Same here. I filled out my FASFA in January also. They just haven't sent the award letters out yet. 👍
 
DCOM will send you guys something when filling out loans and such becomes available. They have to put together their preferred lenders list, etc. Don't worry, you aren't missing anything. Money is something we soon-to-be OMS-II's need too (that has a nice ring to it :laugh:). I'm flat out broke....I've resorted to my sugar mama now.....God love my wife!!! :laugh: :biglove:

Now we just need Monday to pass and get that exam over with. So tired of studying 😴 When over, that means we are another day closer to the surgery club's golf outing....WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Fafsa...at least you filed it already - we just finished our taxes. Guess I should get on that.
 
thanks, i was a bit confused and the rents were yelling at me for being incompetent (they thought i had lost the loan package)....whats new. hahaha, surgery club sounds like fun. im gonna look into that once med school actually starts...until then, i'll be playing operation the game. ahha

Congrats on the acceptance!!!!!!! But there is a loophole unfortunately that both Paul Carney and Dr. Stowers told us on Friday (I know, you don't want to here it, but thats what happens when its late in the application cycle).......

.....its only official when you let me drive your vette!!! :meanie: The same goes for anyone else with a sweet car like that!!!

Sorry if I gave you a heart attack.....but I had to go there. But its true 😉
 
The academic calendar that I received doesnt say anything about the white coat ceremony, are we not going to have one? I think first year DCOM students had one last year. Does anybody know if we're going to have one and when its going to be?

I thought I read somewhere your White Coat would be October 18th. I am in no way sure of this so it wouldn't hurt to call the school and confirm. Also as I posted earlier for those of you accepted and planning on attending here...make your room reservations for family and friends now. I tried in July to reserve a room for our White Coat ceremony weekend and all hotels were booked and never had an opening.

Orientation will be a total of 3 days. There are a lot of things, such as professor introductions, advisor groups given and have a meeting with them, insurance discussion, finan aid, IDs, paper work, computer stuff, etc. You'll start at 8:30am and DO NOT BE LATE. If your late, and don't call somebody (i.e. put a number in your phone so you can call if something happens) they assume you are not coming and they give your seat to the next person on the waitlist. Its pretty fun and there is no studying or anything, so you get to hang out quite a bit, but your first lecture will be on Friday afternoon, most likely anatomy with Dr. Cross (orientation started on wednesday for us).

Yeah, I think eveything went fine. Thanks for the well wishes. Pharmacolgy contunes to be rough, eventhough I study hard for it, as do others. So, I will just have to adjust how I approach pharm and prepare differently for it. Other than that, everything else went fine. Looking forward to losing brain cells playing guitar hero and rock band (which I have not played before), and then doing the same tomorrow night, but at school. We hook up different systems to the plasmas in the OPP lab....one guy is thinking of bringing his Nintendo, which would freaking rock b/c he has Mike Tyson's Punchout.

Ha, well unfortunately we sold that car - it was only your basic convertible. We bought a black Corvette Z06 instead. Running Nashville Superspeedway in May and Barber Motorsports Park in June. Harrogate will put us closer top VIR and Road Atlanta!! You can drive if you know how to handle a stick! 🙂
 
Someone on our class's facebook group posted that we were getting the Lenova tablets.. don't know how accurate this information is, but I'm sure Syncope will be happy.

Nope....nothing is official yet. They are still testing other models, but no decision has been made as of this afternoon when MJB and I talked to the head IT guy. Yes, they are very impressed with the Lenovo and it is a front-runner, but they are still waiting for another tablet or two from different companies to compare.
 
We had a Lenovo to use for the group test today. Its soo light! We played around with it some... seems really nice. I'll def trade my Gateway in for one... Group 15 had an HP in their room... Shasta was in that group...

ND, I can't wait to play rock band tonight!!! Are you entering the tournament tomorrow?

Thats nice you guys got to mess around with the lenovo bit. The HP will not be happening according to IT.

Yeah, I plan on entering the GH tournament on the Hard difficulty. I know I won't win, but it will still be fun.

I thinking about doing it on medium! .. that's about as difficult as I can handle, haha.

I am sure my financial analysis of cost savings owning Lenovo's helped out!! kudos to my boss for even letting me take that info out of the company

FWIW I got an email from Mr. Carney yesterday:


Said they had reviewed my file (I interviewed 03/14) and due to a cancellation of yesterday's meeting w/ Dr. Stowers, they plan on meeting today (tues).

Yeah I emailed him a casual email fri just to see how things were going. He wrote me back monday.
 
I also talked to Mr. Carney this morning and my file is in the meeting this afternoon as well. I interviewed 3/25 so I assume anyone that interviewed before that should hear something soon.

Anyone know how long (on average) after the Carney meeting it usually takes for Dr. Stowers to make calls?

I'm not sure they're still calling those accepted. My letter arrived 5 days after the meeting. Good luck!
 
I got a call the same day, perhaps the next day, not exactly sure.

Some guys never got a phone call, it just depends on how busy he is.

Nope but it happens. The base for my statement is that no one on here has said they've had a call in a month and that those who are close to the adcom haven't said anything about calls.

I was accepted quite a while back (I think I was in the 3rd interview group), so it was well before the current "busy-season" the adcoms are dealing with...but I never got a call, just a letter saying that I was accepted (I got my letter the same day most people got their call, but I live in Knoxville).

I filled out my fafsa and submitted to DCOM around ~1 mo agoand have not heard anything yet
 
Everyone:

I would like to welcome those accepted to the Class of 2012. Those of you on the waitlist, I can relate to your frustration. I was waitlisted from February until May. Don't give up and I hope to meet you all in the fall.

thats weird....I remember I got a phone call from Dr. Stowers the following Friday after my interview....the funny this is that I had no idea until a few days later b/c my voicemail was acting up. good luck!
 
Hey y'all. I posted this on the class thread, but thought I would add it on here too. I am looking for an in-home babysitter/nanny for my three children in our home in Speedwell. My two year old and three year old are home all day and my six year old gets off the bus at 3:30 in front of the house. Great pay and free meals are provided.
