LECOM Erie Discussion Thread 2011-2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Dr Yiot, I am starting to get worried too. My mcat is very low. I have a 24 after retaking it (6 VR, 8 BS, 10 PS), but my GPA is a 3.76, and and science is a 3.7. My low MCAT score is making me think twice about getting accepted anywhere this cycle 🙁
i actually think you have a better chance then I do man. your gpa is great. youll get in somewhere this year as long as you applied smart
gl

your file is under review!

cmon LECOM, Id love to bass fish lake erie in the summers lol

or when I have down time, which will probably be never!

Was notified today (7/12) that my supplemental application has been processed and is "under review."

Supplemental app was submitted 6/28. I really hope to get an interview invite!

So I checked my portal for LECOM - Bradenton and under LECOM - Erie it said this:

"We have reviewed your application and are interested in you; however you have applied too late in the year to be considered. Please reapply starting in June for the next academic year."

I applied to LECOM - Erie kind of late last year. Does this mean I should try applying to Erie again? It's hard to get excited about re-applying to a school when you didn't get in the first time, but maybe I will this time.

Right on with the bass fishing! I'll be out there too if I ever end up with any down time in the summer.

I say you definitely re-apply. They are telling you they were interested. You could even call and ask if there was anything else that might have held you back. If you apply early and see if there was anything else, I would definitely bet that you get interviewed, and would probably even push some chips in on an acceptance.

To all you guys who got interview invites for LECOM so far,
did the first email you received say something along the lines of you being "invited for an early interview on July 29th because the admissions committee has looked favorably on your application"? I received a second email this past Monday and it basically said the same thing again but had more details about the day and overnight information for long distance applicants and whatnot... just found it odd I got two separate emails about the interview that seemingly were not related haha. thanks!

good to see another angler on the forumns! maybe if we both get in we can have some serious fish fries lol

When did you submit yours? According to last year's thread, people were invited for interview ~14 days after they had finished their secondaries.
Hope this helps!
sorry i missed this man. submitted primary 6/2, released to schools i think the 23 or something (when everyone else was who submittes early june) and submitted my secondary 6/30. hopefully we both get shown some love!
Hey there, dont worry man! I think they are just going to look at it sequentially. Maybe your file was later in order or something. I have heard 22-24 people get in last year as well. Dont worry!
22-24 people get in last year? what do you mean?

I am kinda on the same boat, but mine was released on the 1st July. So let's see! hope we get to know about it quicker faster and cooler! lol

Sorry I wasnt very clear. I meant people with a score of 22-24 MCAT definitely got in!

Can anyone tell me how long does it take for them to go from under review to a decision? Thanks!

It can vary quite a bit. I know for some people it will take about 2 weeks but last cycle when I applied I finished my secondary and was "under review" by the first week in July and I did not receive an interview invite until late October. So don't give up right away if it seems like its taking longer than normal to hear a response.

i got two separate emails too. One was just to see if you were interested in interviewing on that date. The second one was detailed information. In the first email, it was said that if we were interested, they would sent a more detailed email.

Thanks a lot! I just wanted to check and see if other people received the same types of emails.. Also, anyone know how long after the interview we will be notified of acceptance or rejection? Especially for the summer interview dates? Thanks!

Just submitted my primary application yesterday to here. A little later than I was hoping, but not too late yet I suppose.

Hoping they show me some love!

Last year it took about 2 weeks.

Hello everyone! I was just wondering if all of you turned in your LORs the same time as your secondary application... I'm not sure if I should just send them now or wait until they ask for them?

If you read the instructions in their email or on their website, you'll find that LECOM doesn't want LORs unless you are invited for an interview.

Speaking of the LORs... I was invited to interview on the 29th, so I just sent in my letters a day ago. Does anyone know how long it takes them, on average, to process the letters once they are sent via interfolio?

Don't know really how to answer that. I waited a week after sending my LOR through interfolio until I called, they changed my info as LOR received 30 min later. BTW, you will be interviewing on my fifth day as a medical student, we will probably see you there🙂

Looks like it changed this afternoon. Took them a day and a half to process, that makes me feel better because my D.O. just sent my LOR to interfolio this past Friday. I think I will have plenty of time to get it to them.

