Hey gudmorning...bratdoc,teethie,pb2007,elmos,imfdoc,svetlana........when are u all writing ur part-1???Is anybody a foreign trained dentist??

@neeli....guess iam gona have tha same prob wid ma TOEFL yar....gota repeat it again!🙁

Terminal differentiation occurs during which
stage of the cell cycle?
A. G1
B. S
C. G0
D. G2
E. Mitosis

I faced this Q not so far ago.
As i understood it's G0,coz some cells like neurons terminate differentiation in this phase.

Yes you are correct. VBF deficiency does not allow aggregation of platelets hence the increased bleeding time.

Hey Annie im also a ftd fom Ind

Which of the following glands has paracrine
function?
A. Gastroenteropancreatic glands.
B. Adrenal glands.
C. Gonads.
D. Salivary glands.
E. Pituitary glands.

Answer given is A.. i agree.. but C is also true according to the information i read in Kaplan! Right?

Terminal differentiation occurs during which
stage of the cell cycle?
A. G1
B. S
C. G0--This is the answer
D. G2
E. Mitosis

What on earth is "Terminal differentiation"? Can someone please explain?
Thank you IMFdoc and Svetlana.... can you please add some more details on what is terminal differentiation

The factor that is missing or deficient in haemophilia (factor VIII in haemophilia A; factor IX in haemophilia B) is essential to the formation of a fibrin clot, the tough threads that hold the platelet plug in place. The factor that is missing, deficient or abnormal in von Willebrand disease, von Willebrand factor, is essential to the formation of the platelet plug itself.👍👍

agree👍 and u have to check with schools if your score is valid for more than 3 yrs.

1. Yes, if you give your exam in feb 2011, you comfortably can apply for admissions throughout 2011..
2. From what I heard, NBDE scores are valid for 5 years. But some people with scores dating even before that have also applied. Really don't know how that went.
3. Yes you will need to repeat the TOEFL again as the scores are valid for 2 years, and a valid score will only be accepted at the time of admission. That is why I also gave my exam again!! Also, most people recommend you give the TOEFL after your NBDE exam.

There are many more experienced people on this forum who can guide you much better with the application procedures. Catch hold of one of them!😛

Hi Bratdoc, one thing if u r reading from NBDE first aid que sand answers, expect osme information misleading or wrong there and it has got some mistakes too. now see below for ur questions:

svetlana i have a ques for u,few days back u'v put some ques regarding spermatogenesis had to do something with meiosis ,i'v luked frm page 39th onwards ,could'nt find it ,if u remember it plz put that up here .
thnks bratdoc n teethie for putting terminal differentiation ques ,had no clue what this word meant .

Well,if im not mistaken it was
"which cells undergo meiosis?
And all cells from spermatognia to spermatids were listed.
The ans. was primary spermatocytes.

But if to be specific they undergo primary meiosis
and secondary spermatocytes-sec.meiosis

i have a doubt in decks card# 1 of dental anatomy. strange, first card is a big doubt for me😕
why is answer not max central incisor there? it cingulum is also off the centre.

correct.. but since sec. meiosis is in itself a part of the Meiosis (Meiosis=primary +secondary) therefore the answer primary spermatocytes makes sense!! since that is where the Meiosis starts! and the later stages of meiosis(including sec. meiosis) come under that only!!! Do not think of primary and secondary meiosis as separate processes... they both are a part of the Meiosis going on(reductional and equational)

Buddy can u plz post the question i dont have the decks in handy 🙁

teethie it a correction ,check deck site for this
http://www.dentaldecks.com/Pages/Morecorrections.aspx

here's the ques bratdoc
a stray crown found in office,it is anterior tooth and has cingulum that is offset from centre.what tooth is it most likely to be
max canine
max lat
mand lateral
mandibular central

which incisor has a cingulum that is offset from center?
options: max central, max lateral, mand lateral, mand central

ans: mand lateral

but in explanation they mentioned that max central, mand lateral and mand canine also have cingulum located off the center.

teethie visit decks correction site ,they keep updating mistakes .i was too confused with this but atlast found it was a correction

thnks bratdoc n svetlana .i'm always confused with the terms spermatogoonia ,spermatopcyte n spermatid, spermatozoa

so i think i kno it now
spermatogonia....is basically germ cells whicg is changed to spermatogcyte wen it enters meiosis........then finally spermatid or spermatogonia or spermatozoon sperm is finally formed .

am i rite guys with this sequence ,plz correct me ,it s too confusing for me ,too many words to remember .

