This is my number one choice as well. I am applying this year! Good luck everyone. I am definitely following up with this thread!

I was a pretty heavy lecture attender at first and fell off the wagon a little as the year progressed. This is the case for many, especially those like myself that stay up late to study and then sleep later because of that. I definitely recommend going to class as much as you possibly can stand first semester- this is your chance for your professors to start to learn who you are and if you're there, it's much easier. Once systems start too, you will have quite a bit of required lectures, so make it easier on yourself by attending as much as you can so it's not a huge burden to you when it's required. A and B group assignments will be sent out during orientation...the only guarantee you have is that your EPC group members will be in your section for sure. As said by someone else, average day you're in class 6-8 hours...you'll often have 2-3 hrs break in there if you're the late lab group. It's a great time to run home, eat lunch, workout, study etc...whatever you prefer. I often stayed on campus so I would focus and study.Could some of you current DCOM students tell us what a typical day at DCOM was like during your first year? For example, I know that there are usually lecture recordings..so did you actually go to all the lectures or prefer to take notes from the recordings later? Or would you recommend actually going to all the lectures? And I heard the anatomy lab is divided into A and B group with one earlier in the morning..how are the students divided into the groups?
I am starting at DCOM this fall and just wanted to know a bit more...Thanks!
Who is "we"? Are you in the class of 2014? Losing 20 in one year is a LOT. This is a very big deal. So, if you can please explain this a little further it'd be helpful to those of us who are about to choose whether or not to attend LMU-DCOM this year.
I won't lie...we "lost" quite a few people. A large number of those people are joining 2015- why? Medical issues, personal issues and a few with academic issues that need to retake a course to continue on. Many might view that as a weakness of the program, but it's not really. DCOM tries to give you a chance to recover yourself if someone in life didn't go very well for you. You want a school to do that because, well, it might happen to you! I can only think of a couple of people who just totally failed out. I guess I just don't find this concerning because I know how great our school is. Med school is what you make of it. You might be qualified to get in, but if you don't do it right while you're here, you will fail. Period.I can't speak for the current classes, but the Class of 2011 lost about 10 people after the first year. You will see your biggest loss during year one. Like I posted earlier, there are students in med school who don't take it seriously. All I can say is if you put in the work, you will be fine. Also, you will have 1 or 2 people have medical issues and/or social issues that require them to go back a year.
Make sure you follow the 2011-2012 thread since this one will fizzle out once orientation starts! Good luck! This is my number one choice as well. I am applying this year! Good luck everyone. I am definitely following up with this thread!![]()
So I'm very interested in LMU-DCOM, however I am married and I worry about my wife being able to get a job decently close. She has a bachelor's in management information systems (business programming) and I really don't want her to have to drive an hour to Knoxville everyday.
Thanks guys, I appreciate it.