I am sure you will be the one studying extremely hard already, that's how I will know you if I see you.

👍
Right, you'll recognize me then - or I'll be on SDN 😀

Wow that's a long time. Looks like it all went well for you though.

do you know after what date is considered too late?

That is going to vary from year to year and your own personal app and stats. I sent my secondary in December and got in, but I would definitely recommend earlier than that!
Also, they started waitlisting people in January last year.

Anyone else getting more excited and more nervous by the day for the interview this friday?? any guesses on whether it will be individual or group? I'm trying to figure how I should prepare/anticipate the kinds of questions they will ask! :O

I am incredibly anxious. I think that being invited for early interviews is a great sign though. I have been looking over questions that people were asked in the previous years and getting an idea of what I would answer without rehearsing anything. There seem to be quite a few that show up over and over again. Namely, 3 positive traits you have and 1 negative. Why med school? Why DO school? Why LECOM? Quite a few people also seem to have been asked to describe a conflict that they have had with a person, or a variation, a conflict that they had with a professor. It does not seem like they are trying to nail anyone to the wall.

Agreed, I'm doing basically the same thing... just trying to get an idea of what I want to say if any of these types of questions are asked.. I'm extremely anxious as well! this is my first medical school interview, and I want to try and go in confidently. I'm hoping that the early invite is a good sign too! we must be doing something right.. let's just seal the deal with the interview and lock in an acceptance!

Can you tell me which thread you looked at for previous interview questions and such. I tried searching but I found ones that were about 10 years old.
Thanks

Still under review..have been for at least 2.5 weeks now! I hope they look at it nicely..either that or they are waiting for my new MCAT score!

I've been under review for about the same time. I submitted on the 28th and have been waiting ever since. I'm not retaking my MCAT, so they must not like me since they haven't said anything yet.

*overdramatic sigh*

Hey! This is actually good..I have a feeling that they are still reviewing everyone's applications, reading statements and activities and what not! Lets not lose hope here! I am sure we will hear back soon!
P.S. Love JD the spiffy boy 😛

This.
Also, don't forget that Admissions has been really busy the past month trying to get the entering class up and going.

Leaving in the AM for the interview on Friday!! :xf:

Me too! I'm freaking out that it's actually almost here... just going to try not to hyperventilate whenever I start to imagine what the interview is going to be like! lol

It will be good! It's a very relaxed interview setting! Are there are several sample questions asked that are either here or in last year's LECOM application thread.
I would recommend doing some kind of physical activity the evening before the interview so that it can help relax you and most important helps give you a good night sleep. I also did a little swimming at the hotel which was also relaxing.
Eat breakfast - even if you don't feel like it!!! Drink fluids in the morning as well! Eat a good supper the night before so that you can have a lighter breakfast if you absolutely must. You won't be able to eat at the interview until lunch time because food is not permitted in the rooms you will be in.
They way they arranged it for us last season was to have different presentations first, pathways, the school, etc. Then we broke down into groups for the interview. First they asked each person to introduce themselves, then they asked each one of us an individual question (2X). Lastly they just brought up different topics and whoever had anything to comment on it could. Then we had a tour (I believe) then lunch with students. Then it was over!

Just received an interview for the 19th of August! So psyched!

Interview invite! 19th August..although I will be out of the coutnry then..
this sucks 🙁 but at least this is a good booster a day before my MCATs! lol

i am really getting worried now..i submitted my secondary a month ago. my GPA is fairly high at a 3.76, but I guess they really arent liking my mcat verbal score. i guess i will end up retaking in sept then. do u guys mind sharing ur stats?

I dont think VR will be a problem..my VR is 6 and havent taken the 2nd MCAT yet..you can look at my stats thru the MDapps link on my profile!
I have heard that people had to wait till October if they submitted their secondary in July for an interview invite.

Right on! One step closer to fishing that lake. I'm hoping to hear something next week maybe? I was processed 9 days ago...i.e. have been "under review" for 9 days. We'll see! Good luck!!
