I'm hearing conflicting reports on whether or not LSU only interviews LA and contracting state residents. A couple people have told me that they only offer interviews to LA and contracting state residents, but their website is pretty vague, saying only "students with a 2.5 or lower GPA will not be granted interviews".

According to their .PDF which you can download at this link: http://aavmc.org/vmcas/college_requirement.htm

"Interviews are a required part of the process for Louisiana and contract applicants only."

Thanks for getting back to me! So, does that mean nonresidents wont even be offered interviews?

I haven't been in personal contact with LSU. I'm only going by that information in their document.

My suggestion is, if you REALLY want to be 100% absolutely sure, trying giving them a call or shooting them an email...

I'm not sure about this year, but I know that last year they did not interview nonresidents. I applied out of state and I just got a postcard with GPA and GRE (I think) for confirmation after fall grades went out. Then I recieved an acceptance some time in the spring. I do know that they notified in state people first with acceptances as well

Good Luck 🙂

Thanks for your reply. I almost wanted to interview there just for an excuse to go visit Baton Rouge! My first choice school is my state school, Ohio State, but my second choice is definitly LSU. I assume you go there and I was wondering how you like it. I'm sure that LSU-SVM gets many competitve applicants and I was wondering if you knew about any opportunities offered there that I could take advantge of if I did not get accepted this year. I'm talking about anything that would make me a stronger applicant in the future such as; a grad school degree or program, a tech/volunteer position with the school, an internship, or anything else you may know of. I did submit my application this fall and I do have the experience, recommendations, test scores, and GPA needed, but it seems so hard to get accepted and I'd like to have a plan B for next year. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated! Conrats on your acceptance and good luck with your future in veterinary medince!

It has been the trend in the past to only interview LA and Arkansas applicants, so I doubt they'll be doing it differently this year.

As far as improving your application... well, I've found that this year's class (my class) is very diverse; we have a large number of students with varying degrees and types of experience. So, I suppose that would be my advice to you- if you're GPA/GRE are up to par, then try varying your animal experience: research/large animal/exotic, etc. When I interviewed there, much of the focus was on the different types of animal experiences I'd had, and what I learned from them.

Good-luck with all your apps, and if you have any specific questions about LSU (since I don't believe Lynnkat is an LSU student- could be wrong, though 😉 ). Anyway, I'd be more than happy to answer them. ^_^
