LECOM Bradenton Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well,thanks for your reply.

I'm from California. So, we dont deal with humidity too often. It's going to be a 6 hr flight to get there.

I already got into a school but I need several more schools to figure out which one is right for me. 🙂

Is Bradenton a nice area? I know that its close to the beach.

Does hurricane season something to worry about in Florida?

Yeah I saw that your status said LA so I figured you were from Cali... You will definitely notice the humidity because I notice it myself, but it's okay if you stay inside and blast the AC in your car! 🙂

Bradenton is nice but it isn't stereotypical Florida. Most people think of Miami or Ft Lauderdale when they think of Fl, but honestly I've lived in both of those places and I think the smaller towns are nicer for college kids because they're more affordable and college friendly. It's a newer area so it isn't as developed, but that's sort of a good thing.

The hurricanes don't come that often. We haven't really had a bad one since Wilma in 2005. I'm pretty sure LECOM is more inland towards the interstate so unless you live close to the water it's not that serious. My parents live like 100 yards from the ocean and we've only flooded once even still. If there is a serious threat the school with shut down and you can evacuate (or you might have to depending on where you live). I wouldn't let that deter you though. Hurricanes are usually fun actually.

Well i got my supp in on 11/25 and they called me for an interview 12/3! So they are pretty fast. It's def hard to say with the holidays coming up but Jackie is awesome at keeping you updated! Good luck! 🙂

I got the Jan 14th interview also!, is yours morning or afternoon??

That's awesome! Mine is the afternoon session! Yours? I hope it's afternoon too. 🙂 I'm so nervous even though its so far away still!

Thanks for your feedback. I am still debating on whether Florida would be a good school for me. I plan on flying out there and asking a ton of questions regarding the school. Their website has a lot of information about it but it doesn't go into specific details of the school. I know that the school was opened 2007. I assume its 4 year program, they haven't had a graduating class yet.

I wonder how they got accreditation? Was their accreditation based on their Erie campus?

I have no clue... I guess so... all of UF's distance campuses are accredited and they are not much older (maybe 2006?).

Anyway... I would definitely make a trip out here to see if you like it first. I have visited all of the cities I applied to a few times so it helps to take the anxiety out of applying. Like I said, most cities in Florida are give or take. Bradenton may not have the world class shopping, night life, and culture of south Florida but you will be able to have a MUCH nicer apartment, plus it's clean, new, safe, and I believe it's a better environment for studying and school.

Examples are everywhere (google is your friend) but a PS should be just that. The more you look at other people and their statements the more you forget about yourself. What I did to write my statement was calling my friends, girlfriend and my parents to see what they would say about me if they were asked to do so. That would help you find out where you came from, where you are at and where you wish to be. It sounds like a simple structure but it makes writing a PS much easier.

Hey, does this school requires a science professor for LOR? I am working on my supplemental application but is kind of hesitant if one of the LOR has to be from a science prof. Anyway, do you guy think it'll be too late to submit a supplemental at this time since most of the interviews has been conducted and space is filling up already? I'm still waiting on my other interview results but don't want to risk not getting anywhere😱

Yes, they specify an undergraduate science professor as a requirement. I'm assuming you already submitted your pharmcas? Cause that's where I sent my LOR to not the school. You should definitely try, and soon, since you are right about space filling up. I don't think it is too late though. Just ask as many science professors as you can and I'm sure one will write you a rec since all they have to do is email it in! G/L.

Congrats! Is this the first school you've heard back from? Where else have you applied? I have an interview in January! Is the interview just as laid back as most people say? I'm so anxious I wish my interview was NOW. lol. 🙄

Thanks!
I applied to other schools in Chicago and also to lecom erie. This is the first school I got accepted. Yes, the interview is very laid back. Make sure in writing section you just summarize it, don't add your opinions.

Good luck to you!!

Yea I had an interview early in November and was accepted two weeks later but I declined my seat...I want to stay closer to home and save money!!!

Hey everyone! I also received an interview for 1/14 early afternoon, but i'm still trying to decide if I will attend. Does anyone know how lenient they are about changing your interview date? I might have to reschedule if possible...

I don't know but I'd imagine they are pretty lenient. Jackie is definitely the one to talk to, she's super nice. G/L. Maybe see you soon (jan 14th!).

Yo guys, I'm working on the supplementals.

"Is there any information LECOM should consider that is relevant to your ability to complete the Pharm. D. program and be certified for licensure?"

The question is optional and to be honest, I don't really know of any "special" circumstances, but do you think I should respond anyway? I'm pretty much a run of the mill student who grew up living a normal life with the typical amount of extracurricular activities and pharmacy work experience.. nothing really impressive and noteworthy.

Well I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction, but I think I left that part blank on my supplemental. I assumed that referred to any mental or social impediment one may have, and Bradenton has all your pharmacy and academic experience on file anyway from PharmCAS. But I could be wrong. Probably the best thing to do is call them and make sure, this is your future we're talking about, and its best to make absolutely sure. Hope that helps 🙂

Has anyone who has been accepted to Lecom-Bradenton already received the Matriculation Packet? I sent in my deposit and I am anxious to look over the papers regarding next year.

Since interviews will be in full swing for pretty much everyone here, I thought I'd drop in and say hello. I'm also a P1, and I just finished my first semester at LECOM. On the whole, I liked it a lot. As with any school, you'll get some professors that you don't really like, but I found that I liked a lot more than I didn't.

For those that want to know my stats (someone's bound to ask)
BS in chem. GPA was 3.0
PCAT comp 97
I had ZERO biology in undergrad, so I took biology and A&P 1 at a local community college. Used those professors for my LoRs since I graduated in 2004.
I also had next to zero pharmacy experience. As of my interview, I had a whopping three days pharm tech experience at CVS.

