I'm keeping my mind open to different possibilities; however, I don't think I want to do surgery. I have leaned towards radiology for awhile, but now thinking I might not like the little patient contact I get. I've also thought about family practice, EM, or cardiology.. but we'll see 🙂

I was also told to keep my mind open to all options...but I know ortho is definetly out of the question ...lol

I would like to do EM....why? because it has shifts..and you're never on call....plus you're not tied down to a certain geographical area due to a patient base...once the pt is admitted or released from ER...it is not your concern

the only downside to EM is that sometimes, we as future physicians, would like to know the long term health report of our patients...this is not possible with EM..as you don't "follow up" with your patients

Hang in there bivvie! 👍 I know how frustrating this is! I had to wait extra days too because there were some VIPs visiting the school the week after my interview and Dr. Stowers was tied up. It will come soon enough

i waited over two weeks for my call bc of the thanksgiving break. the wait is well worth it.

and yes..I actually know someone, whom the president called...kind of exiciting!!! unfortunately, it was from a president, who I very much dislike

Mine just said unknown caller. I also thought I knew what was going on.

And to those waiting, I feel your pain. I was told I would hear on a Tuesday and didn't get the call til Wednesday. I didn't put my phone down for 2 days. I'd sit in meetings at work and look at my phone every 5 min just to be sure I didn't miss the vibrations, even though it was in my hand. 😳 Makes it hard to do work or concentrate on anything, but it's all worth it. Good luck everyone! 😀

At least you didnt call that morning to make sure they got your LORs, put down the phone to go watch scrubs, and come back an hour and a half later to a message from Dr. Stowers. I cant believe I freakin missed the call, I called back to make sure I got the right message. Then smiled for the next week straight 🙂.

Well, it looks like I won't be moving into DCOM student housing after all. I'm a little peeved about the increase in the $100 increase in rent from last year and the iron clad lease (with no exceptions) that we will be locked into for a whole year AND the $500 deposit! 🙁

I've got my eye on some apartments that are being built down the hill from DCOM and I put down a deposit for one of them. I've been talking with Cassrae about being roommates, so that would be cool if some other SDN'ers rented out the other two apartments.

Labrador26 posted information a couple of pages back (post # 2104) about the new apartments. So, if any of you are looking for housing you should check out the other two available apartments! You can PM me for more info.

My interview was today and I am home after an 11 hour drive. Thank you to everyone that was there. I fell in love with DCOM and hope to be attending in August. P.S. sheruns and khurram- you both rock!!!!

I have good feelings about this school and you guys. DCOM is seriously one of the most advanced technological buildings I've ever seen. I was genuinely impressed at the quality of the students (Piratesse, Nascardoc, Marthea and that tall dark haired guy all were so nice LOL), the quality of the teachers, the wonderful administrative people including Pat, Jeanette, and Bob the Driver, the amazing topographical variance/scenery! I'm breathless, excited, and crossing all fingers and toes, chanting madly, and doing the fire dance until I hear. Wow what an incredible place. AMAZING!!!

I called the owners today, and there is only one left. I told her I would be up there tomorrow to give her a deposit check like you sent. They are still building, but I'll see if I can take a few pictures while I'm up there. Its right next to their house, so no late night glow stick rave parties, but at least things would be fixed quickly if need be. It seems nice enough.... Its only for two years or so, and I've definitely lived in worse while in undergrad... How did they refund your housing deposit at DCOM?



And for the students living up around Harrogate now, how are your utility bills each month? Like water, power, cable, etc. Who is the cable provider up there? Comcast or charter?

Cool! That's awesome that we'll be neighbors! Definitely try and take some pics! I think the apartments will be nice, I mean they're brand new! I emailed Pat Peace and told her I wouldn't be living in university housing, but she hasn't emailed me back yet about refunding my $200 deposit.

I don't know if it's any different in Harrogate, but in Middlesboro, with a 2 bdrm apartment and a roommate, for trash, gas, electric, water and cable, we're probably about $330-$350 a month total right now. I'm sure that'll go down when it get's a bit warmer and we don't need to use our gas heater as much.

Well, the one left is the one I'm going to probably give a deposit for tomorrow. But I am planning on living alone, unless someone wants to be my roomie. There will be rules though..... 😉. I'm sure there will be other places, and it sounds like two spots just opened up in the student housing from me and prions.

Hmmm... That doesnt sound too bad. I was looking at the utility district in Harrogate and I think water/sewer will be around 30 or so a month, and power will be around 100 or so, I guess it just depends on how much the heat/air is used. Hopefully we wont have gas stuff, its awful expensive, although, gas stoves for cooking are awesome. Probably basic cable, maybe around 40-50 a month. Still not bad though...

I really dont think so. We are looking at apartments around the area. And I know of at least two openings when prions and I leave. I seriously doubt there will be a crunch for the student housing. That being said, I would send it in as soon as you can just to be sure.

We are paying $17/month for water with a $40 connection fee and $120 for electric with a deposit of twice the average monthly rent (unless you get a letter of credit from your previous utility provider showing no late payments for the last 12 months AND your application has to be notarized unless you go there in person) for our house on Forge Ridge Road in Harrogate. We don't have gas and Charter doesn't service our area, so we have to go with AT&T (DSL and Direct TV) unfortunately.

i'm a very impatient person. i can't even handle waiting 45 minutes for pizza...imagine how hard it is for me to wait 2 weeks when it's my future in question!!

i was put on the wait list in 03/07...

and then in 07/07, i get a call saying im in the top 3 and I had the possibility of still being accepted up until the first day of orientation!! and I still didn't get in! However, i was lucky enough to be automatically accepted for class of 2012........so that means another year of waiting.....so i've been waiting since 07/07 for class to start on 07/08

i was put on the wait list in 03/07...

and then in 07/07, i get a call saying im in the top 3 and I had the possibility of still being accepted up until the first day of orientation!! and I still didn't get in! However, i was lucky enough to be automatically accepted for class of 2012........so that means another year of waiting.....so i've been waiting since 07/07 for class to start on 07/08

well at least it ended up going well!!! i hope my story also has a happy ending!! this is already my 2nd year of trying to get into med school (only applied to local(ish) MD schools last year and I'm glad i didnt get in now that i realize i'd rather go the DO route)

A tin roof!!!! How freaking sweet!! I love when it rains and I'm under a tin roof! My sister and her husband just built a house and not only do they have a wrap around porch with more square footage than the house, they have a red tin roof. I'm starting to get excited again! Woo hoo... Now if I could just get all the silly physical and immuno shots taken care of, I'll be set. 😀

I'm glad you asked about the refund because I haven't heard anything from Pat, so thanks for filling me in on that, roommie. 🙂
