LECOM - Erie Discussion thread 2008-2009

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
abcdzain, yea i know a few people who go there. i have observed a few 3rd and 4th years at my local hospital a couple weekends ago when i went back home. they like the school and they have gotten used to the dress codes and other rules they impose on the students, they seem to almost forget they are following them. I know a few guys n girls that are going there majority of them aren't indopak but about 1/3 of them are.

The LECOM portal says that we will receive an email 10 days before our interview to confirm. My interview is on the 16th and I have yet to receive any type of email. Just wanted to check if people were actually getting confirmation emails before their interviews?
Thanks

I received an email about 5-6 days before my interview from Dr. Moore. He just wanted to know where I was staying so LECOM could send a gift package.

To everyone who is receiving interview invitations recently, when was your application considered complete and how soon after that did you receive an invite?

Still jealous I didn't get a gift package last year

Haha yea I enjoyed the snacks and water. I have never even taken the slippers out of the package. They are still on my bedroom floor in the bag.

But they did give us a Littmann Cardio III this year
Was that part of your tuition and fees or was it free? I already have a DRG Puretone that was given to me by the free health clinic where I volunteer.

Don't freak out if you do not get an email, or if it arrives late. mine came on the morning of the interview, after the interview started. Dr. Moore addressedit and said there was a problem with the server, but as the other said the email was to confirm where you were staying.

I used the slippers.....never wore slippers, unless you count the pajamas with the footies.....

You may want to call Colleen at the main number to confirm your interview, if you haqve not already done so.

Question for some of the current students regarding the new wellness center. I know we get a membership once it opens. Does anyone know if it just for you, or for your family as well....I probably know the answer, but thought I would ask.

Thanks.

I'll give you my unopened gift pack if you give me your Littmann. 🙂

Hey everyone, I have my interview tomorrow at LECOM at 8am so good luck to anyone else who is going to be there too. I'm pretty sure I'm staying at Residence Inn if anyone wants to practice interview questions.

If this is the wrong thread to ask the following question I apologize and would appreciate being directed to the appropriate location:

I was recently accepted to LECOM-Erie and wanted to find a description of curriculum and required textbooks for first year, first semester LDP students. I was unable to find it on LECOM's site.

Thanks!

Don't worry about the text books they'll send you a book list over the summer. The ones for this year may change for next year

Just so you can get an idea, here's the website where you can find our current textbook lists:

http://my.lecom.edu/lecom/application/bstoreldp.asp

However, professors can change books from year to year, so don't purchase anything until you receive your own list this summer.

The keyword here is "recently", i.e. mid to late december, early january.

I was complete around 11/28ish. Invite on 12/8. My interview is on 2/12. I would imagine that these time lines become longer as the application season progresses.

Hope that helps

papillon2, thanks for the site. If I remember correctly, LECOM used to have posted an actual schedule on what an MSI, LDP class schedule was like. Do they still have this anywhere??

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that someone posted this already, but at the Erie campus they do not strictly use the "nine questions" right? I have my interview tomorrow and I'm studying FAQ.

As far as I know, they don't use those specific 9 questions anymore. I was asked about my understanding of osteopathic medicine, what drew me to medicine, what pathway would work best for me, a description of my life, my clinical experience, what strengths and weaknesses I have, etc. I also talked about my specific reasons for choosing LECOM and Erie. Good Luck

Thanks for the insight. I also noticed that a lot of people were asked about their communication skills and to describe a conflict that they had to over come. Anyway I'm not too worried out it, mostly every post of the interview feedback section stated that it was relatively stress free and comfortable.

Oh yea I totally forgot about that question. I was asked about a conflict I faced, so I talked about when I was a customer service lead/senior at Best Buy and had to help a customer out with their product. They seemed to like my answer because they referenced it later when I was talking about my strengths. It was by far the most relaxing interview I have been to (including my premed comittee interview). Just be yourself and have fun because it is not bad at all.

No problem! The schedules were not posted online this year; however if you PM me with your email address, I wouldn't mind sending you a copy from last semester.

Papillon2 could you send me a copy also? I will send you a PM. Thanks

Has anyone received any other paperwork to fill out after submitting their deposit? I saw on the LECOM portal that I need turn in transcripts, immunization records, and other forms...

I haven't, but do we need to send in all transcripts?

Yea I think we have to send all transcripts after we are done with college to LECOM. I haven't received any other forms either.

hey does anyone have pics of the new rec center they just opened?

HA.... that rec center won't be open till next fall. It was supposed to be opened last Aug when we started but that fell through. Then it was supposed to be opened in Jan and that didn't happen, they say Feb but I'm not holding my breath

Wow, that sucks. I hope it is really nice though when it is done......were gonna some kinda good stress relief 🙂

is anyone going to seton hilL??

is there a website or something with more information about the campus?

I'm going to Seton Hill. Haven't seen a website that provides more information though.

All I know is that later in the spring LECOM will have more info for us regarding apartments, that they will be adding more rotations sites for students who want to stay in the Greensburg area, and that we can use the facilities at the university.

So I sent in my deposit and it was received last Tuesday but the check has not been cashed. Does LECOM just hold onto the check until I matriculate or will they cash the check soon?

They received my check on December 15th, but they didn't cash it until yesterday (1/13).

DrJazzah, If you go to Seton Hill, are you worried that you won't have enough contact with LECOM professors?

i am thinking about retaking mcat (old one was only 24) in march or april, will LECOM or any other DO schools take it?

I have applied to most DO schools and I have completed all primary and secondary applications.

Thanks.

You have to check the application cut off date. That late most of the seats will be full for the class of 2013 and the app deadline would have passed.

Best bet is to apply for class of 2014

I agree with slevin. Applying so late puts you at a competitive disadvantage.

I was wondering if you need to send your mcat score to LECOM before your interview? My interview is next thurs and on the admissions page in the portal is says not received.

Thanks

Does anyone with familiarity with the PCSP program know a lot about the clinical rotations? I know the number of electives/selectives is greatly diminished, but are you locked into a specific pathway regarding the order and location of your clerkships or is there still any freedom to pursue clerkships in a hospital of your choosing outside of the Erie area?

Also, the webpage for PSCP references exposure to local clinical sites "where you will continue your residency training" (paraphrasing) which leads me to believe you are required to do your primary care residency at one of their local, affiliated institutions. Is that true or can you apply for residency anywhere in the country? Thanks in advance if anyone knows these answers.

I just had an interview at LECOM and we talked with a second year student in the PSCP program. He said that you do residency at local community health clinics affiliated with LECOM. He mentioned that you start clinical rotations 16 months after you start. Majority of rotations are geared to primary care. I don't remember him saying if the rotations have to be done in erie or if you could go somewhere else, however he mentioned that out of convenience most people stick around.

Did you interview today 1/15?

If so when you walked into the OMM lab us 1st years wanted to scream run away... but all interviewees look nervous, it's actually kinda cute.

I'm a 2nd year PCSP student and might be the one who spoke to you when you came to interview (There are 2 of us who do that). RESIDENCY is done wherever you match, PCSP or not. You have ZERO obligation to stay in Erie for residency. Neither of us would have said otherwise. Clinical ROTATIONS are done at LECOM affiliated locations, I appologize for any confusion.

Does anyone know if Erie offers the OMT fellow program after your first two years?????
