fine.

thanks a bunch.

I just got a few things cleared up for you guys.

1) There is no supplemental application this year. I apologize if the site is unclear.

2) There is no PCAT requirement for students who have a bachelor's degree. If you did NOT take the PCAT, you WILL have to complete the writing assessment.

3) If you DID take the PCAT, you do NOT have to complete the writing assessment during the interview.

4) You can interview with outstanding pre-reqs. Talk to Jackie Grosser if you won't be able to complete them before the end of the Spring 2011 semester. In my experience the school has been pretty strict on completing pre-reqs.

Also, a few miscellaneous details:

1) Enter through the side security entrance. You cannot enter through the main entrance. This will also apply when you are a student.

2) Wait in the security office(room to your immediate right after you walk in) before you're scheduled interview and get a visitor badge.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know. Good luck tomorrow.

Interviewed yesterday 10/21 at LECOM Bradenton-Pharm. Checked the portal today. Had this message:

The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 10 days.

Anyone have anything different?

Hello Henry,

Thanks for the tips on the interview and the tour yesterday. It was great.

My admission porfolio showed "The Admissions Committee has not made a decision on your file. We will notify you as soon as a decision has been made."

Could be a sign of a bad news. 🙁

The tour was great and I like what LECOM has to offer.

Any current students that can provide some feedback on what this means the day after the interview;

"The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 10 days."

Must control sarcasm reflex...

I went back and read the conversation of last year's applicants.
I believe that this means that your fate has been decided. You either get accepted 😀 or rejected 🙁
.

However, I did not encounter any post that associated this message with a rejection.

This means that your application is either on hold or you have been put on the alternate list.

Current students, please correct me if I am wrong.

Ohhhhhhhhh, so you are Henry!

Haha, holy .. it took me...this whole thread to realize that was you yesterday lol

@nguyenhuy: when did you check the portal? I checked mine around 1 pm today. This is just a wild guess: maybe this message appeared before they made the decision today?

@catalyst: can you give me the link from last year? Thank you!

Hey guys!
For those who have interviewed already, how long was the entire process including interview, tour, meetings, etc.? Is it humid right now? I'll be coming from California for the 11/4 interview so I'm just preparing for everything. Thanks a lot! 😀

Do you mind asking you what portal? You mean the PharmCAS website?

Thanks a lot!

I have the same thing. But I'm not really sure what was my status before my interview since I never checked the portal. I'm just gonna wait and call next week maybe.

Hopefully we'll know the result by the end of next week...G'luck to all of us...

I believe they said we are allowed to call in wednesday to find out our decision? or Friday?

What did you guys think of the tour?

I was there on Oct. 21st. It was a nice tour, way better than the other schools I interviewed at. Also, the presentation about the curriculum and financial aid was helpful.

When did you check it? Does it still say the same thing now? I just checked mine now and it said "The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 10 days." It prob. will say the same for everyone now. Not sure though.

btw, are you Kim? lol
