Cool!!! I'm about 15 mins from Sac too, Roseville to be more exact. I went to UCD. Congrats on getting into DCOM!! I'm not too fond of that 2400 mile drive. I don't think my car can make it. As of right now, planning to sell that car and fly over there with just my clothes and whatever I can pack into my check-in luggage and will buy a new car there. Good thing the campus apartments are furnished 😀 ................How are you planning to move there?

Planning on leaving the 21st. Driving seems to be the cheapest way to go...I have never really driven past Reno so it should be an interesting trip! Long, but interesting! It was just way too expensive to try to ship a car and all my stuff and just fly out there...

At the apartments we are in the process of adding an exercise room, a lounge, sand volleyball court, and an outdoor picnic area with fire pits and grills. The rent will be $550.00/mth for the one room units and $700.00/mth for the two room units. Please keep in mind that the leases are for 12 months and start on July 1st.

Whoa!!! That's crazy! Small world indeed. I didn't even think anyone from Davis was going to DCOM let alone Roseville. I graduated from Woodcreek High School in 2002. I've been to RHS several times for track and tennis. When did u graduate from there? Are you still at Davis? Cool, looks like we'll be neighbors in TN 😀

So sorry that you weren't outright accepted, but it's cool not to be rejected. All these waitlist letters are getting me down. I just can't imagine approaching that mailbox today. You may still get in, right?? I know you're disappointed!🙁

I am not at Davis anymore...graduated in Dec 05... I live about 10 min from woodcreek! I have been to WHS too for swimming and cheerleading (way back in the day!). I wasnt expecting to hear of anyone else from Davis OR Roseville either!!! Are you still at UCD?

Yeah...I agree. I just visit the bookstore every now and then and see what they have. But the items they have are quality. The hoodies are awesome!!!

FYI - we were told at the interviews conducted April 11th that the committee wouldn't be meeting until May 1 with the intent to let us know by May 4th or 5th. So I'm just a little confused by the recent notice to cbtk18 and hearing that they were going to let others know by today or tomorrow???? Not that I mind 'cause I know how awful the waiting is!

The nice thing about DCOM is they don't outright reject anyone post interview, so technically everyone gets a chance on the waitlist.

Just out of curiosity, what is everyone's back-up plan if you aren't accepted to DCOM? Do you guys have other acceptances? Are you looking into post-bac programs or clinical work? Will you apply again next year? I really feel for you not having an answer yet, but I hope you hear something soon!

Ugh I've followed all leads on here and checked the newspaper and talked to realtors if they knew of anyone that was renting. This sucks.

Sorry to vent. But yeah if anyone has any more ideas please let me know. Like if you found some places that you didn't decide to take tell me I will so take your leftovers.

I sent thank you notes to my 2 interviewers and personally thanked the rest of the staff at the end of the interview day before I left.

The hubby feels like the interview went really well. Just a couple of questions/comments that were a little concerning but again overall he was pleased. We had a great time! It was great to meet you guys and all of you seemed geniuely interested in talking with us and answering all our questions. It think it really did help to calm the nerves. We were also very impressed with the school itself and the enthusiasm of the current students.

As far as a back-up plan, he will wait til next year to try and get into DCOM since that is his first pick since we are from the area. And so he will continue to work until next year if he doesn't get in this year.

Have you thought about purchasing a house? I know it a pain in the butt, but it may be the best option. Housing is very cheap and would be very equivilent to rent. Just another option to look at. Realtor.com is a great website to check out.

It's really not too bad honestly. Its just a lot of busy paperwork and all. As long as you have decent credit and can but at least something as a down payment, you should be ok. I can PM you an awesome realtor in the area if you want it.....she's excellent.

I was thinking of maybe coming 2-3 weeks early and enjoy my free time there in terms of backpacking, hiking, etc.

It gives me a reason to quit work earlier. If I just sat around at home (with parents) with no work, I would just feel useless. but, if I have an excuse, i feel less useless 😛

I've been working for the past 3-4 years, so quitting 2-3 weeks earlier is no biggie for me...I'm not even actually quitting, but putting myself on a leave of absense. This way I can come in and work random breaks for some quick $$
Fortunately, I have a good savings set up (living at home helps tremendously) ...but I know that will be depleted very quickly with costs running around ~$50k a year.

I will be utilizing the full 38.5k in federal funding, however, I'm gonna try not to take out any private loans

This is my advice for student loans.....take out everything you can and then see what you have, if anything, left over. It is much better to have too much then not enough. You can always adjust the following year. To me, this is the best approach b/c in the end, an extra few thousand dollars won't make that much of a difference anyway. Don't guess with money b/c it is an added stress you don't want.

What type of bike do you have?

I love living in east tn. We have a 40 min drive from where I work (and were I previously went to school, downtown Chattanooga) to where I live, which is a small town called Soddy-Daisy. Its actually two small towns that were merged, and all the old timers still claim to be from either Soddy, or from Daisy. Its really kind of funny...anyway, sorry for the tangent. About 25 min of the drive is on the highway, but the other 20 min is backroads and twisties. Its so great to get to ride like that every day during the summer months.

I think that you have to add DCOM to your FAFSA. The good news is that you can have your results sent to multiple schools, so if a spot opens up they already have your info and can get your package together more quickly.
