Just an update for those on the waitlist and those about to interview, based on my discussion with Paul Carney on Friday

a) the class is 2/3 full they will fill the rest of the class with people they are interviewing between now and the end of April

b) Once the class is full they will stop interviewing

c) The people that are waitlisted WILL NOT be used to fill any of the remaining 1/3 spots. They will only be used to fill spots of people that drop out after the class is full----Thus waitlisters will not be hearing anything until May at the earliest

Hey everyone. Ok heres the deal, I interviewed back in october, was accepted, and will be attending. I have frequented this forum a number of times just to see what the word on the street was. ( I believe I'm refered to as a lurker...so sorry about that if that is considered a disrespectful approach to the student doctor network. I'm trying to change.) Any who, just wanted to write and say hello. Also I have some housing information that might be helpful to folks if anyone is having trouble finding a place to stay. I know my wife and I had some difficulty finding somewhere nice that was relatively close.

However, what we did find were some apartments being built in Cumberland Gap, TN (they should be done in the next month or two). They consist of two bedrooms, two full baths, a living room, kitchen, small breakfast area, WD hook-up, and just down the hill from DCOM's student housing. There are only 4 units and my wife and I have already reserved one. I just thought I would let everyone on here in on this so that maybe we could create a little DCOM community down in Cumberland Gap.

Hi everyone! This is my first post. I also sill be interviewing on Tues and am really really really excited. I am leaving in the morning to embark on an 11 hour drive from Louisiana. I will be staying at the Holiday Inn. I am really nervous but have a good feeling. I think that I actually am posting this to become more calm in the process of becoming more familiar. Our cabin was in south shore really close to heavenly, but we went to Kirkwood. I tried snowboarding for the first time and loved it, but man is it a workout! I totally want to join the snow bunnies crew at DCOM and plan skiing trips with you guys! It's going to be so much fun! 👍

awesome..im sure we'll have a great time next year skiing/boarding next year!

so...how did it go for your first time? I was sooo sore my first time boarding..i literally fell on the ground as I tried to get out of bed because I couldn't hold my self up next morning...i also realized that there are lot more muscles in my butt than i first realized

However, I guess I am accustomed to skiing, and it's hard to change, especially when your muscle memory is dedicated to skiing.

We will definitely have to meet eventually. I'm not sure about conferences but I will definitely keep an eye out. It's not likely I will go to my sister's wedding but if you, Laura and sherruns (etc.) were out there already it would provide some extra motivation. Guess you guys will just have to roadtrip out to AZ to see me. 😉

This is an amazing, awesome school and I am so honored to be in this process. I felt like buying stargazer lilies for everyone and handing them out to all the AdCom people. Could just see the faces lighting up, but decided that I'd better just play it cool. No tickertape or confetti throwing. I'm holding back.

Whew, though, What an incredible ride, that's all I can say! On to Tennessee Tomorrow!

I mostly see out of control skiers at small hills, since schussing is much more rampant, it is also where beginners usually lurk...when going to out west, i see less and less of the out of control skiers...that is if you stay on the blacks ....once you start going towards blues and greens...you better watch your back!

thanks so much syncope82!!! You are so right. Almost every single broken back (except one at Mammoth from a snowboarding championship) was on a blue cruiser or blue mogul run.

we always ask and it's weird there's so many who go out of control on that particular level of difficulty.

I saw my first Tile B-3 Unstable Open Book Pelvic Fracture this past weekend -- completely gnarly. guy lucky to be alive.

Just wanted to throw this out.....as the housing crisis increases in this area for places to live, rent, buy...there isnt all that much now to choose from. We are going to be selling our house, which is located 16 miles from school, just into the Virginia border. It is just a tad small for me, my wife and 3 kids. We need something a bit bigger. Its nice to be away a bit, from the hustle and bustle of the Harrogate metropolis. The name of the town in Rose Hill, VA. We live across the street from the local elementary school. Its a nice little place. I am a remodel contractor, before med school, and remodeled the kitchen, and living room. It is 3 beds, 1 bath, 1100 sqft. rambler, on just under 1/2 acres. If anyone is interested, let me know. I can email pics. Not sure what we will be asking for the house, but i assure you, will be cheaper than most of you have ever seen in realestate. May be close to the $60,000-$70,000 range. Let me know if anyone might be interested.

Would be perfect for roomates...that way, you all can car pool too, and rent would be ridiculous cheap......way cheaper than the student apartments.....

So I interviewed on 2/29...and I honestly didn't think I'd make it to this week to hear whether I was accepted or not...and now I don't know if I'll make it to tomorrow to potentially hear. Well I've officially withdrawn my acceptance to LMU-DCOM. Thanks to everyone who went to the pizza night and answered any questions that I had. DCOM does have some really nice facilities but the location and housing were some of my concerns. Anyways, at least this opens up one more spot for someone who truly wants to goto DCOM. So it's all good.

Did you have any luck with the houses I sent you? I would recommend trying to set up some appointments to see houses/apartments ahead of time, because most of them have current tenants and will need notice to be out of the way for a showing. I had the best luck contacting some realtors and asking if they deal with rentals. Most of them don't officially handle rentals, but have "friends that do" and can set you up. I found 4 rentals this way. There aren't a lot of "For Rent" signs around town, so they would be hard to find on your own.

One Saturday should be plenty of time to check things out if you make arrangements ahead of time. We were done in 4 hours 🙂

Malisa if I was you I would start calling just to get your name out there, make friends and let them know you are in the market even if you are not ready to act right now. This will be much better than just popping up out of the blue

I'm thinking IM with a subspecialty in cardio or Peds with a subspecialty in neonatology. Who knows though, I could end up doing anything. I also like EM and OB/GYN. As of now, definitely not interested in surgery, but I'll try and keep an open mind. 🙂

I, too, am going for (IM) Peds and possibly neonatology 👍 It will depend on whether I decide I want an actual life outside of my job or not 😛

I'd say either EM or surgery right now. Ortho seems cool (but everyone likes ortho), but I haven't been around a bunch of surgeries, so I don't know for sure. I never thought I would really think about surg, but I love anatomy, so it fits. I am going to try to get some surg experience over the next few months. Interventional rads is cool too, but we'll see.