Despite pretty good stats, I bombed my interview and I didn't just end up on the waiting list, I was number 100 out of 113. Or somewhere around there. They won't give you an 'exact' number. But they'll tell you where you are (top 20, top 50, bottom 50, bottom 20) (last 10 in my case 🙁)

I was in one of the last interview groups and I was at the end of the wait list that was as long as the current class of 2013. It looked grim, but about 5 weeks later, I got my call that I was in.

So if you get an interview, there's a pretty good chance you'll get in... sooner or later. If you end up on the wait list, that's almost as good as being in. Everyone on the wait list got in last year, even me.

As for your interview, be prepared for hard questions. There will be one about cheating, and there will probably be one about a problem you had and how did you resolve it. Also, your interviewer will probably be pretty stonefaced. Relax if possible and just hope for the best.

And protip, for the love of God, when they say 'Why LECOM' they really mean 'why pharmacy AND why LECOM.' Don't answer that one poorly while waiting for your 'Why pharmacy' question. It's not coming. Screw that one up, and you're on the wait list. Trust me.

If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a message.

Hey guys I'm going down to bradenton tonight for my interview tomorrow! Anyone else going tonight? Who all is at the 12:45 interview time? I can't wait to meet everyone!! 😀

Do you know they will inform the accepted ones first the rejected later or they mail out the same time. I like LECOM.
Thanks

Hey just email jackie and she'll tell you! I got alternate 😕 buttt oh well better than nothing i suppose! I know ppl already received there acceptance letters but I received nothing, i just emailed jackie to find out. Also check your portal to see what it says. Mine says something like they have not yet made a decision, they will notify me as soon as a decision has been made. G/L. I like LECOM a lot too.

Hey Brunetteb, it's definitely better than nothing! I'm sure they mentioned it at your interview, but last year everyone got in off the alternate list.

Hi,

You know i did check my portal last night and saw nothing,Today i gotthe rejected letter..i feel down but i can guess the reason..my PCAT composite might be not convincing i got low in verbal. I dont know how they count elements to select candidate.
Anyway, i had one interview in USN this week. I did even better than what i did in LECOM and another in Touro CA invitation for intervew.

just keep hoping

Sorry to hear about your rejection.

I just received a letter from LECOM saying that I was placed as an alternate. I have already been accepted into another school.

Good luck to all other candidates still waiting.

🙂

Hey everyone, ill be interviewing on this week on the 28th. I dont think that being an alternate would be that bad bc if you read a P1s previous post, he got in and was practically last on the waitlist. Keep your heads up! :xf:

I also got the interview this Thursday in the morning. Kinda nervous. Good luck to all.

My admissions status says that my app is currently under review by the admissions committee, does anyone know how long it takes after it says this until you find out if they offer a interview?

I got a letter from LECOM Bradenton saying that I'm on HOLD. Is this worst than being on the alternative list?

I'm not sure but it sounds like it's a better place to be compared to the alternate list. You should be considered for admission again with the next group of candidates rather than having your file put away until the class is full (and then considered when people accept elsewhere)

As far as i know, there is no set time on when they will offer an interview after you submit.

Are there any prereqs you still need to fulfill or pcat scores still coming in? they might be waiting for something to be completed before they make their decision.

Also anyongon the wait list should still be excited. Jackie told us at my interview everyone got in that was on the waitlist last year. You can email her too to find out where you fall on the list. LECOM begins accepting students very early so people send in their deposits to hold thier place but might drop out when they hear from other schools. Don't lose hope! Good luck!!

I really really liked LECOM and loved the area as well. Hope I get this. :xf:

Yeah, for everyone on the wait list, just keep waiting. The list moves in big jumps. Every few weeks, Jackie sends out an email asking that you reply by Friday if you want to stay on the list. This is to knock out people that got accepted elsewhere. The first one knocked out a few people, but the second one pretty much cleared the entire list in one day. That was the day I got in. The last member of our class got accepted a week later, I think.

I know it's hard and stressful (I was convinced that just because it happened LAST year, that didn't mean it would happen THIS year). But so far, all three classes have completely worked through their respective alternate lists. That's a pretty good sign. Just keep waiting. Oh, and if you can get some pharmacy experience, that will help you TREMENDOUSLY. The first semester, there are a few pharmacy practice courses that can be made easier if you know a lot of brand/generics. It even carries over a bit into at least the second semester. The more you know going in, the easier it will be.

anyone who had their interview on 1/28 heard anything? My portal message changed on Monday and now it says that a decision has been made and I will be notified within ten business days. I still did not get anything in the mail and I live in Florida. Hopefully that's not bad news.

Hey Coral,

My portal still says that I'm still being considered. Maybe, you've been accepted! I hope that's the case. Now only time can tell. Cross your fingers, I think its good news.

I dont know if anyone got a rejection letter post interview?

I had my interview on 1/28 and I got my letter in the mail today. I do live about 40 mins away from LECOM so probably why I got it so fast. I actually called Jackie this morning to find out my status but she wasn't in her office. She did email me back tho. Good luck to all!

I interviewed on the 28th also but my portal says that the committee has not made a decision on my file. I'm in CA also so it might take a while to get a letter. Guess i'll have to wait until Monday...

I think the reason you were rejected is lower scores in chem and bio section on your PCAT (may be....)

I got my letter today too and I got put on the alternate list 🙁

I just got my letter: I'm in. 🙂

Sooo sad though to decline my seat (loved the school & loved the area. And what can beat going to the beach to study? 😉) but I got into UF as well and I think in the long run it's better for me to pick the really respected/high ranked school. So sad to do this though, I'm so tempted to say yes to this school.
