There's an urban legend in medicine that putting you work in the health care field is the absolute worse thing you can do. They say that since literally every health care postion in every country is understaffed that if they have the choice between someone who already works in it and someone else with interest they'll take the latter. Not sure how true it is across the board but that's how the rumour goes!

I do know that medical schools hate poaching from other medical schools so if for some reason you're reapplying back home you're going to have to omit the Irish med school acceptance to have a chance.
 
Well, considering they take PAs, RTs, STs, and the like all the time here, I'm assuming that isn't exactly true. The only thing I've heard about is schools rejecting nurses because of the nursing shortage, and I don't know how true that is even, since I don't know any nurses that applied to medical school.

Also, I'm pretty sure they ask if you've applied to medical school before (though, I may very well be wrong). If they do, and you omit it, that's falsifying an application. If the find out, then you definitely don't have a chance, whereas plenty of reapplicants get accepted.
 
I got selected for the RCSI interview for the 6-year med program at Sheraton Hotel in New York. I am a high school student from British Columbia, Canada. I am way more nervous for the interview than everyone else.😱 I should be because even though i have good marks, i am antisocial and not good at making eye contact!!!!!!!!!

It is certainly an accomplishment that you've been selected for an interview. I wish you best of luck.

Remember, you are a deserving candidate, you meet their criteria, and you are qualified. Which is the reason why you have been selected for the interview in the first place.

My advice will be to believe in yourself, speak with confidence, don't panic, and focus on all of your good qualities.

I haven't heard anything yet either. My 23rd birthday is Sunday, so I was hoping to hear something today or tomorrow. 🙁 There's still hope--I haven't gotten the mail today yet. :luck:

OMG, one of the most disappointing things in the world happened yesterday. I came home and there was a slip in the door saying that I had a certified, registered letter at the post office. I go, and the guy tells me that he needs my ID because it's a letter from another country. I just about had a heart attack as he went to get it.

Well, he comes back and says, "It's from Poland. Are you going to be a doctor in Poland?" I was like, "No, I don't know what the hell that is." It turns out, I had ordered something online and didn't realize that it was coming from Poland. I was so sad. 🙁

There's still today, but I doubt anything will come--it's only the 17th.

hehe, wow that must have been a stomach-turner! I was looking at the acceptance, rejection, etc thread and it looks like people were being notified at the end of March, beginning of April. So, definitely letters are in the air or will be shortly.
 
...unless, of course, you are waitlisted. Then, nothing is in the air but disappointment. Frankly, I think I'd rather have a rejection than be waitlisted, to be honest. At least then, I'd know where I'll be in the Fall, you know?

I'd rather be hopeful than know for sure that I have not been accepted to a medical school.
 
I agree with you 100%. Not knowing until August or later would be an awful predicament---concerning the back-up plan or even in getting settled in Dublin later than you'd like. I too, would rather have a yes or no answer.

Somebody will be ready to scream at me, but do you think that UCC or UCD already sent out some rejections a month ago???
 
I am not aware of any rejections being mailed yet. Atleast Mr. Keenan didn't tell me of any when I inquired about my status.
 
Hey, anyone have an idea on when Trinity will give out their offers and rejections? And which med school do you think is relatively "easier" to get into?
 
I don't think they sent out anything yet--that is, I don't think anyone has gotten anything yet. They may have sent things, i.e., put them in the mail recently, but I don't think anyone's heard anything either way yet. I'm hoping it will be the end of this month and not the end of April--that would majorly suck.

And yes, I'd rather know now that I was rejected than wait until August and find out that I was rejected. Now, if I wait until August, and I'm accepted, I guess I'll probably feel differently. 😉 Even that would be less than optimal, since my family and I will pretty much be convinced of a rejection, and then all of the sudden we have to face the fact that in less than a month, I'll be moving to another country.

Anyway, happy birthday to me--no mail today, and nothing came yesterday.
 
I completely understand what you mean.
My assumptions were based on the few UCC rejections posted here...but then again, I believe that it was because someone had not taken the MCAT which was needed for the 5 year program.
I can just speculate and speculate. 🙄
 
actually, applicants who have not taken the MCAT yet are in the "limbo" category. They have not been rejected nor accepted. Basically their decisions will be made in May.

Secondly, I think Trinity might send us some news by next week. At this point I am not even sure if I want to do the entire Ireland thing anymore. So I have stopped checking my mail, and I have definitly stopped bugging ABP about my application status.

I have received an acceptance for the five year program at NUI Galway, I got it in the mail last week! I am interviewing for RCSI next weekend, but haven't heard from any of the other schools. Good luck to all!
 
Congrats, goodnamestaken! I was going to apply to NUIG, but I didn't realize it was part of ABP, and sending in a separate application and figuring out how much 75 euro was seemed like too much work, especially when I'd prefer to go to UCD or RCSI anyway.

If TCD is going to send something next week, maybe UCD will as well. :luck: This birthday was almost terrible. Dinner saved it, since my sick-as-a-dog girlfriend took one for the team and came out with my family and me.

Yes, Congrats! It must be nice to be able to take a breath of fresh air after that acceptance!!! Oh, I am getting my hopes up now that we are officially speculating that this week could be the week of notification.
I have been so down lately; I wish that something positive would turn up this week. :luck: :luck: to the rest of us.
 
