thanks for this LauraDO! i still hold out hope for ya! vibes and vibes and vibes to ya.Just an update for those on the waitlist and those about to interview, based on my discussion with Paul Carney on Friday
a) the class is 2/3 full they will fill the rest of the class with people they are interviewing between now and the end of April
b) Once the class is full they will stop interviewing
c) The people that are waitlisted WILL NOT be used to fill any of the remaining 1/3 spots. They will only be used to fill spots of people that drop out after the class is full----Thus waitlisters will not be hearing anything until May at the earliest
Hey everyone. Ok heres the deal, I interviewed back in october, was accepted, and will be attending. I have frequented this forum a number of times just to see what the word on the street was. ( I believe I'm refered to as a lurker...so sorry about that if that is considered a disrespectful approach to the student doctor network. I'm trying to change.) Any who, just wanted to write and say hello. Also I have some housing information that might be helpful to folks if anyone is having trouble finding a place to stay. I know my wife and I had some difficulty finding somewhere nice that was relatively close.
However, what we did find were some apartments being built in Cumberland Gap, TN (they should be done in the next month or two). They consist of two bedrooms, two full baths, a living room, kitchen, small breakfast area, WD hook-up, and just down the hill from DCOM's student housing. There are only 4 units and my wife and I have already reserved one. I just thought I would let everyone on here in on this so that maybe we could create a little DCOM community down in Cumberland Gap.
Let me know if anyone has any questions and shoot me an email ([email protected]) if you would like more information or the number to call the owner.
Good see you there! Are you really Pre-Dental?sooooo...ive been stalking the dcom posts for quite a long time now...and have now decided to come out and speak since I have my interview THIS TUESDAY!!!!!😀😀😀😀😀
anyone going to oasis this monday night???
hey everyone, I am about to send off my deposit check and was wondering if it had to be a cashier's check or if it could just be a personal check.

So I just got back from a weekend in Tahoe (my *ss is sooo sore 🙁), but I had lots of fun!
Sheruns, congrats on the interview!!!!👍
Laura, I think about you being the first one off the waitlist in May every day. 😉😍
Also, good luck to all the newbies here who are interviewing soon.![]()
wow..awesome! where in tahoe? mammoth? heavenly?
let me guess....you snowboard? hence...the sore butt
Our cabin was in south shore really close to heavenly, but we went to Kirkwood. I tried snowboarding for the first time and loved it, but man is it a workout! I totally want to join the snow bunnies crew at DCOM and plan skiing trips with you guys! It's going to be so much fun! 👍

When are you guys all moving down/up/over/across to TN?
Hey! Sounds like you had an awesome fun time! Glad you're back. 😀
I'm leaving San Diego on July 23rd and we should get to Tennessee on July 26th! It's going to be a heck of a roadtrip! 😱
Well in that case my sister is going to have to pay for me to fly out to Knoxville in July. She's getting married in Pigeon Forge on July 3 and really wants me to go but that's expensive and we have other things to pay for. I just wasn't sure how many of you awesome people would have already moved there for me to meet in real life. Oh well. Guess she's going to have to throw some serious incentives in now! 😱
Hey!! You should swing through Texas on your way through!! 😉
EEL08, it looks like you're just going to have to make your sister move the wedding to the end of July . . . it's the only solution. 😉
It would be awesome to meet you, that's too bad. 🙁 Is there some sort of DO med student conference we will all go to next year? Maybe a SOMA conference? That would be cool!
We will definitely have to meet eventually. I'm not sure about conferences but I will definitely keep an eye out. It's not likely I will go to my sister's wedding but if you, Laura and sherruns (etc.) were out there already it would provide some extra motivation. Guess you guys will just have to roadtrip out to AZ to see me. 😉
Not after a night in prisonTake care and sore butts are good.
Not after a night in prison
THANKS YOU GUYS FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT FOR TUESDAY!!!
Oh, and for the skiers, I'm on trauma call to the regional trauma center in Reno, and so far, in the past six weeks, I've cast over 38 broken backs in the ER, coming from CareFlight, in their patient rooms, in the ICU, everywhere. Snowboarders from Mammoth, Heavenly, a beautiful telemarking Englishman at Squaw Valley who was hit by an out of control skier.....i see them all...
Glad none of them were you guys. You'd be looking up at me as I tell you "I'm here for your full body casting"....then the fun begins....;-)
Take care and sore butts are good. Means hard work and only padded falls...no T6 compression fractures or L3 bursts.
sherruns
thanks so much syncope82!!! You are so right. Almost every single broken back (except one at Mammoth from a snowboarding championship) was on a blue cruiser or blue mogul run.
good luck...and don't be skeered!
I mostly see out of control skiers at small hills, since schussing is much more rampant, it is also where beginners usually lurk...when going to out west, i see less and less of the out of control skiers...that is if you stay on the blacks ....once you start going towards blues and greens...you better watch your back!
THANKS YOU GUYS FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT FOR TUESDAY!!!
I thank EEL08 for assuming by the post here that I'm ALREADY THERE!!!

The thread isn't as active today. I guess everyone is busy.
Does anyone that has already looked at houses and apartments know if I will be able to get anything done if I go up there on a saturday? I'm going to call places and what not to ask but just thought I'd ask yall first. My friend can go up with me on the weekend but it's really hard to take more time off during the weekdays. My fiance already doesn't want to take off anymore time since we are taking off a ton for the wedding. I hope I can get something figured out soon so I can mark one thing off my worry list.
Thanks! I haven't called any of the places you gave me yet. I'm not going until April so I don't know if I should call this early. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to start calling and asking around.
probably has been asked already....but has anyone that interviewed on 2/29/08 gotten a call from Dr. Stowers, either today or this past friday that they were accepted??????
Definitely busy...maybe we need a good topic. The thread isn't as active today. I guess everyone is busy.
look at post #2135, I think someone else hasn't heard anything back either

How about what specialty is everyone pursuing?
I am thinking Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
I'm thinking IM with a subspecialty in cardio or Peds with a subspecialty in neonatology. Who knows though, I could end up doing anything. I also like EM and OB/GYN. As of now, definitely not interested in surgery, but I'll try and keep an open mind. 🙂
I'd say either EM or surgery right now. Ortho seems cool (but everyone likes ortho), but I haven't been around a bunch of surgeries, so I don't know for sure. I never thought I would really think about surg, but I love anatomy, so it fits. I am going to try to get some surg experience over the next few months. Interventional rads is cool too, but we'll see.
speak for yourself! ortho.....no way! 😉
neonatology....peds hem-onc....or general peds. 😎