Here is how i learnt
Primary Spermatocyte=Primary meiosis
Secondary Spermatocyte=Secondary meiosis
same for oocyte

I am also confused in these words so many words....

let me find out, some thing missing.....

here is the sequence:
Spermatogonium: (a primitive sperm cell).
this will undergo mitosis only and
form primary spermatocyte (2n)
now primary spermatocyte undergoes meiosis 1 to
form two secondary spermatocytes with 1n each.
then both of these two secondary spermatocytes undergo meiosis ii to
form 4 spermatids 👎

now these spermatids do not undergo any division and become transformed to spermatozoa or sperm by the process spermiogenesis.

thanku so much teethie ,these words confuse me all the time ,i better write this sequence down somewhere.
check corrections for more decks, they have updated some more

Where is the Height of Contour/Contact for Lingual surface of Mandibular 1st Premolar?
Different sources say different things!

can anyone confirm if I am right that mandibular primary1 st molar erupts at 1 year and it is followed by max 1 st molar. it is not the other way around..right??

pb2007, i remember we had discuused something like this before when u pointed out wheelers eruption theory and i asked u to look into diagram not theory.

asda keys have always considered primary mand 1st molar at 1 year.

anyone confirm pl??

Hey guyz....how important is lowerlimb??was actually solving sm bits...saw few questns from lowerlimb....dat2 detailed ones...i mean kinda hard ones!....how much can ve expect in da exm?

can anyone confirm if I am right that mandibular permanent 1 st molar erupts at 1 year and it is followed by max 1 st molar. it is not the other way around..right??

Do you mean primary??
according to Kaplan
MAxillary primary 1st molar=13-19 months
Mandibular primary 1st molar=14-18 months
so cant really say!

ooppppppppps yeah primary.
asda key in many questions have considered it at 1yr that is 12 months😕

yes i learnt it like that only
Eruption at
6, 12 18, 24!!
I, M1, C, M2
makes it easier to learn
Hmmm ASDA key would be correct if it says 12 months coz its the closest!! But then again it depends what the EXACT question is and what the other options are?! like if the question specifically asks for the eruption time of the molar and has options of both 12 months and 13-14 months then it should be 13-14 months! otherwise 12 months is fine!

Yes🙂.. this is exactly what Kaplan says... but i read somewhere else its occlusal... can you confirm it from Wheeler's plz? i dont have it with me!
its the same in wheelers ....nowhere mentioned occlusal
but yes on the buccal side it is slightly occlusal ...not on lingual

yes teethie we hav discussed this before too n u r rite wheelers n asda key says different things .u told me that u checked frm i guess mcdonaldes or some pedo buk u reffered n said that mandibular molars erupt around same time max incisors. mostly mand molars cum first n then max molars .even wheelers diagram showed molar erupting around same time as incisor .
but i'm always confused with this .jst mugged up according to asda key.

Another question which has different answers

Size of the Lingual and facial embrasure of mandibular anteriors
is it:
-Facial and lingual embrasure same size??
-Facial greater than the lingual??

--------------------------------

Permanent Maxillary Central incisor root is:
-Round on cross section??
-Triangular on cross section??

I have seen place where both are correct

pb2007: u mean max molars.
yes now i remember i found it in mc donalds. yes it i s there.

bratdoc: i looked i wheelers abt premolar but did not find anything on lingual surface

annie: which page did u find? can u let me know.

Haha....confusin!
I meant buccal height of contour is slightly occlusal to the cervical than the lingual height of contour....

Hmmm but if
Lingual contour= Junction of Cervical and Middle Third
Buccal contour=Cervical third
Then how do you say that buccal is more occlusal??
