so when is everyone moving? i guess we can move into the apartments the first part of july. i was gonna wait until the middle of the month.

Well since we've been paying rent for a few weeks now in order to reserve a house, I want to move down as soon as possible after the wedding in May. My fiance is still waiting to hear about his job proposal to work remotely from home after we move, so it may end up being June if he has to find a different job.

New to the discussion board and I must say getting some great information!

My hubby has applied to LMU-DCOM and got a call yesterday for an interview on 4/11. He is sooooo excited! I've been reading some of the information regarding the interview process, etc.

I plan on coming with and checking out the school campus up close. We're both originally from Morristown which isn't too far from there so I've driven by many times but have never seen the campus up close.

FYI - he too is an older student which I think I read that there are some others that are too.

So...is anyone down for a skiing trip to denver? Looks like all of my friends are out of vacation time and I still want to ski more! and it looks like the ski season will last long into may this year due to the tons of snow!

Airline tickets are extremely cheap at $138 round trip including taxes from chicago to denver.....rental cars are roughly ~$15/day and lodging and lift tickets are extremely cheap....anyone in?

It would come out to roughly $500 per person including everything (airlines, car rental, lodging, lift tix, eating) for a 4 day trip

That looks beautiful. I would love to go to Colorado someday. I've never been skiing either. My husband and I are saving for a first quarter break trip to Hawaii. 😀

yea it looks awesome..plus beaver creek is very beautiful......and plus it's a resort..much nicer!!

skiing is the best in april IMO...less people and it is cheaper...and at 10,000ft elevation...there is plenty of snow..especially this year

Hey, John. Welcome to the DCOM thread!! For housing... its kind of slim right now. There are lots of people that are living in the student housing, some in Middlesboro, some are married and have houses around campus and the few surrounding towns. Check out the facebook group link in my signature, there is a little more information
there, but I would suggest calling DCOM, and see if they have any leads on places to live. I know they are building some new apartments right next to the DCOM student ones, but they arent DCOM housing, they are private owners. You can also call a realtor in the area and see if they can help you out any. I know its hard because there arent many options yet since the school is so new, but the options are there for sure, you just have to look a little. to you!!

Hoss - Id love to go tomorrow to Calhouns... but I think I'm gonna be out of town. Hopefully next week will be less hectic for me, and we can go then. Monday nights are my favorite because they have 1/2 price burgers and the beers are half price until 10. Burger and 2 beers = $8.70something. Its a great world.

Cassrae and LauraDO - I was a Fiji at Tn Tech. Knew a bunch of ADPis, but we didnt have AX.

Cassrae and Prions - I'm so pumped about moving in and having cool neighbors finally, I cant wait until we are all in 😀. Do you guys have any idea if she is going to make us pay rent for June or are we gonna start it in July?

We don't have Fiji's at Vandy, but one of my sorority sisters dated one from U. Chicago for a long time. And I really don't know about rent, when I asked Kristen she said the lady never said anything to her about it. But yes I'm really excited to move in, and to have awesome neighbors of course. 🙂

Looking for housing is no fun and extremely hard. I just called a guy that has a house for rent and he's very strictly no pets allowed inside. He even made the comment that he had "people houses" umm excuse me but people do have pets. Oh well I'm just really frustrated.

I have a question for the people buying houses. What do you plan to do with the house after two years? Are you going to try to stay in Harrogate for clinicals? or are you going to sell the house? Houses are so very cheap in the area but I just don't know how to go about buying a house for such a short amount of time.

I spoke with her on Monday and asked her if she was planning on sending me a lease in the mail or something. Her reply was "oooh well I have a couple of papers for y'all to sign, but you can do that when you get here and them have them notarized at the post office". I guess that will be our "lease"? I told her most of us were planning on moving out there in July and she just said, "Just let me know when y'all are coming out here"! She seems pretty chill about the whole thing . . . I'm going to just put my good faith in her, as she's put in me. 😉

Rose, maybe you can call her in a couple of weeks and see if she gives you the same answer? Also, has she cashed your deposit check?

I think they're still available. They changed the rental agreement and I know quite a few people who requested their deposits back after that (including myself).

Now the rent for a studio is $3500 per semester ($636 a month) and the 2 bedroom is $10,040 per semester ($912 a month). The iron clad lease is from July 1st 2008 - June 30th 2009 with NO EXCEPTIONS!! You can't break the lease without having to pay the rest of the year's rent plus forfeit your $500 deposit.

You have to send in the initial $200 deposit to reserve your spot (which you should do now if you are interested) and then pay an additional $300 of the deposit when you move in.

No, that's not a dumb question, no worries! 😉

I think what got most people was loosing the option to move out second semester if you really wanted to. That's why they lost my $200. they are pretty desperate to fill the housing because they are losing a ton of money on it. I moved out at semester (so I am partially directly at fault for you guys having such a horrible housing situation in regard to the DCOM apartments) and I am glad I did. The duplex I moved into is much better/cheaper. The sinks in the apartments are tiny, the "kitchen" in general sucks, and the bed is huge compared to the rest of the room. The desk is great, the fire alarms/lack of hot water/etc. are not. Buyer beware - check out your other options, they will have PLENTY of rooms in July. I am sure some of these problems will get taken care of before next year...but I only have experience to go on here. Best of luck to everyone and congratulations to the 2012'ers. See you in the fall - go have fun now, you dont know how badly you will want spring break a year from now.

Yeah, I agree with you about the mid semester thing... I really didnt want to be locked into living there for the entire year if I didnt want to. Yeah, the increased rent is for the DCOM housing. Someone is building new apartments right next to the DCOM ones, but they are from private owners and will most likely be two bedroom two bath deals. Best of luck finding somewhere to live!

I think (I dont know for sure) that they are gonna interview until the end of April-ish. But being this late in the season they can really have their pick as to who they invite, so its gonna be tough to get an interview. to you though!

I'll probably be on the waitlist with you. I'll also be interviewing at AZCOM, but my interview is on the 12th of May. (right after my finals) Too bad, I'd have liked to meet you.

A friend of mine at LECOM-PA said that AZCOM campus is awesome. And I decided to make my summer trip out of it, since I may not be able to do much travelling while I'm in med school. After my interview I'll see the Grand Canyon. Then I'll team up with my folks and go to San Diego.

Just sent all the paperwork from the matriculation packet in today (blood titers, physical, drugtest etc.). I sent in my transcripts a couple of weeks ago. I think we technically have until June or July though, right?