Me too! I had to leave the hospital today because I was feeling sick, but I think some of it might have to do with being so stressed out about this whole thing. :scared: I hope something good happens this week. :luck:

Ugh. Now, apparently, they are saying that due to the high volume of applications this year, we shouldn't expect anything from TCD or UCD until at least mid-April. This is getting ridiculous. They've had my application since friggin' August. 😡
 
Seriously, this is rough. I was hoping for the end of the month 🙁
 
I rang TCD up and the guy at the admissions told me that they're expecting to give decisions out in 1-2 weeks! Then again, i'm not applying through the Atlantic Bridge program.. so my circumstances could be diffferent to most of yours..
 
Way to build us up to let us down there, zeyad. 🙄 Seriously, though, this is becoming a very aggrevating process. They've pushed the expected time of notification back like 3 or 4 times now.
 
Let me read into this a bit more than necessary. Remember, the ABP had said that decisions should be made by the end of the month. Hence, first week or two of April sounds about right by the time everything is mailed out from Ireland. At least acceptances should be mailed out from Ireland.....😕
 
Hmm...I was under the impression that we'd have decisions by the end of the month. Perhaps I misunderstood what you said, and in that case, the first week or two of April does sound right. Well, now I'm just aggrevated at myself for getting all excited. :laugh:
 
Did you hear from ABP that those who haven't taken the MCAT will not be notified until May, or is that speculation? just wondering. I was under the impression we would probably be notified in the next couple weeks along with everyone else but I could be confused.

Does he mean those who haven't taken the MCAT yet and are applying for the 5- or 4-year programs? Or does that include the 6-year too, even though it isn't required for that?
 
Ack I just wish they'd send out the responses already. It's been such a long time.

I PMed gmacpac with the same question and he said he only meant those applicants who are writing the MCAT in April will be notified in May and hence be eligible for the second round of RCSI interviews. I think it was only in regards to UCC/RCSI. (I hope i got all that right gmacpac 🙂)

Those applying to TCD/UCD GEPs should be notified at the same time as everyone else, i believe.
 
Sorry everyone if I have cause this mass confusion on this board.

So I had e-mailed ABP about status check on my RCSI/UCC application and in responce they told me that I will hear about a decision after they get my April MCAT score, which naturally will be in May. The e-mail also stated that since I have not been rejected, I am still in the applicant pool; which is not exactly a bad thing.


So from what I extracted from ABP's follow-up was that the students taking MCAT in April will be notified only after the reciept of their scores (obviously), therefore all april MCATers will probably hear in May/June.

I dont know anything about TCD/UCD status because I simply did not ask.

I hope I cleared up any misconception that resulted from my previous posts.
 
In reference to the above statement--I guess this means that those of us who have not heard from the schools--UCD, UCC and Trinity---are still in the applicant pool.

I've heard that about nursing. However, most nurses that I have been around who already have like 10 years+ critical care under their belt are going to grad. school for the CRNA degree.
I don't think anyone can really put their finger on what medical schools are thinking....:laugh:

I met an R.N. during one of my interviews, she worked in OB/GYN for 6 years and was basically tired of it...just didn't want to pursue an alternate nursing career as a nurse practioner, CRNA or the like. So true, all these diverse applicants...no one really fits into the '21 year biology major pre-med' stereotype anymore, I guess!:laugh:

Just thought my experience from last year might be helpful. I had my interview for the RCSI GEP program at the start of February. I received my acceptance to RCSI about two weeks later, and an acceptance from UCD the day after. I did pay for the courrier service.
 
Just so you guys know, I applied in Sept or October when I applied and wrote the MCAT in April. Hadn't heard anything from any of the schools before that accept for a rejection from Trinity in Feb. Sent my scores in and got acceptanced to all the schools in June or July (early July I think). Even RCSI -I think they had an extra spot from someone droping out late or something and were scrambling to fill it because I didn't have an interview... Decided to go to UCC. So if you still have to write the MCAT, be patient!

Also, remember that there's 3 Dublin schools as well so this board is almost all Dublin students. Dublin schools are all great but don't just believe the hype cause you hear the most about them on this board. Check out UCC for yourself and consider it. There's a lot of good things about going to UCC. I think people do themselves a dis-service sometimes but automatically picking Dublin over Cork just because it's a bigger city.
 
So, it took very little time for the schools to review your app. after your April scores were released---considering those took about 2 months to get back (written).

This year is drastically longer in wait..........it's almost April and some of us submitted last fall, have everything in and no response from any of the schools.
UCC does seem like a very nice school---Cork being a wonderful small city, which seems quite ideal for studying.

Just waiting.....is torture. Has anyone had the nerve to recently contact the ABP? Just wondering if anything has changed.
 
My friend contacted UCD directly, and they said that they would have decisions out in no more than 2 weeks. :scared:
 
sorry to be annoying, but decisions out--meaning the decisions will be mailed out within 2 weeks or the decisions themselves will be made in two weeks?

From what he told me, it means we'll have them within 2 weeks. And, it's about time--like you, I've had my application in since August. Whether I get accepted or rejected, I'll just be happy to finally have an answer.
